The story discusses Carter being upset about not being on the Thursday pregame show.

That's pretty thin reasoning for someone to be fired midseason. I have no doubt at all that people that work on camera get miffed about assignments all the time, and some of them are just plain hard to work with (though I have no inside knowledge regarding which ones, other than having seen that video of Chris Berman being grouchy off the air).

There is more to this than what that article says, even if it's just Carter totally melting down and refusing to work. Probably more than that. Even when a network just decides not to use someone, they just idle them. Midseason firings are... not common.

Agreed.  Especially since the initial announcement was he was suspended pending an internal investigation.

You don't need to conduct an investigation to fire someone over a disagreement over assignments.  You do have to conduct an investigation however if incidents involving co-workers are alleged to have occurred.

Cris has a bit of a history you know.

Can Joey Galloway follow him out the door? I realize he is an ESPN employee and not FOX but he is absolutely terrible.

On that note, what is with all these OSU guys on TV. I can take Urban Meyer and Kirk Herbstreit because they appear to possess actual broadcasting talent but Cris Carter, Joey Galloway, Robert Smith, and Bobby Carpenter (I am sure I am forgetting someone) are just guys at best.

I'll second this. Spielman may not be the smoothest PBP guy, but that's why I like him. He tends to say what he thinks, and he's good at dissecting the play, and telling what the players did right or wrong. And while I hate the fact that he went to the Columbus Remedial School for Wayward Boys, I loved him as a Lion. He left it all on the field.

EDIT: Spielman is a color guy, not PBP. Thanks for the correction below.

I agree there are a lot of OSU guys, but there are more Michigan guys (and gals).

Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson (recently), Rich Eisen, Adam Schefter, Tracy Wolfson, Dana Jacobson, Jay Feely, Brian Griese.  Probably more that I'm forgetting (I'm not including the small BTN folks, though I think Michelle McMahon has chops and will be good).
