Bill Greene: Al Washington offered by OSU for LB coach
Now on the clock. Ohio State vs Michigan once again. Offer has been made from OSU to replace the fired LB coach Billy Davis. #TickTickTick pic.twitter.com/JTv8BoaTQr

This has gotten stupid!
January 7th, 2019 at 4:46 PM ^
Too bad nobody wants Pep Hamilton! I wonder why that might be?!
January 7th, 2019 at 6:03 PM ^
I guess all the people arguing to defend Pep Hamilton are in hiding right now, seeing that no one is going after him like these other coaches.
January 7th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
They're probably just waiting for OSU to score again.
January 7th, 2019 at 4:31 PM ^
Can they hire beloved former AD Dave Brandon while they’re at it
January 7th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
He gone.
Al Washington is from Columbus, Ryan Day was at BC when Washington played there, Washington's dad played at Ohio State. https://t.co/7dXalANyqu

Could be he wants to be his own man
but I don’t know why your getting negs it’s a plausible scenario
January 7th, 2019 at 6:30 PM ^
That's exactly why he's getting negs. It's a VERY plausible scenerio and nobody is in the mood here for more unpleasant news.
January 7th, 2019 at 8:29 PM ^
Ah yes killing of the messenger is debatable despite notions which ancient proverbs try to instill
January 7th, 2019 at 8:35 PM ^
I'm just here to be the neg sponge. Its like a good bro hug to make you feel better -- but only when no one is looking. Because that violates BroCode.
Down vote me and feel better fellow MGoBros.
January 8th, 2019 at 2:26 AM ^
I think your getting negged for the He gone intro. Everything else is accurate and it’s plausible. But it’s not a sure thing he gone.
He may really like his kids and his team. He may prefer DL. He may like Ann Arbor. But he may miss Columbus.
January 7th, 2019 at 4:54 PM ^
Don Brown is a bigger pull than Day. Brown was his boss at BC and is essentially the reason he’s at Michigan.
Thats not to discount his connections to Columbus and OSU with his dad, which could be the draw.
January 7th, 2019 at 4:54 PM ^
As well as LEGITIMATELY competing for national titles. I assume that holds weight too.
January 7th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
For a given definition of legitimate...
January 7th, 2019 at 6:38 PM ^
I'm sure I'll get negged for this but does osu really give a coach a good shot at competing for a national championship? They've missed the playoffs the last 2 years and the year before that they made it and got spanked. And they no longer have the coach that took them there and instead have a rookie head coach. I know everyone is anti Harbaugh right now but looking I'm not sure osu is in a much better spot than UM going into next season.
January 7th, 2019 at 6:57 PM ^
But they made the playoff. We didn't so they were closer to competing than we were or are or will be.
January 7th, 2019 at 7:01 PM ^
Or will be?
I don’t know if that is true.
This board needs to relax a bit. Everyone has gotten so down.
January 7th, 2019 at 8:12 PM ^
Well....
We havent even been to Indy so you tell me if OSU gives you a better chance of winning a title. Since the late Clinton era this has been true...
January 7th, 2019 at 4:59 PM ^
I'm sure he'll just take the position that helps him advance his career the most. If we really want to keep him we'll have to pay the man, and offer him a promotion in title.
January 7th, 2019 at 5:34 PM ^
In the hierarchy of college jobs, what's better: DL coach or LB coach?
Sounds like we're offering DL coach and OSU is offering LB coach.
January 7th, 2019 at 6:00 PM ^
We'd probably have to assign the "Co-Defensive Coordinator" title and shell out a pretty big raise. FWIW Mattison and the guy they hired from the Niners are splitting the Co-D Coordinator title at OSU, so I doubt they would be in a position to offer that to Washington as well.
Question becomes what do you do with Partridge? I think he is our most indispensable defensive recruiter. We can find guys that can recruit Ohio. Georgia and Jersey recruiting aces would be much more difficult to find.
If I have to prioritize (which clearly I do not), I would save title and big money promotions on that side of the ball for Partridge and do the best I can for Washington. If OSU gives him a better offer, tip of the cap, we'll fine.
January 7th, 2019 at 5:51 PM ^
That's life, pay the man and he stays otherwise he's gone. It's not that complicated.
Other than Fitz and JH I can't think of too many coaches who are at their alma mater and wouldn't leave for the right fit.
January 7th, 2019 at 6:52 PM ^
OSU hasn’t paid their assistants what UM already has, so...
January 7th, 2019 at 9:54 PM ^
Valid points!
Only stays if the player relationship pulls him back...
January 7th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
If DB is staying I see Washington staying. I can't imagine us not matching, or increasing, the salary offered by OSU. But on another note, go F yourself OSU and back off our coaches.
January 7th, 2019 at 4:38 PM ^
He's from Columbus and Ohio State is a better team. There are some things Michigan can't match.
January 7th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
You're gonna definitively say OSU is the better team when they just lost half their offense and the greatest coach they've ever had? Unless Day starts winning championships day one it's gonna get ugly in Columbus when they start to remember what it's like to lose
January 7th, 2019 at 6:20 PM ^
I'm sure that's what people said when Tressel left. We see how that ended up after one year in the wilderness.
OSU always loses half of one side of the ball and then they're fully reloaded by the end of the next season.
January 7th, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
Yeah, but Ryan Day is not Urban Meyer and it isn’t close. Urban was a proven HC with 2 National Championships. Day looks good but no one really knows how he’ll do as the big boss.
January 7th, 2019 at 6:24 PM ^
Uh... yes?
January 7th, 2019 at 6:51 PM ^
Oh so what, because they’ve consistently outrecruited us, won Big Ten championship after Big Ten championship, went 83-9 over the last eight seasons with a national championship, and beaten us 14 out of 15 times... you’re going to say they’re definitively better?!
January 7th, 2019 at 7:51 PM ^
Jesus some of you people could not be more delusional. In what universe do you live that you cannot admit that OSU has the superior program?
January 7th, 2019 at 5:14 PM ^
Michigan is a better and more respected university, and our athletic department doesn't have a recent history of shady ethics and management.
Sheesh, people act like OSU is nirvana or something. I get it, they win the game against us. Ok. Did everyone at OSU want to jump to Michigan in the 90's?
January 7th, 2019 at 5:36 PM ^
Probably.
January 7th, 2019 at 6:03 PM ^
why is UMinSF getting neg'd for this? if anything he was too nice when describing ohio.
January 8th, 2019 at 5:24 AM ^
A more respected university? Have you heard of the research hospital at Ohio State? Or their business school? It's garbage like that that makes us look ridiculous as a fan base, and quite frankly, it should.
As far as the football program. OSU absolutely is superior right now. You're ridiculous if you can't acknowledge that. Could that change? I sure hope so. Although I'm not sure it will with this current coach who seems to turn 5* recruits into distant memories, or the laughing stock of the entire freaking state of Ohio when they insist on pounding their chest and guaranteeing wins "next time". Even while I write this, they are STILL laughing at us as a program. Hell, the entire OSU fan base are bigger fans of JH than WE are.
So maybe cut the "we're just as good as they are" crap. We're not academically superior, or morally superior, and we're sure as hell not athletically superior. That's the attitude that has made us their whipping boy for 2 decades now and it needs to stop.
January 8th, 2019 at 6:00 AM ^
busted
January 7th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
You are making a lot of assumptions here.
1. I'm from Columbus and still have a lot of family there. I have no interest in ever going back.
2. Ohio State is a better team? Well, they certainly have our number lately, but in terms of resources, facilities, money cannons, prestige, atmosphere... I'd say Michigan is at least on par, if not better. I'm not sure that head-to-head records would be very far up the list in importance to - you know - a coach who is partially responsible for the head-to-head record.
3. Bottom line is that we have no frigging clue what the variables are in his decision, what offers are on the table, nor what opportunities are there at either place.

You didn't show up that night to take your deserved beating on an ill thought out thread bashing a coach on the stuff with very little credence .
