Bielema "furious" at officials for pick play
On the replay it looks to me like the Illinois defender clearly initiates the contact on Loveland and Loveland just keeps running forward. Certainly isn't a pick. Poor Bert.

Whoever runs Bert's Twitter account is a salty bitch.

Brett — how about a nice big Wisconsin cheese plate to go along with your whine? Really — it’s on me.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:19 PM ^
Sponsoring Bret’s meal? A dangerous proposition. You must be made of Moody (I mean money)
November 19th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
I’ll borrow to see him work his way through one of those big wheels from Mars Cheese Castle!
November 19th, 2022 at 10:04 PM ^
Are you in SE Wisconsin?
November 19th, 2022 at 8:19 PM ^
It was a pick. Michigan gambled it wouldn’t get called and it worked.
There were marginal calls on both sides. That nothingburger “holding” on JJ’s excellent scramble play / pass completion, for example.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:25 PM ^
It’s not a pick. Loveland is running forward and the DB’s arms come forward and engage him. It’s called a chuck, and it’s legal for the DB, Loveland’s arms come out in response and he continues to run straight. If Loveland had engaged first it would be OPI, but he clearly doesn’t.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
Correct the player has the right to run his route.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:28 PM ^
It’s not a pick. A pick is the play like what happened in the 2017 CFP championship game where Clemson scored where the outside WR runs full speed on a slant into the DB covering the inside WR on the out route. This is more akin to the “blocking downfield when the ball is thrown beyond the LOS” like the screen pass vs IU. Semantics I know, but not a “pick”
November 19th, 2022 at 9:31 PM ^
Usually you are informative but in this case you are totally wrong
November 19th, 2022 at 10:31 PM ^
I'm going to say it's the universe balancing the scales for when they didn't call the defensive of lineman offsides during the deep ball to Anthony.
Also, I would rather win something controversially than not any day.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
Bertrude always plays the victim. He must think he's an extra on SVU.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
I mean, he's not wrong.
There were some bad calls going against us of course, but that was a critical play and it was 100% illegal. If OSU pulled that stunt next week, we'd expect this reaction and more from Harbaugh
November 19th, 2022 at 8:59 PM ^
Wrong, it was not a pick and not illegal. The db lined up across from the TE engaged first.
November 19th, 2022 at 10:33 PM ^
I'm as big as a Michigan Homer as anyone and that was definitely a pick. Even if the defender engages first you can't put your hands into his chest and drive him back. Regardless, I would rather win a controversial game than not any day. Proud of that W.

It's not like JT was short.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:30 PM ^
Corum's fumble did look like a fumble, but I didn't think the reply was definitive. If refs really wanted to hand Michigan the game I think they could have let that stand as called on the field. There were plenty of other opportunities the refs could have called holding calls and pass interference calls on Illinois.
The refs missed that call, but I didn't notice any overall favoritism towards Michigan by the refs today.
November 19th, 2022 at 10:06 PM ^
I disagree. Looking at the replay it was clearly a fumble.
November 19th, 2022 at 11:17 PM ^
Agree. This "the refs wanted to help M for playoff reasons" claim is asinine. They think that the fix was in because of this narrow conversion on 4th down?
November 19th, 2022 at 8:32 PM ^
If were into conspiracies, I'd wonder out loud why CBS bothered making a story about this. Coaches bitch about officiating all the time. It's almost as if they knew that anything involving Michigan would draw lots of clicks and comments.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:41 PM ^
CBS Sports consistently covers Michigan in a negative light, especially Dennis Dodd. That guy gets a hard-on from concern trolling Harbaugh.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:37 PM ^
Not a pick... The DB engaged first and Colston should be allowed to run his route. Good play call, and nice design.
If Harbaugh goes off like Bert is, Warde would fine him and make him apologize (like the last time JH went off on the refs).
November 19th, 2022 at 8:39 PM ^
Geez, so many fat jokes here. Stay classy, y'all.
Eh, this isn't really a story. I saw a clip of his post-game presser. He said the right things, and -- given how painful this loss must have been for him, after a genuinely shitty week -- he's allowed to feel the sting of calls that don't go his way.
God knows nobody here complains about calls that go against us. We're way above that.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
I thought that great corner of theirs committed pass interference several times that weren't called. They finally called it at the end, though.

Whoever wrote that article seems a little shady about it as well. Definitely has a F-Michigan vibe to it.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:47 PM ^
CBS Sports likes to concern troll Michigan and Harbaugh.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
Say what you want about Bielema. He is a very good coach who never should have left Wisconsin. He would still be there and top 15 I am guessing if he stayed.
November 19th, 2022 at 8:48 PM ^
The refs missed a lot both ways all day, but come on we gotta admit they really missed this one. Loveland absolutely can't just straight up block the guy unless Gash catches the ball behind the line of scrimmage. That was absolutely a missed call.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:02 PM ^
November 19th, 2022 at 10:41 PM ^
They can do that. It's called press coverage and defensive backs do it all game long. Receivers cannot put their hands on their chest and drive a defender back. If that was the case wide receivers would do it all the time. It's okay, we were finally on the right side of a bad no call. I'll take it.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:54 PM ^
What was Loveland supposed to do? Change his route when he could run "through" his defender? If you can't press the man across from you, then why are you in a press coverage? Bad defensive call, great offensive call.
November 19th, 2022 at 11:47 PM ^
Incorrect take. Ever played football?

He’s just hangry.

Here Bert have a snickers.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:01 PM ^
Ah yes, this is definitely the same school that flipped their shit when we won the B1G in basketball based on rules they agreed to and wrote a strongly worded letter about it.
Bert's tweet is soft af and Illinois fans are losing their shit on Twitter despite the fact that they got away with multiple DPI calls, a key offsides call, and multiple holding calls
November 19th, 2022 at 9:12 PM ^
Get him a Snickers
November 19th, 2022 at 9:18 PM ^
I want to cut him slack for what he went through this week. UM had so many players missing. Yet, his team couldn't beat them. His star player was a full go. Our star player was on the bench in the second half. He is embarrassing himself complaining about officiating. Coach better next time.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:18 PM ^
Man, that play has gone against us so many times. Indiana did the whole first half. Didn’t remember him being so whiny at Wisconsin. Kind of annoying
November 19th, 2022 at 9:24 PM ^
Bert got the better end of officiating through the course of the game.
November 19th, 2022 at 9:35 PM ^
This bort has turned into the biggest whiney brat (literally). I don't remember him being this way at Wisconsin. You would think he would of gotten humbled at Arkansas.
November 19th, 2022 at 10:09 PM ^
Bert was complaining about the officiating at half time. Something about having to beat the other team, 100,000 fans and other people (meaning the refs).
take the L, you fat ass
November 19th, 2022 at 10:16 PM ^
I see a defensive back trying to play press coverage, and a receiver trying to get into a route. He didn't initiate contact, nor did he pick the defender responsible for Gash. Looks like a good no-call to me.
November 19th, 2022 at 10:49 PM ^
Let's do our best to be empathetic. His mom died. He's devastated and they lost a very close game. I know I've been there with officials. Someone should take his phone.
