"I think this year just came down to a really bad gameplan."

Exactly. If you're looking to the stars to understand why this game was lost, you are lost as well.

The next-level reveal of Michigan's grabby pass defenders?

I spent way too much time trying to think of who the other team in the Top 5 would be before realizing this error.

10/18/2018 - 11:33am As you can see by this…

As you can see by this obviously unbiased write-up, the 2015 game was not a once-in-a-lifetime fluke victory but a calculated move by MSU. That TD was inevitable once they decided to rush all 11 guys which wins you "easy penetration". It's really a wonder that all teams don't rush 11 instead of fielding punts since it gets you a TD or at least a block every time!

Why can't Spartan fans admit it was a close, well-played game that turned on a lucky bounce?

10/16/2018 - 12:02pm The goal of college football…

I agree that there doesn't seem to be a real problem here.

The goal of college football for the fans is to be fun. Penn State lost to MSU, but would still be in this calculated playoff because they played well while losing? Where's the fun in that?

10/16/2018 - 11:49am Agreed. I was surprised MoV…

Agreed. I was surprised MoV is capped at 50! Garbage time starts at 28 or so, I'd say, and the relative margin starts to matter less. Did Maryland or Wisconsin's late TDs really mean Michigan is a worse team?

I read respect in this one, unlike a few weeks ago. We all go through these stages when assessing the quality of a rival, and it looks like Gerdeman has moved from denial to acceptance.

Yes. The NCAA is mostly worried that Jim Harbaugh is going to start doing satellite "concerts" around the south next summer.

09/07/2018 - 12:25pm I agree entirely with your…

I agree entirely with your point 2. This is why the offense has had an unsettling Hoke/Borges feel to it recently. Great play call, just (one guy) didn't execute.

Other teams regularly find ways to turn as few as one talented guy into an entire offense. Why can't Michigan make an offense out of 10 guys executing?

So true. Fans act like the team is "0-17" or "9-9" or whatever stat our detractors have carefully binned to make us feel the worst. This team is 0-1 after losing their first game of the year with a (functionally) new OL and QB on the road against a top 15 team... by 7 points.

Michigan Football is not about us.

Would Michigan have fared better last year with another senior offensive tackle on the roster, like Logan Tuley-Tillman? Would OSU or MSU have kicked him off their team for what he did? He didn't rape or hit anyone.

It's frustrating when some teams play by different rules.

Totally. The dog should have been let go after the first incident in 2009, which by the way was never reported in any of the local rubber newspapers.  It's a blatant violation of Title K-IV.

My wife was in Gross Lab year one of Med School. The power went out as she was elbow-deep in a cadaver in a windowless basement morgue. There was some emergency lighting down the hall but they had covered the door windows to prevent peekers. It was pitch-black. Also, everyone had to leave their phones and electronics in their lockers before class so no one had a flashlight in their pocket.

11/17/2017 - 12:36pm Wait

It looks like they just put grey hair on the Harbaugh face.

It sounds like you and many others are erasing everything but last night.

Imperfection! Burn it down!

10/08/2017 - 11:25pm This stupid sentiment...

This "Dantonio outcoached Harbaugh" narrative is true, but misleading and dumb. Dantonio 'coached' a very mediocre game while Harbaugh's offense imploded. MSU got a number of lucky bounces and enjoyed the benefit of +5 in turnovers and scraped out a win by 4 points. Michigan's offensive gameplan was bad, and I'm as pissed about it as we all are, but this game wasn't some genius coaching coup by Dantonio.

10/08/2017 - 12:42am Young season

Each of the last three National Champions have lost at home early in the season and rallied around it. I hope that this game reveals at last to Harbaugh that something big needs to change in the offense braintrust. If so, we can recover. If not, we Hoke now. I don't think he wants to be Hoke.

10/08/2017 - 12:36am Not a better team, but one you can still lose to

Like Iowa last year, Michigan again lost to a worse team because of offensive ineptitude. It's like Borges never left.

10/08/2017 - 12:32am Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind, eh?

Some just-regular enthusiasm might have won today.

10/08/2017 - 12:21am Once

Well, they did that one time. It was a TD called back on a relevant holding, but the guy was WWAAAYYY open. Phew, glad we didn't try that again!

Wow, 54,543 words! Here's to the far-off day the preview hits 109,901. The "01"st word will be reserved for Brian, though no one will know exactly which word it is. Probably something like "kerfuffle" or "like-substance".

08/11/2016 - 1:36pm Zero

None, because we need to be breaking in the 2017/18 starters/backups during garbage time.

03/10/2016 - 1:08pm Mental mistake. He thought it

Mental mistake. He thought it was G Robinson, whom he expected to be five feet farhter up in the air by then.

11/22/2015 - 2:48pm Maybe

Really, if two days ago you thought that MSU would face Penn State without Cook, what would you say? I'd say Penn State had a chance. The only thing that happened since then is Ohio State choked hard.

10/18/2015 - 12:51am Don't worry about recruits

This sentiment is tiresome and incorrect. Recruits don't come to a game and say "I'll go to whatever school wins."

02/11/2015 - 11:49am I think you mean butthole.

I think you mean butthole. Like people think Harbaugh is a "butthole". It's a compliment.

12/19/2014 - 7:23pm Me too.

I'm getting the ghost clicks on my iPhone 5 also.

10/04/2014 - 9:36am Actually...

Hoke's record has improved greatly since he has been at Michigan.

09/11/2014 - 10:36pm Perfect

Wow, your comments hit the nail on the head for me. Looking back at the Hoke era it's hard to hang a coaching hat on ANY victory. The big wins felt a lot more like the result of luck and/or individual player skill than any aspect of coaching.

Hoke's Michigan just doesn't feel like a program that is looking for ways to win. It feels like a program that is committed to doing things a certain way and assumes that this loyalty will lead to wins. Q: "How are you going to beat team X?" A: "By being Michigan."

09/07/2014 - 3:47pm Amen

With this, correct, perspective it's really funny that we're scratching our heads and wondering why our MAC-level coach has given us a MAC-level team.

09/07/2014 - 3:25pm Other programs just want to

Other programs just want to win. Michigan wants a nice guy who loves the program and gets along with all of the alumni and has connections to coaches past and is his players' best friend and believes unflinchingly in the 'old ways'...

and also wins.

09/07/2014 - 3:14pm You know I felt the same way.

You know I felt the same way. Despite the score it really felt like we were just not finishing while Notre Dame was just playing very very well. the first half anyway. Then it felt like it all started to get into our teams' heads and that's when they really started unfolding.
