College Football Nerds: Michigan Preview

Submitted by jmgoblue83 on August 18th, 2022 at 6:27 PM

Just started watching, but figured some of you might be interested. They have some other previews out as well, including Ohio State. Their vids on NIL and college football in general are a good watch and or listen. Cheers, Go Blue!

I appreciate you sharing this as I crave all the content I can get but.. Starting at 19:00 is just a clown show. I was expecting that so I didn’t listen to the entire thing but “Michigans secondary has a few guys that will be learning on the job” is an absurd take. Gemon Green, DJ Turner, RJ Morten, and Rod Moore are not “learning on the job”.

Maybe Sainristil if they even know who that is.

It’s just boiler plate. Same thing you would get from bleacher report. Some lamenting of the non conference schedule, the QB battle, etc. There was also some sort of discussion about how having a high draft pick is both good and bad for the team. Honestly sounded like a broke ass Cowherd take. I’ll take a pass on these nerds.

Both your starting safeties from 21 are in the NFL and your current slotted #1 NB has 6 career tackles and spent most of his college tenure at WR, but nobody has anything to learn? Of all the things we said in that video, that's a weird one to take offense.

Rod Moore and RJ Moten have recorded a stat in 10 games, combined. I'm sure they have something to learn, literally anyone would in that situation. I don't care if they played for New Mexico State or Alabama.

I suggested that your take was uniformed about Michigan Football. I’m allowed to have my opinion on your writing/videos. Don’t want pushback? Stop having an opinion. This is how it works- you share your opinion and people provide feedback as they choose

I didn’t say you sucked. My god, one critique is like the end of the world to you and your three accounts.

Did you see the smiley face? They were just fucking with you. I actually think it's kind of cool that they come here for a little bit of friendly banter.

You might want to take a step away from the keyboard and relax.

Hence the smiley face. I merely responded to your critique with my own data. You were the one who got sassy. Your takes were wrong, that is unless you think Colin Cowherd is going to know that your starting NB spent 3 years as a WR or that Bell got hurt a few plays after making a ridiculous circus catch on the sidelines on a ball ruled out of bounds. Or the nuances of the Gattis hire and fire. I don't mind being challenged, I just prefer it be done fairly.

Our previous account was under our old name "SEC Fans" we were originally an SEC focused channel.

Our UM game previews that do around 20-25,000 views generally have a few hundred views from MGoBlog. We have accounts on forums because we enjoy engaging with people who consume our content.

You two are better than most. It has to be most difficult to know enough about every team to address matters in an intelligent manner. It is most difficult for the pathological partisans to be objective and at the same time I cannot imagine trying to fill the role you attempt to take on. As I stated, you two may be as good as they come-I find you tolerable :)

Thanks! We really do pride ourselves on objectivity. And as much as people say we're just stat nerds, we also pride ourselves on actually watching the games and having meaningful things to say about match ups, coaches and personnel.

We don't always get it right though. But it's not our jobs, we do it for fun. And the past 7 years doing this has exposed us to so many great fanbases in a way we'd never have gotten before.

This is why I like either the conference specific podcasts...or ones like this and Solid Verbal.  I think they also do a good job of having more than just surface-level knowledge (ie: everyone who works at ESPN) of many teams.

It was pretty easy to tell that they had more than just a passing knowledge of the program.

Thanks for the content!

We’re talking about 18-23 year olds. Everyone has “something to learn” at this stage of their careers.

Rod Moore and RJ Moten have recorded a stat in 10 games, combined.

Not sure where you got this stat, Moten recorded a stat in 10 games on his own. Moore recorded a stat in 11 on his own.

Despite your claim that both starting safeties are in the NFL, you neglect to acknowledge that Dax Hill actually played quite a bit of nickel. As a result, Moten made 5 starts at safety, and Moore made 4 starts at safety. And both recorded over 30 tackles. So safe to say they both were regular features in the defense and “need to learn on the job” isn’t any more of a descriptor than it is for anyone else.

Thanks for the video and analysis.

Moore was essentially starting by the end of the season and played well against OSU as a freshman. But you're absolutely right. He's going to have more responsibilities this year than he did last season.

One thing I love about my dude, though, is that he ain't gonna back down from nobody.

Moore is really, really good and beyond his years.  I did not think he would ever amount to anything here, or have meaningful snaps.  And then he starts as a freshmen.  Not only starts, but does real well - quality minutes.  Kid is a stud that i was very wrong about.  He will be one of the better ones at safety Michigan has ever had when it is said and done.

I’ll have to disagree, they’re definitely not Cowherd. I think they have a pretty level headed summary of the team from an outsiders perspective. They complement the roster and development of the players. They also are not buying that Ohio State is going to  run us over because of losing the stars from last year’s team.

It’s not about complimenting the team. Simply put, Michigan does not have a secondary that needs to “learn on the job”. Period.

The two corners from last year are back. That’s half. Rood Moore started The Game- that’s 3/4. RJ Moten has played a lot of football for Michigan. Sure, he needs to learn a bit but he’s not cutting his teeth out there. He has played- a lot. Remember he was the one that dropped a sure fire interception against OSU- he played in big moments. That leaves out Barrett as a passing down linebacker who has played a ton of football here. Sorry I disagree with your opinion, it happens to most of us throughout our lives.

I like College Football Nerds.  I enjoy watching their shows on Michigan.  I feel like they are giving honest views that put decent thought into.

Their main question at the end was:  what do you think of Michigan's #8 ranking.

I think it's OK, but I'd probably put Michigan above Utah and Notre Dame.  So maybe #6 for me.

I feel like rankings get sorted out later in the season, though.  Teams get the chance to show what their rankings should be as the season goes on.  So I don't get much perturbed by early rankings.

I’ve been tuning in to College Nerds for years and enjoy the hell out of them. I’m grateful they step out of their SEC space on occasion and give UM football a go. Their insights are appreciated.

I'm late to this thread, as I had it on an open tab (and a crazy week of work).  I just watched it, and I think that they were very fair in their analysis.  It was fact-based, and they are into a lot of details.  It's better content than you get in most places.  Thanks guys!
