Exit DJ Turner, Cornelius Johnson Likely Returning Comment Count

Brian January 6th, 2023 at 2:02 PM

This one says draft:

The draft industry thinks this is a good move. The Draft Network has him in the second round and NFL Draft Buzz's composite of six different draft sites has him #67 overall. He is unlikely to make it to day three.

Michigan is now waiting on Gemon Green's decision to see if they'll have a veteran bookend for Will Johnson next year.

In happier news, Zach Shaw reports that Cornelius Johnson has enrolled in the School of Social Work. That would not be a thing you do unless you are returning to the football team. Let us embed a video here.

Good video. Nice. Still no content after the jump.

Why is Brian so opposed to content after the jump?

Good luck DJ - for my money, you've been the best cover corner at Michigan since David Long...

Jourdan Lewis was a better lock down corner than both.  He wasn't as good as Long in run support.

The 2016 team was still Harbaugh's most mature and talented, imo - and wins in Iowa if not for Speight inury (directly linked to Grant Newsome injury), and easily wins @ OSU if not for the ref robbery all game and again, the Speight injury.

I do believe UM 2023 will be Harbaugh's best team overall going into the year, with depth and talent, but the top tier talent in 2016 was comparable.

Fellow SSW graduate here. Hardest Graduate Program to get into in the US and the #1 ranked school for almost 3 decades running. Great program to have a great young man like CJ in it!

As much as I'd love DJ back (he's been a little too maligned here this year IMO) it's the smart move. The NFL will love his athleticism, and teams are getting less and less focused on outside guys needing to be over 6' as receivers themselves get smaller. If he has a good wingspan he'll be a slam dunk day 2 pick. CoJo is nice to get back, I guess the people wondering if Anthony's move had to do with a veteran returning may have been right.

Yeah, mostly a Davis joke. Although, now it's a joke on Mark Davis, who has carried on his dad's speed fetish (e.g., making Henry Ruggs the first WR drafted in 2020).

FWIW, DJ's 4.28 was at the M facilities, and Feldman's Freaks List included this (along with a video):

He is the fastest guy on the Wolverines, having hit 23.07 mph on the GPS and run a 4.28 40 — out of a two-point stance, no less.

So maybe not a full five FAKEs.

Probably right. I assume Henning will be given the firm handshake, but who knows in the NIL world.

Nevertheless, there is still a lot of snaps being held by Johnson and Anthony had people pushing from behind.

Still thought he was going to be a great one. No idea why it didn't work out. If Anthony goes to the right program that negates whatever his negatives were, he could put up some numbers.

DJ, a lot of talent, seemed better at the end of 2021 than any time during 2022, but not a big liability either. Athleticism and enough nice plays should have him being drafted by end of Day 2.

Strange though how a few guys who were thought to be mid-round picks (Lavert Hill, Donovan Warren from RR days, etc.) never got drafted.

Getting Gemon back would be very nice. With Will and Mike S. we're pretty set for 3 WR formations if G.G. returns.

As for CJ, huge to see him back, along with Wilson who balled well during bowl game and should have had another TD reception.

Would be great to get CJ back next year. I hope maybe we can get JJ and Cornelius more downfield reps during the season rather than sitting on it till OSU and later. The passing offense can be lethal if we let it be

Good luck to DJ.  Have really enjoyed watching his play and growth.  Really like how he challenges receivers.

I’m no expert but given his size, I sort of see him as a Mike Hilton type slot cover.
