The Layoff..Pros & Cons
The Layoff..Ive been thinking about this ALOT...Your thoughts? Right now I think its a PRO...We just played 4 games in 4 days..Im sure were tired. We have some nicks and bruises that could use some healing..We will be well rested..well oiled and ready to WIN!!
What say you?
free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws .................
Being exhausted affects freethrow shooting too :)
at the conclusion of practice.
What year did we beat down Tennessee so bad that we didn't even attempt a free throw? We need to do that. 6 times.
Not quite correct. Jordan Morgan attempted (and missed) one free throw in that game!
didn't he? Guy is the Jerry Tarkanian of our era.
Weights? Really? That has to be a team inside-joke.
I also like the extra time for JB to look at film of us so he can add the right wrinkles and plan the plausible adjustments for how we're playing on any given day.
Basically,
1. More time is a positive, unless you don't use it well. But,
2. I trust JB to use it well. So,
3. I think that more time is a positive for us.

Pros:
-Livers' ankle
-seeding benefits (compared to the lazy last-second approach last year - 7 seed after dominating the B1G elite)
-more time to address weaknesses
-more time for refocus and refreshment before a (hopefully) long run
Cons:
-cannot immediately capitlize on very current hot streak
-it is a new experience that could affect how we start out the tournament (may be mitigated by playing a 14 seed instead of a 12 if the committee was lazy like last year at the last second)
-fans will complain about it
I'd just worry about the first game - coming out flat against a bad time, ala Iowa.
Pretty confident that this swarming defense can break down just about anyone, and if our first round opponent is a little larger/slower, I think any rust will be worn off quickly and we'll be back in the groove for the round of 32 and beyond.
Michigan was 20-11 and the 8th seed heading into the big ten tourney. They might have been under seeded a tad but they weren't criminally underseeded.
If we advance at least to the Sweet 16 - Pro.
If we don't - Con - and blame Delaney.
Although, I will say....it is raining outside right now and I am tempted to blame Delany for that as well. If our tournament run is tragically short, I will also blame Delany at least in part, I will admit. I blame the man for a lot of things honestly, including the odd sunspot.
I sure did... and I chuckled.
the announcers didn't comment when Beilein said "the team the team the team" on two seperate occasions. This guys gets Michigan tradition. It would have been nice if the announcers explained the significance of this utterance to the younger generation of Michigan Men.
"Hindsight Man" already knows the answer. He's not revealing that answer for 12 days, of course.
Captain Hindsight!!! I have no idea why I thought he was named "Hindsight Man."
One of the better South Park episodes.
Irregardless.*
*Yes, that is an actual, if somewhat archaic word. It contains multiple negatives. You can never have enough negatives in relation to Delaney.
of a layoff. We get to play our first game against a 13 or 14 seed.
It seems to me that it's better to have the single bye vs. the double bye in the B10 tourney. You get the first game jitters and unfamiliarity with a new building out of the way against an easier opponent before facing the tougher teams.
I think you saw that in all double bye game ones, especially OSU. We're in good enough shape, especially with a 9 man rotation, that the extra game doesn't seem to affect us.
I think this team deLivers a great performance in the 1st round. Belien is our rock, man.
Hate it. Don't take a team on a roll and give it a break. Hate it, hate it, hate it.
I totally disagree. The team hasn't had more than four days between games since Thanksgiving.
We were sucking wind in the B1G final -- but so was Purdue. I think the entire B1G needs a breather.
Con: we might be rusty
Pro: we should be rested
That we will be prepared isn't really a pro, because Beilein would have us ready regardless of prep time.
with other teams. He knows how to use the extra time to prepare and keep his players sharp.
Pro: School is on break this week. It's nice that the players get a little time off.
Con: Going through the compressed schedule that led to the extra time off.
Break week was a better time to go to NYC for the tournament than this week. Would be even better if the break was this week.
Im in Playa del Carmen south of Cancun right now...Here for 5 weeks BUT we have a CBS affiliate down here so I get to watch! Dont hate me im here working

Bottom line: "You can mention rust or use it as an excuse all you want, but the reality is that there’s scant evidence of it existing as a problem for NBA teams."
plays hell with the winning percentages. who knew?
I don't see the downside to the rest at all. From reading Stu Douglass's article, Coach B seems like an animal in the film room and preparing the team. I trust him to make sure everyone stays mentally locked in.
It also depends on who we play and the match ups. However, I'll be shocked if we come out on fire in the first round. I think it will take the team a half to adjust to the long layoff. Obviously its the tourney and anything can happen, but if we win the first game, I think we advance to the Sweet 16. I am more worried about the first game than the potential second opponent.
What does Beilein do to keep them motivated? What does he do to keep the momentum going? That’s the difference between a potential deep run into March and a first round exit.
