Foreshadowing: the 2021 B1G championship opening TD had those three players sprinting down the sideline together. What an incredible legacy for JJ, Blake and Mikey.
They are 2021 Ohio State (but not quite as elite statistically). Pretty sure this Michigan team has a great blueprint for how to beat a team with that profile.
In a game of inches and with an history littered with unlucky bounces instead we got fingernail tips that are completions instead of interceptions, fourth down conversions, toes being out of bounds, regathering a muffed punt with forward progress inches beyond the goal line!
The statistically best Michigan team in history going up against the "least" awesome Alabama team in the last 15 years versus a lifetime of disappointing and underwhelming post-season gameplanning and performances. I sure wouldn't mind getting a lucky bounce or two.
Feels like OSU is Maryland's offense with Penn State's defense so if Michigan plays at the level of the last two weeks feels like a loss. Good thing this game is at home. If they take the ball out of JJ's hands and stick with the pedestrian/predictable Lloydball and they wind up losing, I will be very grumpy. Holding out hope they empty the kitchen sink and blow them out in convincing fashion!
Iowa and Illinois have great, if not elite defenses, and the other two are PSU and OSU. Maybe they're not all top-5 but I would be hard pressed to say they aren't top-15. And in terms of hypothetical future opponents those are all better defenses than anyone else left except Georgia.
If USC is ahead now and would remain ahead if the game wasn't played, then they should just sit it out. Why play and risk losing?
In order to make sense the committee would have needed to rank OSU ahead of USC this week allowing for USC to jump into the 4-spot with a conference championship win.
THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND DEVANTE JONES---THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE JONES OUT---NO WAIT THEY'VE BROUGHT HIM A CHAIR, A BOLD MOVE BY HOWARD, THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY VILLANOVA CAN MESS UP THIS SHOT---OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH---SWEET BUTTER CRUMPETS!!!! CARTED OFF ON A STRETCHER OF GLORY! DEVANTE JONES AND HIS HEAD OF STEEL ARE GOING TO THE ELITE 8!
Michigan does not have as much of the high end talent as UGA
So Georgia has more recruiting stars** but Michigan has put more players in the NFL over the past five seasons than Georgia and that's not going to change this year. I don't buy the talent gap between these two specific rosters at this moment in time.
It says either negative test OR vaccinated. Sounds clear to me like if you're vaccinated you won't need to be tested. Michigan's entire team will be vaccinated, ergo, no issues!
Yes that sounds correct. A georgia reporter said today that JT Daniels was vaccinated and showing symptoms. Going to be a long, nightmarish 10 days until the game.
Just bear in mind that the likelihood of an outbreak for Michigan (and Cinci and Bama) are all really really high right now. I'd be surprised actually if any team makes it to NYE unscathed.
First we have Cade denying Edwards' throwing ability, now we have Corum and McCarthy feuding. This team is in shambles! divided! Spelling certain doom for the playoffs!
No mention of injuries in Iowa's key wins. Losing 17-3 vs PSU before Clifford goes down and PSU gets under 1 yard per play after that. Minnesota without Ibrahim. Nebraska's backup QB instead of Martinez. The only two functional and healthy teams Iowa played (Purdue & Wisconsin) pummeled them.
Embrace it everyone, your team has a heisman trophy finalist lining up on defense in a championship game. The monkey is off their backs and they are laser focused on taking the next step.
@Wisconsin (B. Allen)
vs Penn State (S. Clifford)
vs Purdue (D. Bell)
vs Minnesota (M. Ibrahim)
@Nebraska (A. Martinez)
Iowa's gameplan in 2021 is very straightforward: make sure the opposing team's best player is out with injury. They are 3-0 in big games where they execute their gameplan and 0-2 in big games when they don't.
When considering Iowa, I start with comparing how both teams have fared this season against opponent's currently ranked in the AP poll. What's that? None of Iowa's 12 opponent's this season are currently ranked?

A fairytale ending to a story and swell of feelings spanning a generation. Thanks for putting on Mgoblog from the very beginning. Go blue!
I would like someone to make the 2021-2023 remix :)
Go Blue!

2023 Washington is a slightly worse 2021 OSU, eerily similar offensive and defensive profiles with OSU being better in both.
Michigan was built to beat CJ Stroud throwing to Olave, Wilson, and Smith-Ngiba. Next week will be no different.

What an epic moment for this team.

It's a toss-up between Amaker and Ellerbe for how far back you'd have to go to see a team so hapless in game deciding moments.
deep balls…
wide open he was;
deep balls, they said, couldn't be thrown;
touchdown michigan!
Someone help me understand what TCU did to totally shut down Texas’ run game? That is the performance outlier that has me concerned.
If USC had just called in sick this week they'd be in the CFP. Laughable system and glad it's going away.
Brace yourselves for Armageddon III.

HOW DO WE KNOW IF MICHIGAN IS FOR REAL WHEN THEY STILL HAVENT PLAYED ANYONE???
Lived in FL through the '04 season where Charley and others effed things up pretty bad. Stay safe y'all, don't mess around with these storms.
Scoreboard!
Everything is awful!!!!

Fuck Georgia for shitting the bed in the SEC title game and letting two teams get in.
(Edit: Doubling down on the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Ergo I am calling the winless-bowl-season SEC trash.)
Yeah the idea that Clemson at the end of the season with all the data in is a top-4 team just jumps off the page as crazytown.

Yeah that's the language that matters. Negative test OR vaccinated. Michigan will all be vaccinated. Should be a done deal, good to go.
Yes that sounds correct. A georgia reporter said today that JT Daniels was vaccinated and showing symptoms. Going to be a long, nightmarish 10 days until the game.
Do they have a GlowPuck tracker but for COVID?
Just bear in mind that the likelihood of an outbreak for Michigan (and Cinci and Bama) are all really really high right now. I'd be surprised actually if any team makes it to NYE unscathed.
Any pushback will have to be decided upon before teams travel, what date are they scheduled to head down there?
PAWWWWWWWL THESE TICKET PRICES AINT PLAYED NOBODY
Pay money to watch 3 hours of commercials in a theater. Excuse me if I'm not tripping over my own feet in a rush to do this. Yikes.
How do you upgrade Disney+ to include ESPN?
Weird, I thought ESPN+ did not have the primary ESPN channels (ESPN, ESPN2) for live sports.
First we have Cade denying Edwards' throwing ability, now we have Corum and McCarthy feuding. This team is in shambles! divided! Spelling certain doom for the playoffs!
I've been looking for another excuse to post this again.
From Ronald Bellamy's Underachieving All-Stars to Ronald Bellamy's Overachieving 3-Stars!
Iowa sold out vs the run and daring McNamara to beat them throwing. Thank god those two trick plays got points.
Iowa 3
Michigan 49
Iowa 3
Aidan Hutchinson scores a touchdown.

Michigan is Wisconsin with a good offense.
Iowa is Wisconsin with a bad offense.
Embrace it everyone, your team has a heisman trophy finalist lining up on defense in a championship game. The monkey is off their backs and they are laser focused on taking the next step.
Iowa has 5 touchdown drives of 75 yards or longer for the entire season of Big Ten play.
Michigan had 4 versus OSU alone (the other two were 63, 66 yards because we got a good kickoff return).
I prefer the 2010 version (Roundtree tackled at the one just makes it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IV-xZZay9E
Both are classics.
Embrace touchbacks. Iowa has a dangerous returner and an anemic offense. No reason to take any chances here.
What were Iowa's five toughest games this year?
@Wisconsin (B. Allen)
vs Penn State (S. Clifford)
vs Purdue (D. Bell)
vs Minnesota (M. Ibrahim)
@Nebraska (A. Martinez)

Crazy stat of the day that serves no purpose: OSU was the only game this year in which Michigan had a negative turnover margin.
