Score was 75-45....Zack Novak blew my 11 year old daughter a kiss during a timeout—he was Legendary around the house until Harry Styles took over.....
BEFORE the game we sat next to UT suits huddled in soul food restaurant that were heard to be discussing when to fire Bruce Pearl.....

Weights? Really? That has to be a team inside-joke.

I also like the extra time for JB to look at film of us so he can add the right wrinkles  and plan the plausible adjustments for how we're playing on any given day.

Basically,

1. More time is a positive, unless you don't use it well. But,

2. I trust JB to use it well. So,

3. I think that more time is a positive for us.

Pros:

-Livers' ankle

-seeding benefits (compared to the lazy last-second approach last year - 7 seed after dominating the B1G elite)

-more time to address weaknesses

-more time for refocus and refreshment before a (hopefully) long run

Cons:

-cannot immediately capitlize on very current hot streak

-it is a new experience that could affect how we start out the tournament (may be mitigated by playing a 14 seed instead of a 12 if the committee was lazy like last year at the last second)

-fans will complain about it

I'd just worry about the first game - coming out flat against a bad time, ala Iowa.

Pretty confident that this swarming defense can break down just about anyone, and if our first round opponent is a little larger/slower, I think any rust will be worn off quickly and we'll be back in the groove for the round of 32 and beyond.

Although, I will say....it is raining outside right now and I am tempted to blame Delany for that as well. If our tournament run is tragically short, I will also blame Delany at least in part, I will admit. I blame the man for a lot of things honestly, including the odd sunspot.

Since we won the whole thing, our seed should be high enough to get a draw against a team that’s finishing their tournament today or tomorrow, or has already finished. In other words, we’ll have an opponent with a comparable layoff, so any rust should be equivalent. And if any layoff effects carry over into the second game, that’s on the coaches and players. I tend to doubt that this team will have such a problem.

of a layoff. We get to play our first game against a 13 or 14 seed.

It seems to me that it's better to have the single bye vs. the double bye in the B10 tourney. You get the first game jitters and unfamiliarity with a new building out of the way against an easier opponent before facing the tougher teams.

I think you saw that in all double bye game ones, especially OSU. We're in good enough shape, especially with a 9 man rotation, that the extra game doesn't seem to affect us.

Con: we might be rusty

Pro: we should be rested

That we will be prepared isn't really a pro, because Beilein would have us ready regardless of prep time.

with other teams. He knows how to use the extra time to prepare and keep his players sharp.

Pro: School is on break this week. It's nice that the players get a little time off.

Con: Going through the compressed schedule that led to the extra time off.

Is that the committee can take into account our BIG tournament games when determining our seed. If the tournament ran up to selection Sunday the committee would have already decided, regardless of the outcome.

I don't see the downside to the rest at all.  From reading Stu Douglass's article, Coach B seems like an animal in the film room and preparing the team.  I trust him to make sure everyone stays mentally locked in.

It also depends on who we play and the match ups. However, I'll be shocked if we come out on fire in the first round. I think it will take the team a half to adjust to the long layoff. Obviously its the tourney and anything can happen, but if we win the first game, I think we advance to the Sweet 16. I am more worried about the first game than the potential second opponent.

Can be a pro or a con. Just depends on how the team responds to having this time off. It can be exactly what they need, or it could be what ends them.

What does Beilein do to keep them motivated? What does he do to keep the momentum going? That’s the difference between a potential deep run into March and a first round exit.

What? Um, they just won the Big 10 in NYC in dominant fashion. They earned themselves a 3 seed at least. There is no possible way they will be unmotivated. They will practice hard and with focus all week, barely containing their excitement for the tourney. They will be well rested and raring to go. I feel sorry for the team that plays us first round. 30 point victory coming.
