OT: Yahoo Report implicates Miles Bridges in Dirty Dealings with ASM Sports Agency

Submitted by WorldwideTJRob on

Looks as if Izzo will have to answer more uncomfortable questions at his press conferences. They go into detail that Miles Bridges Mom took $500 on some documents at the agency. This would make him ineligible immediately and probably would spell the end for Coach Izzo at MSU.

this in another thread that looks like it was removed: With it's $10 billion+ TV contract there is no way the NCAA touches any of this before the tournament. CBS would simply not allow it, and CBS is the association's main revenue source.

we’re talking about an agent who may have paid for the players’ meal when they met. Impermissible, but it’s not going to bring anyone’s program down.

Nothing much will come of it for the likes of Duke and MSU. Eat at Arby’s.

Those alumni don’t give them money or give them anything and as long as they don’t purchase anything for them like even hamburger meat for them to make burgers for dinner I actually believe that would fall under an area that is not cheating or breaking violation. It’s like a friend telling a player to use his house as a house guest for a weekend and while obvious these alumni aren’t friends it’s a grey area where they aren’t breaking rules because they can claim friendship.

This is very dangerous to be making this suggestion, please stop spreading this. While technically there is an exception for friends/other students - it needs to actually be used.

The NCAA rule prohibits a booster from providing extra benefits:

16.02.3 Extra Benefit. [A] An extra benefit is any special arrangement by an institutional employee or representative of the institution's athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete family member or friend a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation. Receipt of a benefit by student-athletes or their family members or friends is not a violation of NCAA legislation if it is demonstrated that the same benefit is generally available to the institution's students or their family members or friends or to a particular segment of the student body (e.g., international students, minority students) determined on a basis unrelated to athletics ability. (Revised: 1/10/91, 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13)

It is playing with fire to suggest anything else, unless there is truly a legitimate basis to show that this isn't something you just do for athletes.

This should finally be the tipping point for the ncaa. Either they pay the players legally or ban hammer all these schools. Seeing as duke, UNC Kentucky are listed, I'm going with the former. If they do nothing per usual then they simply have opened the flood gates.

I remember when I'd try to explain that the biggest reason Beilein wasn't landing top tier prospects was because of his unwillingness to open his check book for them and the FIRE BEILEIN crowd would tell me how wrong I was.

“There’s potential impermissible benefits and preferential treatment for players and families of players at Duke, North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan State, USC, Alabama and a host of other schools. “

This is from the FREEP article.

Yahoo reported it did not view all of the documents the federal government possesses. The document with the links to Bridges was not included among the photos of the spreadsheets shown in their report.

We only know what we've been allowed to know thus far.

They wouldn't be leaking stuff to Yahoo, everyone's favorite credulous wanna be college sport cops. How many times does Yahoo have to do these big ballyhooed exposes that end up being nothing burgers before everyone realizes they're just a bunch of mall cops? It basically all boils down to "a bunch of guys maybe got loans, some other guys maybe got a lunch paid for by an agent, but we don't actually know that for sure."

is that it isn’t their investigation to run and control. And it is being made public, including arrest and physical evidence. Not so easy to sweep under the carpet.

A Lions beat guy posting about a "small" loan "before" Bridges was enrolled seemed a bit odd.  Then I saw on his LinkedIn profile that he's an MSU alum.  Mystery solved.

Wow I’m surprised look this is my surprised face :0 All the players listed should have to sit out for the rest of the season. I don’t think anything will happen to the coaches however, but this could seriously impact future recruits. Did the report mention anything about players still in high school?

baffles me.  How does anyone in his highly-paid position get away with saying there's a "systemic" problem?  He didn't just walk in the door yesterday.  It's his system!

Spartans will.....

Harbor a culture that degrades and demeans women.

I am new, so hope some are not hard on me, but I always look at the *judge judy* things.    If it does not make sense, then there is more to it and sometimes it comes out and sometimes it does not.      Programs that don't have a history like Oregon back years ago stood out in football.    CBB programs like gonzaga and witchita st stand out to me.    Everywhere Calipari would go stood out starting with Umass.     I think things go on and heard things over the years about michigan, but also heard they would not match what some would.       Do any remember David Bowens leaving to Western Ill?      I knew his close friends and it was for a reason.    Was it legal?   shit, I don't have a clue, but I know what I was told and it was dirty IMO.       No university will be perfect in the current NCAA setup, but I am proud that MICHIGAN has standards and they stick to them.

A parent taking $500 is not going to be what takes Izzo down. It's not clear that the sexual assault scanda/cover-up/culture is going to even touch him. The parent will be asked to pay it back and that will be it. We're talking about the NCAA.

Exactly. If Izzo is still walking the sidelines during all of the shit he is dealing with, then a $400 advancement to a players mom isn't going to rock the boat.

Has this already been posted?

So I guess this is kind of putting all the blame on Miles parents without directly saying that? I can actually believe that is the case. Izzo did have a prior relationship to the dawkins family. Not a good look though. This combined with all of the sexual assault stuff going on makes me think he might just end up retiring after the year.

its not about 500.     I would bet that 500; that more will come(details).  unfortunately things like this don't happen over night.

Its always a good day to be maize and blue!    I think we have a standard that speaks for itself.
