Seems to be a perfect fit for this team as OC and WR coach.

Any chance he'll bring Rex Ryan with him? Boy, having Rex Ryan on staff would certainly spice things up!

idk man, if we really want a decided strategic advantage, we should tap our Btady connection to get to Charlie Weis. Plus Rex Ryan isn't fat anymore. Nobody wants skinny Rex.

All Jets jokes aside, their offense was surprisingly ok last season with Josh McCown's corpse at QB. This wouldn't be bad. Hell, I'd probably prefer this over McElwain

McCown played really well up until the time he got hurt. He's not as bad as people think. He has just played on a lot of shitty teams.

And with his expertise lying with the WR's, that's a good sign. Robby Anderson went from a complete nobody who was undrafted out of temple to catching 63 balls 7 TD's and almost a 1000 yards in his second season this year. Jermaine Kearse wasn't going to make Seattles offense and he had 65 catches and 5 touchdowns.
If he happens to be OC too, that's fine. Seferaian-Jenkins had a resurgent year under Morton, I think he was around 50 catches himself. I would be thrilled with this hire. Anyone who has spent his coaching career learning under Pete Carrol, Jim Harbaugh, and Sean Payton is fine by me!
February 12th, 2018 at 12:58 PM ^
Honestly I’d hire him over Mac.
February 12th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
to come with Harbaugh from SF as WR coach. He honestly sounded like the best candidate then, but decided to stay in the NFL.
February 12th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Just looking at it from a football career perspective, the biggest obstacle would be why would someone take such a big step down from NFL OC to college position coach.
But, if there are relationship or quality of life factors that have him willing to do it, I think this would be a home run hire for us.
February 12th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
about; McIlwain, Cameron, Wright, Morton and obviously, Enos, would be likely to stick around as just a WR coach. Just like Ed Warriner isn't going to be an offensive analyst for years to come.
Warriner and the 10th coach look like they are going to be in line to replace Drevno and Hamilton. The question is whether or not Hamilton and Drevno get another chance this coming season.
February 12th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
That's exactly what I was thinking. Coach has replacements lined up if Dev & Pep don't get the Offense going.
February 12th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
He was an NFL OC for one year, which was last year. He wen't from USC OC to 49ers WR coach, then Sainsts WR coach.
Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he, or anyone being seriously considered for that job, are told he'll be the next OC when Drev/Pep move on.

I think Mac and Morton are the ones that are being seriously considered. Feldman didn't really mention anything about Cameron.
February 12th, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
has a very good resume and I think would make a very good WR coach for us and have some very good input on offense.
February 12th, 2018 at 12:58 PM ^
I mean come on.
February 12th, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
Not a lot of downside to not having the guy on staff right now, so if it takes a few extra weeks to get the best person for the job I don't see the problem.

I mean, it is the middle of February, so I think you have nothing but time for a while, but I am personally hoping all this is sorted out by sometime before the Spring Game. If nothing else, I think the team should know all 100 or so analysts / coordinators on offense before the start getting too far into those practices.
February 12th, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
that type of attitude is how we got stuck with Drevno

He was the OC at USC for 2 years and has coached several more in college so he isn't strickly an NFL guy

"Jim is an NFL guy with an NFL mindset"
He has coached at 3 college teams and 1 pro team. He took his current job in college over several pro offers. How is he an NFL guy again?
February 12th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
Define NFL guy. If the distinction is a college coach having NFL coaching experience (versus not having any) then he is an NFL guy. The majority of college coaches do not.
If the bar is higher, he probably still meets the definition: Harbaugh's longest tenure at one spot was as HC of the 49ers (5 years). He made a Superbowl and two NFC championships. He runs a decidedly pro scheme (in a now traditional sense) which utlizes a higher proportion of TE's, FB's, power running and QB's making multiple reads, as opposed to pure spread teams which are uniquitous in college.
He also played in the NFL at QB for a long time. Even at Stanford he used traditional "pro" concepts on offense. He has a large network of friends and former colleagues all over the NFL. Also - It is reported that his practices are structured and run similar to NFL style practices.
All in all I'd say "NFL guy" is probably valid term that applies to Harbaugh, relative to most college coaches.

can he recruit?
February 12th, 2018 at 2:31 PM ^
had a lot to do with the last two assistant coach hires. I'd be more than okay with a top flight teacher at a position that needs one now.

his resume looks exhausting, he's moving almost every single year
February 12th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
February 12th, 2018 at 1:16 PM ^
not just coaching but his playing experience was a different stop almost every year
February 12th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
I think most coaches start their careers that way. his 3 places in ten year stint prior to 2017 is actually pretty steady compared to most coaches.
February 12th, 2018 at 1:05 PM ^
Because the more I think about it, the more I want a shark fucker on the coaching staff.
Who would be brave enough to get in a guy's face knowing that he fucks sharks in his spare time?
Could be an exellent motivator.

I'd be okay with either, honestly. I think you can make both Morton and McElwain sound appealing.

need fewer coaches and more people with the sole job of recruiting good three - four star offensive linemen who won't go to the SEC.
