Definitely nothing wrong w/ that.

The only isse is, assuming Patridge stays as expected, currently we're a bit "defense heavy" on the staff, and that isn't even the side of the ball that we're struggling on.  So on the surface it doesn't make sense, but if he can move to ST & TEs or something like that & primarily be a value-add on the intel/recruiting side initially, it may be a good hire.

Then if his personality truly does fit w/ the staff longer-term, once other assistant defensive coaches inevitably move on or retire over the next few years, slide him over to that side of the ball.

He had only been with Kelly for one season and has much less experience than Elston.

Elston got promoted to associate HC from assistant HC in addition to remaining the DL coach. Lea got a big and meaningful promotion. Elston's looks to be nothing more than a minor consolation prize.

If Elston wants to become a DC, he probably isn't happy about how that went down. I don't think he could be blamed for leaving ND now for any reasonable offer. Whether we'll have a good place for him seems unclear to me.

I've applied for a promotion at my job. Worked hard to get it. ...and lied to everyone who asked if I saw myself making a long term commitment to the organization. Really, I just want to be paid more as I job hunt, and be able to demand a higher salary at my next job

coach loves competition, meritocracy..... bring in all the assistants you can find, let'm fight it out.

Color me stupid but I'm not seeing a fit here unless DB/GM is retiring in 12 months and this guy wants to take a step backward in his career?  His next job should be as HC somewhere.

He's a position coach now. What is an assistant/associate head coach title worth? Fred Jackson was our assistant or associate HC for ten years. What did that lead to?

ND doesn't release their salaries, but I'd bet we pay assistants better than they do. Coming back to his alma mater should be a draw too.

Think he's a great recruiter and I'm a just a fan. However, I want to see a hire on offense that gets me excited. Defense struggles at the end of games could be due to conditioning or lack of offense.
We have hired to fix the conditioning and strength of the team, why not get that big name for offense?

Nice to have some info.  If you would, let us know if Michigan is bringing in someone specifically for recruiting please.  Here's my top choice if available from the SEC:

According to his bio on the ND site, he has never been a "dedicated" special teams coordinator: he has always had responsibility for at least one other area as well. Also, he has not coached special teams since 2011. Hard to see a guy with his resume, which includes titles such as co-DC and assistant head coach, coming to just coach special teams, though perhaps being both recruiting coordinator and special teams coordinator at his alma mater would do the trick.

So we're banking on Enos being the offensive savior and bringing in a bunch of misc defensive guys...? Not the types of off-season moves many of us expected..or hoped for.

right guys to get the recruiting ship righted in addition to the Offense. OSU is loaded AND they are still landing players that UM has pushed hard to land at key positions (Grant, Ruckert, perhaps Friday). Urban has transplanted the SEC recruiting methods to Columbus and we need to close the gap. Plu, Elston has a great reputation with other coaches in the MW so he must be a strong beyond the recruiting.

The offense produced very little during those times so the defense had many quick turnarounds and I think the failure on offense caused fatigue. Hence, the new S&C plus the offensive rumblings.

would to put together an offensive staff with one coordinator and a clear vision of what they want to do/be as an offense and that will help recruiting on its own.

Right now, it's a mess and higher ranking kids can see it as a cluster that needs to get worked out before they come here.

Heck, no one knows what's happening, is Drevno staying?  Is Drevno going to be O Line only?  Is Pep leaving, is Enos going to call plays?  A lot of questions and not too many answers.

Honestly if Enos is the passing coordinator and Drevno is the run game coordinator it could work. If Drevno focused more on OL, I think he is a valuable staff member. Let them give input but then Harbaugh should call the plays.

Gruden interested in Pep.

Reason #2 for being happy happy that Gruden was hired.

1. Lions can't hire him.

2. Move Pep out.

TBH, I can't tell if Pep was the problem, but really want a shakeup on offensive side of the ball like most fans.

who would stick around for long. Nothing that he said, but he just seemed to me to be an NFL guy who was talking a step back to get away from the Browns. A wise move for him, but I'd rather replace him with someone that will stick around for awhile. That matters in recruiting, if nothing else.

Looks like Coach is trying to strengthen recruiting. I agree with the philosophy, esp when you have the main people on each side of the ball in place (Harbaugh and Brown). It's just too bad it seems he's realizing that in his 3rd year. Saban and Meyer hit the ground running after having success with recruiting at their other schools

I hope this is true and agree. I know everyone hates Drevno, but he has shown he can put together lines. Add Enos and with Harbaugh you are good. D is with Brown so that is fine. The rest need to be decent coaches and badass recruiters.
