MBB Win in Iowa City POSBANG

Submitted by FrankMurphy on

Remember our basketball team? The one that, in the past five years, has quietly produced two Big Ten championships, a National Championship Game appearance, a Final Four appearance, an Elite Eight appearance, a Sweet Sixteen appearance, and a national player of the year? They just won their sixth straight. GO BLUE.

I thought MAAR played really well, giving Michigan some nice drives to the hoop and some aggressiveness when Iowa threatened to make it a game.  This offense moves so much better when they can get going toward the hoop, and Matthews, MAAR, and even Simpson to an extent are all capable of driving to the hoop and drawing in defenders.

The second half probably requires a bit of a chat, but it was a nice win - the first in Iowa City in, what, about six years now? The Big Ten slate is grueling for the most part, but this team seems to be up to it in early returns, if you will, and that will hopefully carry this board for a bit.

This team is quietly looking pretty darn good.  Only real head scratcher is the loss to LSU.  Yes the loss to OSU sucks considering we were crushing them in the first half, but OSU is a surprisingly good team so a road loss there isn't killer.  Really like how the freshman class is progressing, and if Simpson can keep this up that shores up the only real weakness on this team.

Sophomores: excellent development during the past year. Freshmen: fun mixture of raw talent, swag, & meaningful contributions. Add the 5 commits arriving next year - exciting.

Player improvement is a Beilein specialty. Simpson is not only much improved from last season, he's much improved from earlier this season. Livers is a baller and should continue stealing Duncan's minutes like he did tonight. Mo is still rusty from the injury, but look at Teske and his development - still has a ways to go offensively, but his interior D is legit. MAAR is the calming influence and Matthews is an asset on both ends. I like this team and its future.

JB has caught up to MSU. Granted MSU is the best team in the country but in the last 5-7 years, it's even. JB has won B1G titles, BTT, went to S16 multiple times, 2 E8 appearance, a F4 appearance and a NC appearance. He's right there with Izzo.

Also, JB has more players drafted in the last 8 years than Izzo.

Maybe Davis but he would have two more years after Mo left so wouldn’t make sense for him to leave. Originally I thought Watson but he’s been playing too. I don’t look at the depth chart and see anyone leaving.

Teske looks waayyy better than last year, it's amazing. Also I'm really excited by Livers, he has a shot to be good. This helped significantly with yesterday's loss and things look good. Go Blue!

Tonight's game was a great cure for the football woes! Team was firing on (most) cylinders and was a pleasure to watch. What's nice, too, is that this doesn't feel like a team that must live and die with the three-ball. Matthews and Rahk were slashing, albeit against a bad team, and Teske showed a nice midrange game. Lowers our team variance a bit, and that's a good thing. If I'm in charge, Livers starts. We're a Sweet 16 team given the right matchups....

Especially with this young team.  Livers, Poole, Matthews, X and MAAR.  Tons of fun to watch.  Teske works hard.  Robinson's touch seems to be back.  Wagner is an enigma.  Love Beilein!!

GO BLUE!!
