Absolutely horrible effort today.  Offense didn’t show up.  Hasn’t really since the Purdue game.

How’s that not a travel on Happ, rolling over on the floor with the ball?

01/13/2019 - 10:56pm If you like Michigan…

If you like Michigan basketball, there is no better content than that provided by Brendan Quinn at The Athletic.  Worth the price alone.  The new football guy is okay, and they have some decent national guys (Seth Davis puts out a ton of content for college hoops and Stewart Mandel does the same for college football).  Got some good Red Wings coverage as well, if you’re into that.  And Faux Pelini does a weekly column that’s usually pretty funny as well.

For a game whose outcome was basically decided, the end of this game couldn’t possibly take longer.

01/10/2019 - 9:22pm I thought defense travels,…

I thought defense travels, but I don’t think Michigan’s defense made the trip.  Illinois shooting 50% overall and 42% from 3.  Illinois.

01/07/2019 - 8:22pm Probably having this game on…

Probably having this game on a Monday night, after the holiday season is over and a couple thousand miles from either campus (after fans had to pay for travel to bowl games already) isn’t the best idea.  Why this game isn’t on a Saturday night is stupid.

Part of it was that we had a basketball game scheduled at the same time.  Just got back from that, otherwise I’d have been at LCA.

12/29/2018 - 4:15pm Slow your roll on Bo - he…

Slow your roll on Bo - he won/shared 13 Big Ten titles in 21 seasons.  So, basically he'd win the title 2 out of every 3 years.  Yes, he pooped the bed in the Rose Bowl, but Harbaugh hasn't sniffed a Big Ten title yet - hell, he hasn't even made the title game.

Also, Bo beat Ohio State more than he lost to them.

It’s been time for basketball since 2013.

If we were offered a trade of Scott Frost and his staff at Nebraska for Harbaugh and his staff, I would take that in a heartbeat.

Does Temple want to reconsider about Don Brown?  Pretty please???!!

Beilein and his staff should be getting paid a helluva lot more than Harbaugh and his staff, that’s for damn sure.

I hope the Jets offer Harbaugh $40,000,000 per year or something that insane like that.  Another disappointing football season.

Michigan’s coaching staff is nowhere near good enough for us to be an elite program.

This coaching staff has no idea about clock management.  None.  They fucked up at the end of the half against Indiana and I see that they haven’t improved.

Our defense is depleted but come on, man.  Florida’s offense is trash and we’re making them look great.

12/29/2018 - 1:14pm I’ve criticized the coaches…

I’ve criticized the coaches a few times today but gotta give them credit there - gave the punter too much tine on the first punt and he hit a bomb pinning us at the 5.  Coaches went after him there so that he didn’t have all day.

Besides LSU, who wasted incredible WR talent for years, is there another program with as much talent at WR that we have with DPJ, Black and Nico, that absolutely refuses to use it as an advantage consistently?

All of them that don the maize and blue!  Merry Christmas!

12/20/2018 - 2:00pm Bowls don’t matter any…

Bowls don’t matter any longer for a few reasons:

1) The playoff, obviously.

2) Too many bowls.  41 bowls?  Insane.

3) 6 win teams in the bowls.  Bowls used to be a reward for a good season.  Now they are not.  6 and 7 win seasons are not good.

They should expand the playoff to 8.  Get rid of conference championship games and play first round games on campus the week that used to be for conference championships.

Require 8 wins against FBS opponents to qualify for a bowl.  Eliminate all bowls before Christmas.  Play bowl games from December 36 to December 31.  I may even let the first round playoff losers qualify for a bowl.  Play the playoff semis on January 1 and the title game a week later (preferably on a Saturday night).

Thanks for this, Matt.  Always appreciate your updates on hoops’ recruiting.

12/09/2018 - 2:50pm I disagree about moral…

I disagree about moral compass.  Is it a moral dilemma to decide whether or not to give kids money to come to your school to play football?  If so, why?  Because the archaic NCAA says you can’t do it?  Most of the allegations are not against the law; they are against NCAA rules.  The NCAA either chooses to ignore them or has no real power to investigate and punish (or both).  And I know that “laws” and “morals” are not the same thing, but we’re talking about paying kids to play football - not about stealing or killing someone or something that would be a real moral dilemma.

Although I’d like to consider Michigan above this, it is frustrating to know this goes on with no repercussions, while we took a hit for stretching too much.

So I can understand when people say we should do it too.  I don’t necessarily agree, but I certainly understand the reasoning and don’t think they are amoral for thinking it.

12/06/2018 - 9:45pm Yes.  Maybe not quite to the…

Yes.  Maybe not quite to the level of football and basketball, but close.  Try to get to a game or two at Yost every year and used to go to the GLI often when it was at the Joe.  Follow the Michigan Hockey account on Twitter to keep tabs on games when not on TV.  Haven’t shelled out to watch a game on BTN+ or anything.

12/06/2018 - 11:46am My pipe dream would be to…

My pipe dream would be to eliminate some teams from Division I (FBS) status in football.  Why is EMU competing in the same division as Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, etc in football?  They have no hope of winning a title and their program isn’t on the same level.

I’d love to see there be 80 teams, divided evenly into 8 conferences.  With a 10 team conference, you can play a true round robin of 9 games and still have 3 non-conference games.

Get rid of conference championship games and have an 8 team playoff with each conference champ.

The week that would normally be for conference championships would be the first round of the playoff - and play them at campus sites of the higher seed (seeding can be done by a committee or by some formula).

Get rid of all bowls before Christmas and require teams to have 8 wins against FBS schools to qualify for a bowl (can drop to 7 only if necessary to fill a bowl slot).

This will knock the total number of teams eligible for bowls down to around 20 to 30 - but that includes the playoff teams.  Thus, we need 12-15 bowls.

Allow the first round playoff losers to play in a bowl.  The bowls will be from December 26 to December 31.

The playoff semifinals will be played on January 1.

The championship game is played the next Saturday night that is at least a week after Janauary 1 (so if January 1 is a Saturday, play the championship game on Saturday January 8; but if January 1 is a Monday, then play the championship game on Saturday January 13, to give them at least a week between games).

The bowl games can be worked into the semis and championship, or be completely separate.

Livers was getting so much better but disappeared in these 2 Big Ten games.  Need him to pick it back up.  Need a few cupcake games now to get us working on some depth.

Offense is not great.  Depth is not great.  There are definitely things to work on.

What the fuck, offense?  Just let Zavier chuck up 3s????!!!!

12/03/2018 - 5:16pm The bowl game itself isn't…

The bowl game itself isn't meaningless, per se (although most are - when the heck did there get to be 40+ bowls???), but the fact that we're playing a team that we played last year, and also played in a bowl just 3 years ago (2016 Citrus Bowl), and is probably overrated (how they beat LSU is beyond me - but they've lost to both Kentucky and Missouri), and the game is in the frickin' Peach Bowl (when did they decide that was an historic bowl) and on the same day as the 2 semifinal games, I think that is what's driving the "who cares" crowd.  And I don't blame them.  It's a no-win situation for Michigan.  Win and who cares - everyone will say Florida was overrated and we should have beaten them.  Lose and then we hear the Harbaugh-haters with the same old lines about his inability to win big games, blah, blah, blah.

12/03/2018 - 5:11pm The Purdue game had some…

The Purdue game had some empty seats (although the upper sections did fill in as the game went on), but by the same token, I was pleasantly surprised that the Wednesday night game against UNC - a 9:30 tip, mind you - was packed and the crowd was as loud as I can ever remember Crisler, and I was a freshmen back when the Fab 5 came in and we had some decent crowds back then (although still had empty seats, even then for a lot of games).

12/02/2018 - 4:23pm Good exposure?  It’s being…

Good exposure?  It’s being played on the same day as the playoff games.  No one will be talking about it.

Yeah - like Alabama last year ... oh wait.

12/02/2018 - 4:19pm January 1 is still a college…

January 1 is still a college football holiday.  If not in the playoffs, playing on Dec 29 is garbage.  There will be 0 discussion about our bowl because the 2 playoff games later that day will overshadow it.  I suppose that could be a good thing if we lose.

12/02/2018 - 4:17pm Touché.

Touché.

12/02/2018 - 4:07pm I can say that this is the…

I can say that this is the most unexcited (is that a word?) I’ve ever been for a Michigan bowl game involving a top 10 Michigan team.  I don’t care that it’s a Super Six bowl or whatever - Peach Bowl means nothing.  It’s not on January 1 and it’s against an opponent who seems almost like a conference opponent with as many times as we seem to play them.

12/01/2018 - 10:45pm I thought that OSU must have…

I thought that OSU must have found themselves last week and would come out and blow the doors off Northwestern.  Hasn’t happened and it makes me wonder how in the hell did we lose to OSU?  In every other game this year they have looked very beatable, including tonight.  Just makes last week’s loss feel even worse.  Thank God for John Beilein to save my sanity.

That video was sweet.  It had always been just Jalen narrating it but they added Juwan, Tim Hardaway and Moe to it and debuted that one last night.  Loved everything about it!  And the game was outstanding.  Love this team because they play so damn hard and together.
