Curious what the board thinks.

Who's taking the first snap at Notre Dame next September 2018?

I really don't know. I am not all over the Patterson bandwagon. I also don't know how much the concussion affected Peters. I also remember Brown's effusive praise of McCaffrey. I believe that JH will still follow meritocracy, to some degree.

My current preference is Peters, McAffrey, and then Shae.  It is hard for me to believe that Patterson will outshine highly touted recruits in Peters and McAffrey.

"It is hard for me to believe that Patterson will outshine highly touted recruits in Peters and McAffrey."

You do realize that Patterson was a higher rated recruit than either and that Harbaugh had initially offered and pursued Shea before he chose Mississippi.  I am not saying that Patterson will win the job, but the logic against Shea can't be because Brandon and Dylan are highly touted recruits.

Depends. If our OLine can’t pass pro....I predict Baker-May...I mean Shea Patterson will start. I think we will need the mobility.
If we can pass decent...I think Peters will have better command of what we’ve been trying to do.
Be interesting to see how the play book changes when each guy is on the field.

PS-Don Brown has his money on DMac. Just sayin

After our OL does its "olé" with pass rushers, Peters, Patterson, and McCaffrey will all be on the sidelines or in the hospital, leaving the job up to Doyle.

We know nothing on Patterson’s eligibility next year, Peters, if he continues to improve, and with his grasp of the offense, I’d have to think he’s going be starting vs ND next year. He was looking very comfortably and was playing good vs Wisconsin before his injury, arguably the best defense we have seen all year. He’s not going to give up QB1 easily

IMO, I'll take Brandon Peters.I think Shea has slightly more natural talent than the other two, but BP has 2 years in this offense that will be hard for Shea to overcome.

Either way, it's nice to have a stocked cupboard of QBs for the first time since JH arrived and next year the offense will be taken as far as the O-Line can develop.

for great offensive line play. The wideout position should be stronger. If so then I will say BP because of playbook experience and what he showed in limited game action. Looking forward to the bowl game action and next season to see how this all play's out. Go Blue!!!

without really meaning to do so but the quality depth is going to be a wonderful thing. Cannot think of the last season we've had a qb play from season's beginning to season's end, a condition which has grown over the years with the qb becoming such an integral part of so many ground games today. The longer they are under his training, the better they will become and that competition is going to be so damn healthy.

why not both? I could see Harbaugh using both to utilize each strength in certain situations. That being said, I really like Peters to start. It's going to be interesting in south bend next season.

Brandon Peters because I will root for the homegrown kid. It should be fun and hopefully, it's iron sharpening iron. We need at least two good quarterbacks. I will root like hell for whoever wins the starting job when he takes the field.

- Knows the system and playbook

- Can make all of the throws

- Doesn't make mistakes, turnovers

- Athletic enough to get the ball to playmakers at TB, FB, TE and WR

I do think that Shea Patterson, Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton will push Peterson extremely hard.

I also do not believe it is wise to underestimate the talent Michigan's garnered in both McCaffrey and Milton for any future QB race.

Patterson. But is anyone concerned about his completion percentage and number of turnovers? His vision and agility and risk taking are big time. He had an injury though.

I really hope that Harbaugh takes the reigns off Peters against South Carolina if for nothing less than to really see what the kid can do.  I'm not saying Peters should be overly aggressive and obviously the win comes first but I'd really like to see Peters throw the ball around 25 times with some advanced route concepts and throws to stretch the field.  If he performs then its really going to spring board him into the 2018 season.  If he doesn't then we all know why Patterson was brought in.

But to answer the OP.  I'm really hoping Peters takes a big leap forward and becomes a real player but I still think Shea is going to be the guy in 2018.

I think the biggest screw up this year by the coaching staff was having O'Korn above Peters on the depth chart, which leads me to believe that for whatever reason they aren't accurately able to evaluate Peters in practice, maybe because of some sort of personality conflict, who knows.

Regardless, while I generally have faith in this coaching staff, what I really don't want to hear from them is how Peters lost out in practice again, but don't worry, this time they got it right, especially since what little I've seen of Patterson's game was not impressive.

It’s almost comical that some of the comments I’ve read today focus on Patterson’s inaccuracies. The kid completed 64% of his passes against much tougher defenses, and put up a QB rating of 150+. I like Peters, I think he’ll be a really good one, but there’s absolutely no comparison. Against significantly weaker defenses, Peters only managed a 56-57 completion %. Patterson has that “IT” factor, which as you will see, will permeate throughout the team.

I mean, I get that people love their own guy, but it is odd. For whatever reasons, Peters couldn’t beat out JOK. When he did play, he was average at absolute best and prob below average with what seemed like 1/100th of the playbook. I think he can be good, but people act like he was NFLTom Brady when he came in.

OK, did you actually watch the video? Because the majority of Patterson's completions in that game were just throws out to the flat. If half of Michigan's passing attempts were laterals, our QBs would probably have significantly better numbers.

edit to add: Sorry, I got confused about which thread I was replying to, my entire assesment of Patterson is based on the video of the Auburn game that Brian posted. I thought Patterson looked bad. I don't care what he was recruited as, it wasn't an impressive preformance. I'd love to be wrong about the guy, and if somebody wants to pick a game where Patterson looks amazing, I'll watch it for balance.
