Curious what the board thinks.

Who's taking the first snap at Notre Dame next September 2018?

Peters. The engine started turning over in the Wisconsin game. And I have a sneaky feeling that the NCAA doesn't feel like they owe Harbaugh any favors. If Peters can keep his head screwed on, he'll give us another win in picturesque South Bend.

on the outcome.  Several of the transferring players (rising juniors) are working with an attorney regarding their appeal and a few seem to think that the NCAA is going to allow them to play immediately.

This is an excerpt from another article on MGoBlog, that referenced an interview of Deontay Anderson by Andrew Vailliencourt

---Although not officially declared eligible yet for next season, Anderson is highly confident that he will be cleared for next season — as well as both Patterson and Jefferson. The three share a lawyer.

“I’m very optimistic about it,” Anderson said. “We’re still waiting to hear from the NCAA, but they’ve been on our side the last couple weeks about it, so I don’t have any doubt in my mind.”---

The NCAA has a strong interest in facilitating transfers out of dirty programs.  Allowing athletes to immediately play elsewhere is good for the athletes, it enhances the effect of NCAA sanctions, and the only party even arguably harmed is the one least likely to have valid recourse against the NCAA.  I expect the transferring players wil get their eligibility.

Probably going to wait until we see Peters again in the Bowl game. But almost assuredly Peters or Patterson. my tentative guess is still Peters though. Patterson is electrifying but does have some really bad moments (Alabama, Cal). Tentative edge for Peters due to experience in Harbaugh offense but Patterson could easily be the starter

I think on paper, Patterson was brought in with a legitimate shot to win the starting job.  As in, he was told that, and honestly so.

But in terms of expectations I think his primary purpose is to be a spooky in Peters' rear view mirror so he doesn't get QB Royalty Syndrome.  I.e., his main value is to make Peters a better QB in case McCaffery can't close the gap.

is that Harbaugh isn't going to get caught behind the 8 ball with QB's again. He is going to keep pursuing the best players to make his team better and more competitive. We should be happy we have a coach that is going out and getting stuff done and is never ready to say "this team is the best it can be".

Now its gonna be fun!  Back to the submarine silence next fall.  However, I can't get Don Brown's McCaffrey comments out of my head and remember him always near Harbaugh on the sidelines.  My guess is Patterson is an upgrade over Rudock, Peters a total upgrade over Rudock, Speight and O'Korn, but for some reason think McCaffrey is Harbaugh's next Luck.  Get a hunch, bet a bunch!!

If Peters wins it I bet he goes to the draft, based on a couple assumptions. If Shea is eligible, and there isn't something like a bigtime injury, the winner may well end up being a top 5 QB next year.

Then each gets 1 year to ball out win 3 straight titles and everyone leaves happy.

I cant believe how many people here are saying Peters. Shea Patterson is not some average QB. He is not transfering somewhere to not start.

There is not enough evidence for Peters to be the guy.

Sidenote: I was surprised when Speight transferred because I would have put it 75% Speight 25% Peters to start next year. I think Speight transferred because of Patterson not Peters.

I'm going with the illogical plan by JH to create almost two different offenses - Shea runs a hurry up, spread offense while Peters runs a methodical, heavyset offense. He loves to create unique sets and varied game plans each week and now he gets to challenge opposing DCs with preparation for 2 different offenses. Primary offense is the heavyset while Shea runs the quickstrike in key moments. Won't happen, but man it would be fun to watch.

makes me doubt that he can take the job from Peters. He has serious accuracy issues, plus M's style of play calling is much more demanding. The QB must make reads, adjust plays, notify the team, and execute. With almost two years in the system, Peters clearly has a leg up in that department.

Peters will be 2+ years into the Harbuagh offense, with several starts under his belt.  He'll have had more of a chance to develop chemistry with the receivers.  He's taller, which gives him a slight edge in a pocket-based passing offense.  And I think his eventual ceiling is at least as good as Patterson's.  Therefore, I think Peters is more likely to start.

Either way, we should have a fantastic group of QBs if we can hang onto everybody.

Depends on if the O line can protect decently or not. I think Patterson and his mobility will win the starting role by default if the protection doesn't improve.

I believe Patterson is the better QB at this minute. I am making a big assumption that he will gain command of the offense by the time fall camp begins. If so, Patterson gives this team the best chance of success. However, I agree with you on the fact that the offensive line has to take a big step forward in pass protection. Also, the LT position scares me to death right now. I guess Harbaugh and staff will have January-September 1 to get it squared away.

Depth Chart:

1: Peters

2: Patterson

3: McCaffrey

4: Milton (RS)

I'm not thrilled with the Patterson signing. He adds depth but don't see him taking us over the top
