Report: Jimbo Fisher to A&M Official

Submitted by buddha on

Was just listening to Bob Ley and he reported Fisher has "officially" left FSU for A&M. Craziness.

Yes, the difference is that Harbaugh was not just comiing home to Michigan, he was coming home to Ann Arbor where he grew up.

He talks about his time growing up in Ann Arbor far more often than he talks about his time as a player at Michigan.

Every year, there’s supposedly going to be a school that rises up with a $10 million-a-year offer to poach a top coach, like the Texas/Saban rumors of last season. Did A&M finally do it? Edit: Just saw maybe 10 years, $75 million. Yowza. Maybe $80 million plus even more with incentives. Deep pockets are good pockets.

Jimbo is just putting the finishing touches on the understanding to be reached with the College Station police department---first call to athletic department, faulty memories.....and the rest of the understanding established in.Tallahassee

This year is just astonishing.  Of all the Texas schools not named "Texas," Texas A&M is probably the best.  Plus, they have Reveille:

The first dog I ever had was a rough collie like Reveille.  Reveille has been a rough collie since 1966, according to Wikipedia.

Collies are wonderful dogs.  They're kinda nuts, but they're wonderful dogs.

I can second this.  Those dogs (collies) are crazy busy dogs.  Mine was a "dump off" where someone dropped her on a road side and drove off when she was a 2 month old puppy.  One of my fellow soccer coaches found her and tried to keep her but she decided that the family tea cup poodle was a chew toy and chased it through the house..  After several things knocked off tables and all, he asked me to find it a home and she never left.  Fortunately I own 6 acres of woods as a back yard and she gets her exercise and play time chasing squirrels, possums and all.  She has a possum that she catches every day and brings home.  I drag her in, the possum escapes, repeat the next day...  Goofy dog...

Border collies are really smart dogs.  They're wonderful.  If your dog is good at catching groundhogs, I'd like to rent her for summers in WV.  She can have the added enjoyment of chasing beef critters around.

I had a Shetland Sheepdog -- looks like a collie, but smaller -- for 17 years.  That was one crazy dog, but I loved him.  After his passing my wife got a damn Persian cat, and suddenly micro-fuzz cat hair was everywhere.  That cat lasted 16 years.

Get yourself a Yorkie and Poodle mix. My son named our 15 -18" giant Funzo the Barbarian. Think it had something to do with Sesame Street. But that was the mole killingest dog I've ever seen. He'd merely catch a glimpse out of his periphreal and he was gone. Dirt flying, nose protruding further and further south, he would not let up until he caught that sucker. We were mole free and had the nicest lawn on the road for years. He would pull that critter out of the hole and stand there with what appeared to be a smile on his face, knowing Dad was going to praise him. Miss that little sucker, but if you really are looking for a ground mole killer, pick up one of these half breeds. Tough too. Can take the abuse of a young boy growing up from age 5 through 18.

Fascinating and fun . . . to watch from a distance. I agree with the comments about how FSU fans and possibly admin made the situation intolerable for Jimbo.

As regards Michigan, I am staunch supporter of patience, and giving Jim Harbaugh the time to succeed. Really looking forward to next year, and beyond. And it makes me more irritated to hear of the "unacceptable" posts from so-called Michigan fans. Be careful what you wish for.

Given the number of HC spots opening up at big-time P5 programs, it's amazing that the Cyclones were able to keep Matt Campbell in Ames.

I hope all the crazy fans that say fire Harbaugh see how fast stuff can spiral out of control. Everybody keeps saying FSU will be fine but they were not doing very good when Jimbo took over. Michigan on the other hand is a few inches, plays, and good/bad/no calls away from being back. I told everybody at the start of the year how much faster we were going to be as a team. Now we are being referenced as a defense with great team speed. Think to yourself how long it's been since u heard that. We are so damn close! I cannot wait to see how we do in our bowl game offensively. With the team behind Peters his confidence should grow and his play should improve with it. Good things are coming. I imagine a lot of the 3* we have are in for a bump as well within the next month or so.

That would be sweet!  Go ahead FSU, just offer him 10 million a year.  You see the writing on the wall, outstanding record at OSU, 6-0 against your rival, and only lost 2 regular season B10 games.  What more to prove?  You'll be happy at FSU.

I don’t get the people trashing Fisher for making this move. First off, Florida and Texassre both elite recruiting grounds. Fisher won’t even need to leave the state if he doesnt want to. Doak walker stadium and Kyle field are not much difference at all, if anything Kyle field may be a bit louder. The facilities at A&M are just as good as they are at FSU and they have a football building. Good coaches can do amazing things. In a couple years, Jimbo will have A&M competing with the big dogs in the SEC. If I were the AD at FSU, I would back up the brinks truck to the residence of one Bob Stoops. Stoops is too young to have retired from coaching, and he is a really good coach. I am not sold on Willie Taggert. Taggert runs a system similar to the previous Oregon head coaches, and he barely qualified for a bowl game. FSU is a top level job, I would target coaches with big time results. Willie may end up doing big things, and so wish him the best, but FSU should look around before making a quick decision.

It's pretty strange that a guy with his record and age ("only" 57) hasn't been a target for Tennessee. Seems like he'd be an obvious fit for FSU, especially since he's been an assistant in Florida (under Spurrier) and would presumably still have some feel for the state.

Wow, ran a national championship winning coach out of town after one bad year when you lose your starting QB in the opening game.

I have a feeling that FSU fans are going to be regretting this by around late September - early October next Fall. FSU is a great job but a lot of your big time candidates are already taken.

8-8 against the ACC over two seasons, attendance way down (trails an always-full TAMU by nearly 20,000), alienated everybody with his whiny demans (including that the alumni org give all of its money to football). Working the rumor mill for raises year in, year out. Lots of people in Tally, including--now--his players happy to see him go. And after having his wife humiliate him with a UF gymrat he was happy to go.

EDIT: This ESPN story begins to reveal the nuances. Check out the Tally Democrat for four or five days of increasing disgust with the guy:

"In his wake, Fisher left a parade of hurt feelings, bad blood and frustrated administrators, boosters and staff, who felt they could never do quite enough to keep their head coach happy. In the end, a losing season and another round of demands proved too much, and Fisher's final game of chicken in Tallahassee ended with such devastating damage, that there was no sense in attempting repair.
In eight years as head coach, Fisher had a working relationship with athletic director Stan Wilcox, but Fisher's relationship with Seminole Boosters president Andy Miller was strained by Fisher's constant demands. The problem, however, was more that Fisher had done little to gain allies over the years, and when the power dynamic shifted this season, few people were willing to stick up for the coach."

With Texas struggling to matter in a conference that is struggling to matter, a resurgent A&M playing in the SEC could attract ALL of the top Texas High School talent. Texas remains one of the preeminent sources of football talent in the country. Texas already has the problem that no defensive players want to go there because no one plays defense in the Big 12. If A&M starts winning under Fisher and he starts keeping the top Texas talent home to College Station, A&M has massive potential.
