12/03/2018 - 11:19pm Since they found their last…

Since they found their last guy via Google, I’m fairly sure this search was a more thorough one. And they’ve made good hires before, including Dave Clawson and Dino Babers back to back.

12/03/2018 - 11:16pm Objection: Relevance?

Objection: Relevance?

12/03/2018 - 3:01pm The one thing I’d watch for,…

The one thing I’d watch for, honestly, if JayBaugh. One of the indictments of Petrino this year was the number of relatives on his staff. Sean Snyder will not get the K-State job despite essentially running that program’s day to day for a while. I don’t think Jay is the equivalent of Jeff Bowden or Jay Paterno, but history does seem to indicate he may need to spread his wings outside the program to be taken seriously.

12/03/2018 - 2:39pm If Haskins leaves? Then yes.

If Haskins leaves? Then yes.

11/30/2018 - 7:46pm He did a fine job. But…

He did a fine job. But Maryland’s maybe the best job currently available, and the school shouldn’t settle when there are better candidates available. FWIW, I don’t think that’s Locksley, but he seems to have backers there.

11/30/2018 - 2:06pm He had been at San Jose…

He had been at San Jose briefly with Al Borges but has been out for a couple of years.

speculation is out there that McElwain is a “serious candidate” for the Central job.

11/29/2018 - 12:20pm I think part of it is that…

I think part of it is that the Herm experiment was not the disaster a lot of people assumed it would be (though he ultimately produced a season similar to Todd Graham in year one). In the Miles case, he was friends with the AD. At Carolina, it seems to be booster driven familiarity.

11/27/2018 - 4:38pm I’d actually be interested…

I’d actually be interested in bringing in Tee Martin if McElwain moves on, as he’s a known recruiter.

11/27/2018 - 1:45pm I wouldn’t be betting on…

I wouldn’t be betting on Karlifitis yet. That Brohm hasn’t left yet seems to indicate he may at least stay through the early signing period.

11/26/2018 - 2:21pm That’s a dark turn that…

That’s a dark turn that literally no one wants. We’d be rightfully morally castigated for that hire. I’d rather go down honorably than hire anyone from that Baylor staff, let alone the guy at the head of it. You’d be declaring war on the female population of campus.

11/26/2018 - 2:17pm By by every account, Moore…

By by every account, Moore and Washington have been killing it. About the only one who might be wanting is McElwain, which may take care of itself during this hiring cycle

11/26/2018 - 11:26am Now that he’s available, I…

Now that he’s available, I would at least approach Kliff Kingsbury about potentially getting him here for a week or two to download his brain for both offensive concepts and about his experiences with the defensive schemes that worked best to counter those concepts.

11/23/2018 - 5:35pm First memory was hearing…

First memory was hearing everything that happened after Ohio State’s go ahead score in 88, because I, a seven year old, was upset they were going to lose. Then going to the 89 game with my dad the next year to see a title clincher.

11/19/2018 - 12:43pm All of this may have been…

All of this may have been said about Weis when he went there, and that was the worst P5 hire of this decade by miles, pun not intended. It’s a bad job for many reasons, and Miles doesn’t offer anything remarkable tactically on either side of the ball. He probably will raise their floor somewhat, but you could argue Beatty finally managed to do that this year. If K-State moves on as well, maybe they can be the top team in that state, but I don’t see this leading them to breaking into the first division of the Big 12.

10/16/2018 - 2:48pm The BG search would seem to…

The BG search would seem to be the ultimate argument for why you hire a search firm.

10/10/2018 - 8:22pm You’ll have an opening on…

You’ll have an opening on the other side, though that would seem spoken for. Maybe go into it with an open competition in the spring with the knowledge he could play elsewhere if it’s clear it’s Mayfield’s job.

09/04/2018 - 5:17pm I think it’s a reasonable…

I think it’s a reasonable reaction to the other conference games and the level of opponents.

For me, this season turns on the Northwestern game. It’s on the road. By that time, both teams will be ranked. If that streak was going to be broken this year, that would be the optimal opportunity, given the level of crowd hostility and the likelihood that UM will have superior talent at most positions. A win, and you’re potentially set up for a decent October run through the gauntlet. A loss, and serious questions need to be answered.

08/17/2018 - 1:55pm Last year they still won…

Last year they still won despite all that. That was the year to get them

08/16/2018 - 6:24pm Transcription is difficult,…

Transcription is difficult, time consuming work. It’s not pleasant. But if someone has time on their hands and wants to do it to hop the site, that’s fine.

As to your opinions of Brian’s hiring and firing priorities, kindly F off.

07/02/2018 - 5:31pm Bagel City?

Bagel City?

07/02/2018 - 5:00pm I live in Vegas, and have…

I live in Vegas, and have for about theee years.

Pros: cost of living is pretty low, as are home prices. Restaurants are good, both at the high end and in terms of affordable quality for date nights. You have cheap flights in from everywhere. The existence of air conditioning.

con: Losing the ability to walk outside comfortably for four to five months. As a resident and an introvert, the Strip, especially in weekends, and especially on fight/UFC weekends, is a nightmare.

06/14/2018 - 3:46pm Essentially it's a weight…

Essentially it's a weight loss thing. My sister-in-law has said she allows herself to cheat, especially since she started ketosis. We do do dessert a lot, so I think it will help both of us to cut that out.

05/31/2018 - 3:43pm FWIW

The night game on ABC is the Orlando one (Bama/Louisville), but since the other game is in Atlanta, I suppose both are in play.

05/26/2018 - 5:04pm Since living in Vegas

I’ve only placed, and won, one bet on CFB. That was Bama over A&M, which was the same day as the thing which shall not be spoken of against State.

05/23/2018 - 3:10pm The league tolerated

Actual evil-doer Donald Sterling for decades, and seems fine with Fredo adjacent jazzman James Dolan owning a team in its largest market. It ain’t happening.

05/17/2018 - 11:43pm One point on the 4-8 year

Bill C has regularly noted that the advanced stats indicated Norte Dame’s record should have been closer to 8-4 that year, as they pretty much lost every close game they played, including one in a literal hurricane.

05/14/2018 - 7:31pm Not most

Just two, though those guys were both top 10 picks

04/26/2018 - 12:56pm Also, which Martin family?

Is it the Bill Martin family? The Mike Martin family? Some other prominent Martin family?

04/20/2018 - 1:36pm There's only one protected crossover

in the conference, the Old Oaken Bucket game between the Indiana schools. For whatever reason, Wisconsin is simply on our schedule a lot in this immediate scheduling period after missing the entire Hoke era and Michigan in 2015.

04/20/2018 - 1:32pm That list includes the #Karma game

Where Wisconsin lost in dubious circumstances in 2012 and Jen Beilema posted #Karma right after.

04/19/2018 - 3:21pm One potential one

MSU only gets Wisconsin once, at the Trohl Center

04/16/2018 - 1:21pm 2015

You get the cultural shift in the spring and fall camp, the Utah game, followed by the upswing of the home games, including the shut out streak. Then you get the thing that happend, and the recovery/close game against Minnesota where Speight had to come in and save the game. You get the Indiana and PSU games and then the recovery after OSU/the Mattison transition taking over from Durkin and sending the team out on a high note.

04/15/2018 - 8:31pm He’s underrated in Se7en

He plus against type as the put-upon lieutenant type, no big speeches or anger, really.

04/14/2018 - 1:59pm He’s probably never going to be drafted higher

A lot of his limitations defensively are simply issues of athleticism which aren’t going to change at the collegiate level.

04/06/2018 - 7:58pm Feel like

It'll be AJ-Nakamura and Asuka-Flair that get remembered.

04/06/2018 - 7:43pm You're right about the on-paper situation

My concern would be they go with Brock-Reigns last, and that they're booed out of the building because it's clear Brock's heading for the exit and Reigns is, well, Reigns. They were able to save Wrestlemania 20 because they had the feel-good ending in the bag. Maybe they go with a Styles-Nakamura main to offset that.

04/06/2018 - 5:03pm I kind of figure where this might go but anyways...

Is there any possibility, should he be cleared, that Newsome finds his way to RT? Might be a way to mitigate loss of mobility to put him at the more traditional masher position.

04/05/2018 - 7:32pm I've covered HS football in Vegas the last couple of years

And, until they adjusted the league structure after this season, Bishop Gorman, with multiple D-1 players and multi-million dollar facilities, has played teams that don't win a game all year, or trade off wins annually with other awful teams. I've heard administrators talk about playing Gorman in the press box as simply something to endure for a week.

04/05/2018 - 5:43pm It's possible

But there's plenty of fields to practice on in Southern California where spring practice isn't going on.

04/05/2018 - 5:37pm Threet was also a Sophomore

Speight has one year, and his likely successor (should he go there) is already on the roster. Hell, he might just start the season, with DTR coming on later, similar to what SC did with Max Browne/San Darnold (they have Oklahoma in Norman on the schedule in week 2).

04/05/2018 - 5:33pm DTR

Started for one season at Gorman, on an absurdly loaded team, and spent half the year playing Nevada schools who were just trying to not get hurt (the Gaels weren't scored on by a Nevada team until the playoffs). It's not crazy to think that you might want to give him time to adjust to the college game.

04/05/2018 - 5:19pm Maybe ask DJ Durkin

But there's a difference between moving around in the pocket (which he seemed to do pretty well in 2016) and running for yardage. Again, Kelly traded for Sam Bradford, so he's obviously got a version of his offense that can be utilized by less mobile QBs.

04/05/2018 - 5:01pm The Rams

There were rumors he’d get the Mizzou OC job, but they opted for Derek Dooley.

04/05/2018 - 4:56pm Maybe a transition guy

UCLA's recruiting has been geared toward pro-style under Mora, so maybe this is a way of bridging those recruits for a year or so unitl you have more of your own guys. Wilton could move a little bit (though he obviously wasn't Rudock) and Kelly was also the guy who traded for Sam Bradford, so he might not be averse to a purer-pocket type.

04/05/2018 - 1:11pm I can appreciate all that

But any time I see a player whose main issue is that they seem too smart or are asking why things should be a certain way, I have a problem. Kind of how I feel about the Josh Rosen-bashing (at least on that subject).

04/04/2018 - 2:04pm I'd be interested to see

if there's a bit more zone (like a box and one) next year, assuming Teske is the starting 5, which might allow for more weaker defenders on the floor at any given moment

04/04/2018 - 1:35pm I really think this is closer to being true than not

I don't think he realizes that he doesn't actually need to cut anyone, and that there's not the football equivalent of a street free agent out there. I'm sure the ASU campus has a few would-be walkons who are capable of playing, even if they have to stumble out of the frat house, but the chances they'd be effective starters or depth guys is pretty minimal.

03/30/2018 - 3:02pm I think it was the lack of tournament success

After the four-guard teams. There were either a lot of one win and out, or, with the 09 Final Four run, being run out of the building in the first game.

03/22/2018 - 3:28pm For whatever reason

I feel like Livers is due for a show out game. Obviously the minutes have gone to Duncan for a reason, but I feel like he'll have open looks (provided of course, he gets the ball in a reasonable position). Seems that there's been a different guy playing a step-up role in a lot of these games during the streak, a la Teske vs. Purdue, and that tonight may be his time.

03/20/2018 - 7:47pm Point to remember

Feldman is as close to Leach as anyone. Also, given the circumstances as to why the job is open in the first place (the would-be starter after Falk's graduation committed suicide) it's newsworthy. And fromt eh Alabama perspective, this was originally seen as hedging in case of a transfer after spring.
