Whelp.....this makes the second time he has jumped the shark!

I guess this just proves that old adage: You can F a shark, but you can't F-up a season.

On a serious note, it is always sad to hear when someone loses a job. After 2008 my family was hit with some tough lay-offs so I can really empathize with those individuals. Furthermore after the loss against Georgia, McElwain was asked tough questions from the press and handled them with class. I wish him the best in the future.

All his staff gets booted too. Few of them are making a lot of money.

A multi-millionaire losing his job is not a sad thing, especially when he will wait a year and have another multi-million salary. His family will not go hungry.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:53 PM ^
Sadness is relative.

This is the most Toby thing ever.

Clearlly McElwain's emotional connections were... elsewhere

$12,500,000 buyout. YEAH. NO.

I saw that last night, but it's not happening. It will more than likely end in a settlement where Florida gives him like $7 million to just walk away.
October 29th, 2017 at 2:14 PM ^
If I understand, they are trying to prove that he lied about receiving death threats?
What happens if he delivers proof of them? That would not be a good look for UF...
October 29th, 2017 at 11:20 PM ^
Sounds like they can get him either way - either he failed to inform them of a seriuos threat and should be fired, or lied about receiving them and should be fired.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
They are trying to fire him with cause, though.
October 29th, 2017 at 2:06 PM ^
October 29th, 2017 at 2:12 PM ^
Exactly. At the very worst, he will settle for like $6-8 million....

October 29th, 2017 at 2:22 PM ^
He couldn't elaborate on the death threats and so they can probably get him on that...but I bet if you search twitter for "McElwain" and "die" I'm sure there would be plenty of evidence because twitter is a horrible place.

It doesn't need to be fraud--any dishonesty that negatively affects the reputation of the university or the boosters' association would do.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:14 PM ^
Florida will end up paying him. He would have an easy case to win, given the same information was available to them prior to the beatdown against Georgia and the firing was immediately after that.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
yeah, like anyone would lay off HR staff.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:59 PM ^
You must not of caught the finale of the office.
October 29th, 2017 at 2:40 PM ^
Dude has been making millions for years. I think he'll be okay.

Easy, it's not a Spreewell type thing. Mac's kid will eat.

I will always have fond memories of getting the whole bar to yell "Shark Fucker!" every time his face appeared on screen during the UF-Michigan game. Miss ya Mac.

My guess is that he has a more lucrative buy-out than your family did.

Going to be big moves on the coaching carousel this offseason. There are plenty of coaches to pick from in contrast to last season:
Frost, Morris, Morehead, and Campbell are definitely getting paid. Mullen, MacIntyre, Schiano, Kiffin, and Babers will most likely have chances to move to a more appealing position as well.

Not sure if USF's coach will be a hot commodity any time soon..
October 29th, 2017 at 2:36 PM ^
McElwain is already out. Jones (Tenn) and Mora (UCLA) are all but certain to get fired, while there are a number of other coaches at major programs (Sumlin, Riley, etc.) who could very well join them. That's going to mean a bunch of decommits and shifting preferences on all sides. I hope the staff is preparing for the potential downstream recuiting effects from the coaching changes.

They almost have to go with another offensive-minded coach this time around.

I said offensive-minded, not just "offensive".

but still this takes the cake as far as program fickleness goes.
Remember the entire saga around his hiring, too. The mission to Colorado where they basically got on their knees for McElwain. All that for 2 years and a half..2 years where they did OK and one down year.
On to the next guy to promise the world and fire after a lack of nattys in the first 3 years.
