[OT] - Arizona QB Khalil Tate named Pac-12 Player of the Week for third consecutive time

Submitted by BoFlex on

The first player since USC's Rodney Peete in 1988 to win the award 3 consecutive times.

True sophomore QB Khalil Tate was thrusted into action in Week 6 after Colorado knocked incumbent starter Brandon Dawkins out of the game with a rib injury. Three games later, Tate has completed 31/41 passes for 468 yards (11.4 ypa), 694 rushing yards (15.1 ypc), and 11 total TDs.

It looks like RichRod might have found his next Denard/Pat White at Arizona.

Edit: No desire to bring back RichRod, but that doesn't mean his offense isn't still entertaining/electric as ever.

Hate's a strong word. But what RichRod did to this program was terrible. A lot of Michigan's identity was clothed in forty straight years with a winning record in Big Ten play. Bo was 143-24-3 in the conference, Moeller 30-8-2, Carr 81-23, Hoke 18-14, Harbaugh now 15-6. RichRod was 6-18 in the games that mattered. But, hey, Denard set a lot of records, so great coach, yeah. Sorry, I would root for MSU over Arizona. Maybe even OSU. Maybe not. No, I would, as long as it was a 70-0 beating or something along those lines.

I don't know about OSU, honestly. But there is always a little bit of me that wants the Big Ten to rack up wins out of conference. Certainly never OSU over anyone in conference. MSU is tougher. When I grew up, it just wasn't a rivalry game - they were rarely that good. And my wife has her MA and Ph.D from State and it's nice to see her excited about football (though all those assaults have her reconsidering caring about it). I'm still not sure I consider Penn State fully part of the Big Ten - it's very much Big 2, Little 8 as far as I go.

Happy to see RR succeed. I would rather have Harbaugh no doubt but still feel he was treated unfairly. BEAT RUTGERS

He is the Andrew Luck Director of Offense for Stanford. Let's say we offer him the position of Tom Brady Director of Offense and see if he jumps. If that doesn't work, offer to double his salary.

Especially against weaker teams. But his teams were never complete. Defense always lagged and a fair amount of reliance on one guy make them highly susceptible to injury. Can’t really see him winning championships until he gets both sides of the ball working. His teams are generally the opposite of what we have now. I will say, if you are going to have an incomplete team, a good offense makes for more entertaining games than a good defense.

Is trash. He is the reason we still aren't at the level we should be. Who gives a crap what some qb in the PAC 12 is doing anyway.

The team definitely would've been better, probably would've been challenging for 9-10 win seasons, but they still never would've beaten OSU. Tressel had RichRod's offense figured out from Day 1. Don Brown could not have helped the fact that RichRod's offenses scored a grand total of 24 points on OSU in three years.

All that's relevant about this thread is that is possible for a coach to not pick the correct starter. Any coach. Anywhere. Sometimes the best guy is just sitting on the bench. Somtimes he's young. Like RS FR young. Occassionally. Not often, but every so often.

That RichRod's offense racks up huge yardage against bad teams and craps its pants against good teams, then yes his offense is as electric and entertaining as ever.

Has to be a misprint in the article. True sophomores aren’t capable of playing let alone being good QBs. He hasn’t to be at least a redshirt Jr.

Sounds similar to what he had at WVU.  If he has a hot QB who fits the system and stays healthy they can make a run, especially against average competition.

This is an unpopular opinion but I never hated Rich Rod. If he was given a 4th year and replaced the defensive coaches I think he would have at least matched Hokes first season. He's a great coach, imo.

but I think his open-field ankle-breaking ability is superior to Denard's. Perfect for RR. They'll win a lot of games 44-41.

For those complaining that we haven't beaten a ranked opponent on the road in forever, Arizona took down No. 2 Oregon at Oregon in 2014.  The only other team to beat Oregon that year was OSU (in the championship game).  He's coached that team to some upsets there.  (They also beat a top-10 Oregon the year before.)  I'm extremely grateful and glad that Harbaugh is our coach (and wouldn't trade him for RR), but I've always thought Harbaugh's reliance on a complex, NFL-style offense could be a detriment given the time it takes to coach up students, the limited practice time, and the constant turnover that comes with the college game (coupled with the offense's refusal to take advantage of certain aspects of the college game that favor offenses).
