I got a really cool SUV in 2018, a Jeep Trackhawk.  I had been waiting a couple years for it to come out.  I absolutely love it.  Super fast even in rain or snow. I was able to go 0-60 in the rain in 3.8 seconds (it has an onboard timer).  Tows my boat great too.  All in all, seems like a great vehicle.  Only downside is gas mileage but I have a really short commute so doesn't matter that much.

01/03/2019 - 7:26pm Another good example. Carr’s…

Another good example. Carr’s offense was money when we opened it up which was generally when we were behind.  His final game against Meyer is another good example although that was just sort of a shootout.

I think that is partly why Carr never lost an OT game.  We were generally the better team and only in OT because we played too conservative.

I think Carr was 5-0 or something in OT.

Lloyd Carr’s offense when we were behind.

In the beginning of games under Carr we spent a ton of time trying to establish the run.

But once we were down and opened things up, our passing attack was quite good. I am thinking about 2004 MSU, the big comeback against Minnesota, even the 2004 and 2006 season Rose Bowls.

What kind of money does a 2nd round pick get?  I don’t really follow the NFL.

12/30/2018 - 9:07am What is weird?  Seems like…

What is weird?  Seems like it has played out like most recent seasons.  Bama playing for championship and M crushing our spirits with 2 straight losses to end the season.  On the bright side, fairly consistent 10-3 seasons are much better than we were getting under RR and Hoke and comparable to the end of the Carr regime.

12/13/2018 - 11:18am Winning the Orange Bowl over…

Winning the Orange Bowl over FSU would have been a good win for us.  Anytime you can win one of the 4 major bowls, its a good win.

The Peach Bowl doesn't seem as good but now that they have added it and the Cotton to the NY6 lineup, seems like a big deal.

12/11/2018 - 9:04pm I think it can be hard on…

I think it can be hard on parents as it is definitely a lot harder to get in nowadays then it was back in the 1980s when my wife and I got in.  Our son had a fairly good set of diverse experiences in high school coupled with a 32 ACT and Top 4 in high school GPA rank but didn’t make it in to Michigan’s Engineering School.  It worked out though as he is on track to graduate Purdue next year.  It was just more expensive for Mom and Dad.......

M is ready.  We already got them on the schedule.

You could rename the West the Big 8.....

I would prefer football but basketball would be very satisfying nonetheless.

12/06/2018 - 3:47pm I follow all 3.  Most…

I follow all 3.  Most interest in football.  Over time, probably the same interest in hockey and basketball.  As of recent, probably more interest in basketball as hockey has been down other than last years Frozen Four.

12/04/2018 - 12:26pm OSU has made good hires…

OSU has made good hires historically.  Woody, Bruce, Tressel and Meyer were all top notch at winning games.  Even Cooper won a lot of games, just not against Michigan.  Only bad coach was interim Fickell who went 6-7.  But Meyer was the most successful of all of them.  Hard to not believe that Day won't be some sort of step back whether small or big.

11/29/2018 - 7:50am ESPN’s playoff predictor…

ESPN’s playoff predictor gives us a 2% chance. Georgia and OSU need to get blown out. OU and maybe UCF have to lose. Possible but highly unlikely.

Honestly, not sure going to the playoff and matching up against Alabama is the best option for us.

11/27/2018 - 12:35pm I think there is both a…

I think there is both a coaching gap and a talent gap.

Urban Meyer is a upper end legendary coach. He has won 3 national titles at 2 different schools.  How many other coaches have even won 3 titles in the last 50 years?  Nick Saban, Bear Bryant, Tom Osborne?  Maybe there are more but even some of those on the list are back when there were ties due to both polls.  Over the 20 years of BCS and the playoff, Saban has 6, Urban 3, then 11 coaches with 1 - Stoops, Fisher, Fulmer, Miles, Carrol, Swinney, Brown, Bowden, Tressel, Chizek, Coker.  Many of the guys with 1 title are legendary coaches.  Then look at Meyer's assistants.  Kevin Wilson and Greg Schiano were pretty solid head coaches in college and Schiano was even an NFL coach.  We don't have that.  I get that Meyer and crew have questionable values but they know football.

As for the players, OSU has a team of higher rated players than us.  While stars don't mean everything, more 4 and 5 stars on average works out better than less.  They have more.

I think Harbaugh and his coaches and the players he is bringing in are good enough that we will win some of time but on average, we are going to struggle with the elite teams.

11/26/2018 - 7:28pm Balancing the divisions…

Balancing the divisions would be ok.  Move Penn St, Maryland and Rutgers to the West and call it the Outer Rim Division.  Move Purdue, Illinois and Northwestern to the new Hub Division.

Not playing OSU at the end is not ok. How do you cancel the best rivalry in sports?

It has been a run of bad luck to have the last 3 "big" matchups in Columbus. But thankfully 97 was at home.

11/26/2018 - 1:22pm Good information.  I found…

Good information.  I found it interesting that we have won the 7th most games over the past 4 years.  That's much better than the previous 7 years.  Hopefully we continue to improve.

I would add a couple other seasons to the Top list.

1993 - 9-0-3 ("undefeated", tied OSU, won Rose Bowl vs Washington)

1989 - 10-2 (beat OSU, lost Rose Bowl to USC)

That puts 10 on the list.  I think the hard part for fans is that 8 of the top 10 seasons were in the 80s and 90s.  Last 19 seasons have been tough.  A NY6 bowl win over a top opponent would be a nice addition to the list.

11/26/2018 - 12:58pm I agree.  App State was an…

I agree.  App State was an enormous upset.  OSU is a good team.  Even coming in they were ranked #8 and they were at home.  The line was 4 points.

Michigan will be back.  M has been subject to other pastings.  This game reminded me most of when M lost to FSU 51-31 in 1991.  The next year they won the Rose Bowl.

Six seasons later M went undefeated and won a national title.

Seemed odd to me too. Sort of like telling Peters to transfer. Peters has thrown only a couple passes all year.  But if Milton is the future, maybe it is just to get him some time on the big stage.

I don’t think we had a great season.  Expectations at Michigan are to win Championships.  We didnt. We also lost 2 of our 3 rivalry games. Maybe our season was better than expectations as many thought 9-3 and Vegas May have even had 8-4, but this is not a great season.

Great post. Much appreciated.

Quick question- what other year since 2004 was M favored?   2007?

Could you imagine Beilein throwing a punch at a game?  I don’t even know if I would believe it if it was on video.

While it wasn't bare, there were definitely some holes.  If Harbaugh doesn't go out and get Rudock, I think 2015 would have been much worse.

11/19/2018 - 12:51pm MSU crested in 2013 and 2015…

MSU crested in 2013 and 2015.  They are 19-17 the last 3 years.  They overachieved in those years but have to give them credit, they won a couple B1G Titles and a Rose Bowl.  But going to be tough sledding for them now that M and PSU are strong again.  I suspect Nebraska will become good again under Frost.  Hard for MSU to compete with traditional powers when they get a good coach in place.

11/19/2018 - 12:29pm I think it is especially…

I think it is especially impressive given that he took over a 5-7 team.

Really happy to have him as M's coach.

What was the line in 2016?  Were we favored?  Prior to that, the last time we were probably favored in Columbus was 2004.

11/15/2018 - 8:32am Just out of curiosity, how…

Just out of curiosity, how many nonconference road games against Top 10 opponents have we played.  You mention the 2 wins over the last 55 years.  How many losses were there?

It makes me laugh to see that MSU is aligned with Rutgers to end the season now on Rivalry Week.

11/02/2018 - 11:35pm Yes.  Every fan base has two…

Yes.  Every fan base has two thoughts about their best players:

1) player X is awesome, maybe the best ever, should really be in the running for the Heisman

2) same player X should stay in school another year to either get 1) more experience, 2) his degree or 3) both.

10/29/2018 - 12:28pm My guess is OU and Michigan…

My guess is OU and Michigan get left out in the above scenario.  LSU, ND and Clemson would be locks.  I would think Bama would get in over Michigan and OU assuming their loss at LSU wasn't super bad.  I do think we would have the edge over OU as our loss is to a much better team than their loss and ours was on the road versus neutral site.

10/26/2018 - 11:09am This is pretty easy if you…

This is pretty easy if you are a M fan:

Clemson or FSU?  FSU

Texas or Ok St?  Ok St

ND or Navy?  Navy

UGA or Fla?  Florida

Oklahoma or KState? KState

PSU or Iowa? Long tough hard hitting game.....

Purdue or MSU? Purdue

Bonus:  Saban retires.

I assumed UT was the University of Texas.

I think they have more claim to the T than Tennessee given the respective program histories.

While the hype does seem a little out of control, I think a bunch of positive exposure can only be good for recruiting.

Are there any consequences to a “reprimand”?  In particular to Devin Bush?

10/23/2018 - 9:48pm I don’t know.  Even if Urban…

I don’t know.  Even if Urban gets pushed out, he will get snapped up quickly by another top notch school.  He has 3 national titles to his name.  Plenty of schools will ignore the noise around him.

10/22/2018 - 10:52am They also seem to drop off…

They also seem to drop off the first year when MSU lost to Carr.

Reality is Dantonio is 2-3 against Harbaugh and Carr versus 6-1 versus RichRod and Hoke.

My guess is they will be lucky to maintain the 40% win rate Dantonio has achieved against top coaches as long as Harbaugh is around.

Can you get a transcript somewhere?  I always find it hard to find time where I can listen to it.

I am hopeful Jim decides to finish his career here.  Be nice to have a 15ish year run of very good teams.

10/21/2018 - 6:10pm People on this blog were…

People on this blog were posting that Harbaugh should be fired during the game yesterday.  There will always be haters/doubters unless you win every game every year.  I don’t even understand it.   Who would you hire?  Short of Belicheck or Saban (and given their age, not sure i would want them - ignoring the fact they would be impossible to hire) is there anyone that you would rather have? 10-3, 10-3, 8-5, 7-1 seems awesome to me given he took over a 5-7 team

I agree with Don. If Mattison can be just a DL coach, Warriner can be just an OL coach.  Pay him top dollar and let him excel.

10/17/2018 - 1:58pm We could lose this week, win…

We could lose this week, win out, win the B1G title game and win the Rose Bowl.

Or we could win this week, lose to PSU and OSU and go to the Outback Bowl.

Really depends on the whole season in my mind.

10/16/2018 - 12:31pm I didn't really notice…

I didn't really notice against Wisconsin but in general losing a star starter is almost always a bad thing.

Great article!  In particular, I like the screen shots with the arrows.  Really cool.  I am sure this took a long time to do but I would love to see more of it.

10/10/2018 - 11:37am I agree.  Although we would…

I agree.  Although we would likely control our destiny losing any single game except PSU or OSU.  I would be shocked if MSU wins out in the B1G.  So I think we can really drop any B1G game.

As for the CFP, I just don't think we are anywhere near the same level as Alabama.
