PSU Kicker #99 Joey Julius no longer on the roster; Shayne Simon to ND (4-8 last season)
Here is the link to the Joey Julius article on 247:
This is good for our returners, so they won't have to deal with this anymore:
Also, Shayne Simon just committed to Notre Dame. The team that went 4-8 last season and whose coach is currently on the hot seat. Good Luck?
No jokes about Julius, I hope. Sounds like he is really going through a rough time...
Depression is tough. Hope Joey pulls through.
But is it a "compliment"???
Nah. Wouldn't he be looking the other way if that was the case?
(4-8 last season).
LOL.
Only if singleton gets hurt. Singleton> Simon. We will get a better player next year, but could see Simon flip as ND is getting stomped in at least four games this year. Simon picked ND for whatever reason, but he will play on teams that are just not that good. Hope he plays in next years game and again at Michigan.
Penn State kickoff specialist Joey Julius is no longer with the team, PennLive's Bob Flounders reported Monday. A Nittany Lions spokesperson confirmed the report that Julius, who missed spring practices while receiving treatment for an eating disorder, is no longer on the roster.
Hopefully, he gets everything straightened out and is on the road to recovery soon, assuming he's still dealing with this.
I wish him good health, but from what little I have seen and heard from him, seems like kind of a dick to me. Just sayin.
I just read the article and it mentions an eating disorder . . . and thats it?
No other details or clinical diagnosis?
He probably is "going through some stuff", and I hope he gets healthier, but guess what?
I suffer from depression and an eating disorder too. and I think Thoughts & Prayers are a bit over the top for a PSU player that thought he was tough shit.
Lorenz has been told to keep his CB on Simon, so it doesn't seem like we'll be backing off.
I saw that he was the only expert to have a crystal ball in for Michigan. That's interesting and good to hear that we won't stop recruiting him just because he's a verbal to ND.
Another tough season and it will be impossible to hold their recruiting class together.
I won't make fun of Julius because of his eating issues and mental state, but as a football player I say "good." I'm glad guys were headhunting last year because he was doing the same.
As for Simon, who the fuck knows...all I know is there are a number of coaches who are on the hot seat winning recruiting battles over Michigan right now. Not all of them are going to turn the ship around, and when they don't...we pounce.
My only problem with Julius is he liked to dish it out but could't take it in return. When you go out and tackle like that as the kicker you can't expect a penalty when you get blocked like a regular player. He has clearly been dealing with issues, hopefully he gets them under control, though I'd think a rigorous football S&C program could really help.
he liked to go lay a big hit on a returner but couldn't take it when he'd get hit back. Seems like he thought it was a one way street (and the refs did too)
I wonder if we had room for Shayne Simon? This is going to be a much smaller class and we did take 3-4 linebackers last class (Ross, Singleton, Anthony, Mason). With Otis Reese already on board and it sounds like we are in great shape with Cameron McGrone, maybe the staff just couldn't promise him a spot at this time.
Yes Michigan has room for Simon, they still want him, and they will continue to recruit him. His HS coaches do not like Partridge and want him to go to ND, it's so bad he made a secret visit last month and made sure neither his coaches or the media knew about it. He may end up sticking with ND, but there's still confidence on Michigan's side of things.
Will be very interesting to see how ND's season goes and how their class holds up.
Wow, didn't know any of that. Thanks. Looks like ND could be in for another rough season. They play #3 USC, #12 Stanford and #20 Miami plus what could be another 3-4 tossup games.
Lol @ the "secret visit" part. This is why I love college football recruiting. Guess I'll stay optimistic on Simon.
I wondered why he kind of snuck in for a visit. Now it makes sense. Those coaches in New Jersey who don't like a linebackers coach at Michigan because he beat them at there own game are flat out the biggest bunch of bitches in High school football. I actually think he will flip as he realizes what is coming at ND. I actually think Kelly is going to be gone soon enough and they will try to steal meyer away with huge money and so do osu fans.
I think it's good that the headline mentioned Notre Dame being 4-8. Lots of people forget that.
Apparently Simon did.
Agreed.
I like the film for both Simon and McGrone. Hate to lose Simon go the Domers, although he has been trending hard to ND for a while now.
Maybe he will rethink his commitment after ND gets curb-stomped numerous times this season and Kelly geets broomed.
Have to think a lot of ND's commits are tentative at best. Another poor season, Brian Kelly's seat continuing to heat up (or him getting fired) and a lot of their commits will be there for the taking. Maybe Simon can give us a Donovan Jeter moment when we flip him.
I recall JD had a funny tweet directed at Peppers about that play. Something about JD understanding that Peppers made a "business decision" not to take on Julius.
We'll see what Simon thinks after the domers' season.
That looks like targeting to me
We'll always have Jabrill making business decisions, without considering involved parties.
If ND was just a member of any conference, there's no way they would be able to recruit like this. But since they basically have their own pro-ND TV network, they can sell that exposure to kids.
I wonder where those kids will go after Kelly gets fired this season.
