The routes weren't set up very well either, so from the snap, we were at a disadvantage. It seemed like our WRs had a hard time recognizing where the open space was and working back to the passer once he leaves the pocket.
They make it look so easy in the NFL, with KC, NE, NO easily finding open WRs almost every play, whether it's a 2 step drop or a 7 seconds to release. It's amazing how smart the WRs are, and how they are always on the same page with the QB.
|01/12/2019 - 8:17pm||Cowan and Fernando are big…||
Cowan and Fernando are big time players for Maryland. Not much supporting cast for them, similar to Modern and Langford for IU and Cline and Edwards at Purdue.
All 3 teams are even in my eyes, not sure why so many think Maryland is way inferior to the other two.
Most disappointing maybe IU because of their injuries and not winning on the road.
Most overachieving maybe Rutgers. Who thought they'd beat osu.
About to plummet is osu they are losing and don't have enough scorers to compete with the big boys.
About to go on a run maybe IU since they finally got their PG back.
The league is clearly Michigan vs msu. Nobody else has the depth and scoring to keep up. IU is the closest despite losing @Maryland.

Honestly, I don't see the big deal with eating lemons. I eat lemons all the time. Whenever I have lemon slices in drinks, I eat the slice at the end, including the rind. During the summer, I'll sometime just snack on a lemon or two, eating the entire thing (except the seeds).
So congrats to all my fellow lemon eaters! I love lemons!

I think this is actually a win-win. Higdon gets to rest up and be 100% for the combine. He's done all he could to showcase to the NFL this season. No need for an ACL tear in a bowl game.
This now allows for Evans/Wilson/Turner/Haskins to shine. Big moment for all of them, as this will be a good live-game practice to show what they can bring next season.
I like to see Evans get 40%, Wilson 10%, Turner 25%, and Haskins 25% of the RB touches (carries and receptions) in the bowl game.

Wow. I guess the crowd here really dislikes Def Leppard.
They are one of 5 rock bands to have two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the US (the other four are Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Van Halen).
They are still touring, and not like KISS who are their 20th goodbye tour, but Def Leppard is still rocking hard, are touring with other strong acts, and tickets are reasonably priced.
I don't see how people can be so dismissive of such a popular band who have had 40+ years of success.
They're right there with Bob Dylan, Genesis, David Bowie, and Chicago in total record sales. I'm glad they're finally in the HoF.

I think most of the thought out arguments for why this bowl is meaningless is because the match-up of Michigan vs Florida is stale, and Florida didn't have a very impressive season.
If we were going against WVU/Washington/LSU, I don't think anybody would say the bowl game is meaningless.
It appears meaningless because we seemingly always get Florida, Florida always underachieves, we smash Florida, and the national media shrugs and says nothing because we were supposed to win anyways.
Obviously it's important to win, but as a fan it's hard to get fired up for going up against a mediocre Florida team again.

"Brazdeikis's craftiness around the rim is almost without parallel in recent Michigan history, and any contenders for the crown are guys like Simpson and Spike Albrecht who have to come up with absurd shot patterns to prevent their shots from being blocked into the front row. Brazdeikis has the game of a 5'10" guard in a 6'7" frame."
I'd say the way he attacks the paint and his body control is very similar to NBA-Healthy-Caris LeVert and Fully-Operational-Sophomore-Nik Stauskas.
Z/Spike/Trey all have/had to take wild paths around the rim and throw crazy spin hooks against the glass because they were short and moving very very fast. Which led to them always ending up on the ground with the photographers. I don't recall players like Caris/Nik/Iggy ending up on the ground very often.

4. Yes this makes or breaks our season. Win and we're looking at a shot at the cfp. Lose and we're looking at a possible rose bowl vs WSU. But we need to win the big ten this year. This team deserves it.
5. Win the game. I don't care about the score. If we can beat osu, the refs, and the home field advantage, then the score doesn't matter. My gut is saying we win 30-24, but my brain says I can't think this way until we beat msu and osu in the same season.

|11/16/2018 - 5:32pm||Sorry it sounds so blunt and…||
Sorry it sounds so blunt and bleak, but when Bamas best win is against Cajun Hoke, who've struggled against almost everyone on their schedule, that's not moving the needle for me. Yeah, Bama and Clemson are putting up absurd numbers. But that's what happens when in some cases they never pull the starters, or in other cases they're basically playing against Maryland and Nebraska every week. Except the SEC teams are even more boring than B1G teams, and the ACC plays less defense and has less overall talent than the B1G.
So, am I impressed when I see a final score of Bama/Clemson 70 - xxx - 3? Nope, not impressed. I'll be impressed when I see how all those 18-20 year old kids respond to being down at halftime, or getting hit hard on consecutive plays.
|11/16/2018 - 2:24pm||I think ND rolls in this…||
I think ND rolls in this game. Something like 38-10.
I also think ND should be ahead of Clemson, but there's no difference between 2 and 3, so who cares?
I honestly don't believe Bama and Clemson are unstoppable powerhouses. They've looked great against a bunch of really really really crappy teams. Like, MAC level teams with less creative offenses. I think if they play against a well coached team like ND or Michigan, they will struggle big time. I'd put those games at 50/50.
I think Michigan, ND, and Bama are the most balanced teams, and have strengths everywhere with no obvious weaknesses. Clemson and Georgia are close. OU/WVU/WSU/OSU/LSU are all talented, but have huge, glaring weaknesses. Nobody else deserves a mention because they're all trash, and would lose 99/100 times against any of the top 5, while the OU/WVU/WSU/OSU/LSU might win 25% of the time against teams in the Top 5.
|11/15/2018 - 12:19pm||Wisconsin, I think, was…||
Wisconsin, I think, was projected to be pretty bad again this year. I think they'll be Top 5 in the B1G, but they won't be anywhere near Michigan and MSU. In their good years, they are a deep tourney team and a lock for Top 3 in the B1G.
They looked really good beating Xavier. I just don't see Trice and Davison holding up in conference play.
Happ will definitely be enough to get them to the NCAAT as a 6-8 seed, but I think Michigan and MSU will be looking at 1-3 seeds, and IU as a 4-5 seed.
|11/15/2018 - 11:54am||I never understood why…||
I never understood why people were down on this squad. I thought coming in that Michigan was the clear front-runner to win the B1G regular season, B1G Championship, and the only B1G capable of making a deep tourney run.
IU surprised me, and their two freshman are looking really good. Purdue and Wisconsin will be annoying, but nothing like the last 1-4 years from them. MSU is probably the biggest threat in the B1G race, but I just don't see them staying with our offense, or being athletic enough to score on our defense. Unless Langford really makes a jump this year, they'll be hurting for athletic scorers when they face us. I'm not afraid of Winston doing anything against Simpson.

|11/09/2018 - 3:08pm||Yeah I believe this to be…||
Yeah I believe this to be true. And I'm not knocking Hudson at all; just doing a thought experiment. Hudson isn't the greatest in slot/TE coverage, and he's missed some open field tackles.
Him and Bush definitely have different roles this year from last year. But I'd expect Hudson to show better instincts, and being able to stay with TE's on routes.
If I were OSU, I'd be scheming ways to get Bush and Hudson in space on slot WR's, and throw nothing but 2-5 yard passes all day. There aren't any obvious holes in our defense. That may be the only way a team has success moving the ball.
|11/09/2018 - 2:32pm||Who would be the least…||
Who would be the least improved player on defense this year? I'm thinking Hudson. He was electric last year, constantly in the backfield, and crushing open field tackles.
This year, he seems a little lost in his new role. If he isn't attacking, he's not at his best.
He's still playing solid defense, but I don't think he's playing at a higher level or even same level as last year.

|11/05/2018 - 2:56pm||What are the rules after a…||
What are the rules after a FG is blocked? What has to happen for the ball to be marked down or dead? Is it like a punt, and the kicking team just needs to touch the ball? If nobody touches it for 5 seconds, is it dead? Did McKeon (or was that Gentry) touch the ball? Why don't more teams run back blocked FG's? (typically you just see everyone on both teams run away from the ball, right?)
It seems like PSU finds some strange special teams luck in big games.

Some gems from some of our biggest haters on the internet, the lovely folks over at SBNATION Off Tackle Empire:
Even when they try to give us credit, they still find a way to take their shots:
Michigan Wolverines - (Defeated Penn State, 42-7) Michigan destroyed the Nittany Lions. The defense is spectacular, and the rent-a-quarterback strategy seems to be paying off for them. Go to Piscataway, get the win, and do not get anyone hurt. Everyone else in the B1G East looks to be several steps behind Harbaugh’s crew. Next up: @Rutgers.
PSU at Michigan | Stop beating PSU they’re already dead, 42-7
I invite you to pause for a moment to wallow in the reality of Michigan peaking at just the right time to win a moribund B1G. For whatever reason, the Penn State team we knew—the team that racked up 60-something points per game on the arm and legs of QB1 Salutey McHomerun—suddenly vanished in the fourth quarter of the OSU game and has only been seen on milk cartons since. Meanwhile, Michigan is on their revenge tour after umpteen years of their coach melting down on the sidelines over...(let me check my notes)...his own failings. Shea Patterson seems to be the spark the Wolverines needed on offense, which isn’t that bad of a situation until you consider the fact that a coach who made his name on QB development basically has to rent them from someone else. At any rate, Penn State got beaten so badly this week that laughable HOT TAEK extruder Dan Wolken at USA Today suggested Franklin look for another job.
A-A-Ron Yorke: I was afraid that Penn State’s trip to Ann Arbor might look a lot like 2016 version, and it turns out that’s exactly what happened. The defense played pretty well in the first half to keep Penn State in the game, but eventually the unit wore down thanks to the offense’s inability to put anything resembling a drive together. Yes, the game should have been closer than it was. A blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown by Garrett Taylor got called back due to a questionable penalty call. Trace McSorley missed a wide open DeAndre Thompkins for what should have been an easy touchdown pass. Still, the offense was overwhelmed by Michigan’s front seven for most of the game and McSorley now looks broken after going 5-for-13 for 83 yards and a pick. Given his physical condition, I’m not even sure that he should start the game against Wisconsin next week.
87townie: Fuck harbaugh. Fuck michigan. Revenge my ass. We’ll see you next year you khaki clown.

Zavier Simpson is not cringe worthy on offense. He has a 3:1 A:TO ratio, and he plays an excellent game of pick and roll. He is an excellent PG. No, he's not Trey Burke. But he's what we need; someone who can push the pace and find open shooters, work set plays to get open looks, and he can put up big points if he's overlooked like in these games:
12/9 W vs UCLA: 15 points on 6-9 shooting, 4 steals
Also had 11 points vs A&M and 10 points vs Nova.
Yeah, he probably won't ever average 15 ppg over the season, but if he can keep running an efficient offense, hit open shots, and drive when defenses over commit on the pick and roll, then he's doing his job.

Definitely want Bama over LSU. We don't want a 1-loss SEC non champ getting into the playoffs.
Stanford over Wazzu. And every other 1 loss team to lose again.
I think we'd want PSU over Iowa, unless we want to see Iowa sneak their way into the B1G CG with a Wisconsin loss to either NW or Purdue. If PSU wins, then we get the chance for another ranked win, at home. If PSU loses, then we definitely want Iowa in the B1G CG for a shot at a big ranked win (and also #RevengeTour on Iowa). But Iowa needs help to get there, and can we rely on someone upsetting a wounded Wisconsin?

How good is MSUs front 7 compared to ND? I would guess the areas of strength are different; ND seems to have borderline elite DE + DT dudes, while MSU has a perfect system for the LBs they get, and the strength is always at the LB position.
This will definitely be a harder game for our OL than Wisconsin was, because injuries.
Let's hope we learned how NW, PSU, and USU got so many yards against them, and have a couple scripted drives and unseen plays to throw at these guys. If we can get on the board quickly, that can really hurt the 'disrespkt' chips. Can't afford a slow start to give these guys momentum and confidence. We need a lead at halftime.
