I think osu finally realized they couldn't beat us, so they had to retreat. But they also figured they are stronger than GT, so that's the easiest path to take. We can finally begin helping our allies, as both GT and Florida have taken huge hits these past few days.

05/23/2018 - 4:47pm How do you get started

How do you get started investing in this Vanguard index fund? How high is the minimum "buy-in" to have an account? I'd love to get started, but I know literally less than nothing about long term investing.

LA Dodgers
Chicago Cubs
Cleveland Indians

I like the idea of being an outsider to the city, swooping in, and stealing the segment. Adds a bit of intrigue to the "game".

My home routes that I own, I continue running them trying to break my PR so I can protect whats mine. If I lose it, I consider it "stolen".

05/09/2018 - 2:31pm Strava is basically a social

Strava is basically a social media site for runners and cyclists. There are segments, which are mostly popular routes, and the app tracks every attempt on that route. So if you can post the fastest time, you are the "winner" of that route. So it's fun to find routes in new cities, and try to steal a segment from someone. I have 1st place on segments on Maui, Big Island, and Oahu.

I plan ahead and star any routes on strava I think I can steal close to where I'm staying. Running to explore a new area with the bonus of stealing a segment from someone is awesome.

I wonder if the players of these features read these pieces. If so, I'm sure they appreciate the praise from us fans and writers.

So proud Rahk was a guy on the team I cheer for. What a great dude.

Thank you for the 4 years of super fun and successful basketball!

04/13/2018 - 2:51pm I think Brooks sees more time

I think Brooks sees more time than you're predicting. Yeah DeJulius is a baller, but he's a freshamn PG in Beilein's system.

I see Brooks getting 15 mins/game split between pg and sg. DeJulius will get 5 mins/game and maybe increase minutes and play the role that Poole played this year.

04/12/2018 - 3:22am When you throw out the first pitch at a softball

When you throw out the first pitch at a softball game, I assume you need to throw it underhand, like the way a softball is actually pitched? What would the reaction be if someone threw out the first pitch with an overhand motion instead?

I second this motion.

I think Matthews will be the focus of our offense next year (if Mo goes Pro), but Poole will be #2.

I love the duo of Matthews and Poole; two long bodies that can attack and finish, and can hit from the outside. Not many teams have two dudes who can defend those guys 1v1.

04/09/2018 - 7:36pm I don't want to jump to

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I see three players with a C by their names; I don't think the C stands for Captain, I think it stands for Complicit.

Agree. We were in a catch 22 between who to put Matthews on: Bridges or Divencenzo.

04/03/2018 - 3:23pm This is true. Only way around

This is true. Only way around it is to either pull the scholarship off an incoming freshman, or kick out one of the three: Davis, Brooks, Watson.

Neither are good options, but I'm sure Beilein has an idea on how to figure it out if Mo comes back.

04/03/2018 - 2:47pm I feel like we played as good

I feel like we played as good as we could have on defense. Some ticky tack fouls aside, the only visible mistakes were not boxing out and giving up 12 OREBs.

I really hoped that we could stop both Brunson and Spellman. Well, they combined for 7-21 shooting, with 17 points, 13 rebs, 2 assists, and 3 TO's. Mission accomplished.

I figured we would struggle defending Bridges; that dude has the NBA written all over him. He was able to get whatever he wanted 1v1. Their sets and high screens with Bridges were a thing of beauty.

And then the wildcard, DiVincenzo. He was way too athletic for Robinson to defend, too tall for Rahk/Z to defend, and we needed Matthews on Bridges, so we were just in a bind. Poole couldn't stick with him; Livers couldn't stick with either Bridges or Divincenzo. They were just a matchup nightmare, even when we could eliminate two of their 4 top players.

And I think this shows the value of combining NBA talent with players that buy into a system for 4 years.

This gives optimism for envisioning Simpson + Teske + Livers combined with possible NBA talent like Poole/Matthews and incoming freshman Brazdeikis, Johns, and DeJulius. We'll have a really good combo of NBA talent and system guys. We could easily become the next Villanova if we continue to get players that buy into and can learn the system.

Go Blue! Excellent season which surpassed all expectations. Can't wait to see what we can do next season!

04/03/2018 - 2:14pm I just hope Cleveland can

I just hope Cleveland can live up to expectations, and finally win the AFC North this year. They have the roster to do it, and every other team in their division is struggling. Can't wait to see this team make a deep run in the playoffs.

This preview made my stomach turn. Don't think I'm gonna get much work done today. We've got a bunch of David's vs a giant goliath. Our cast of misfit players has a shot to upset one of the greatest statistical teams in recent history. I love this team, and I hope their junkyard dog attitude and fight can overcome any and all who stand in their way. Go Blue!! One last game!! One more time! Do more! Say less!

I'm rooting for Michigan tomorrow, and I hope we can win. That would be really cool and would make me happy; but regardless of the result, this team has surpassed all expectations and I couldn't be more proud of these guys. Go Blue!

03/29/2018 - 4:18pm You could probably add Trice

You could probably add Trice to the list. Taking a lower recruited guy, getting 4 good to great years out of him, and then him having a career making money in the D-league and overseas is a success in my mind.

But that takes the grand total to 4. Not a very good resume for Izzo.

03/29/2018 - 4:15pm This helps to put it in

This helps to put it in perspective. Thanks!

I've really appreciated your comments around here lately. Definitely a productive commenter!

I just don't want to see us repeat the FSU game where we miss 2 front ends of a 1 and 1. Those are killers. And since Loyola is foul averse, it may be 1 and 1 situations at the end. Lets just hope we're up by 7+ so it won't matter!

03/29/2018 - 4:08pm Gun to my head, yes.

Gun to my head, yes.

But it's all relative. A lot of money to me is $50. A lot of money to you may be more or less. Please gamble responsibly.

03/29/2018 - 3:48pm A baller, yes perhaps he

A baller, yes perhaps he was.

Did he play like the #4 best recruit? And the best recruit ever under Izzo?

Fr stats: 23 mpg, 8 ppg, 45/34/80 shooting line FG/3pt/FT
So stats: 25 mpg, 11 ppg, 45/33/84
Jr stats: 35 mpg, 17 ppg, 46/39/83

So, great JR year, but nothing of note as a Fr or SO. and He didn't do much in the NBA. Only started 60 games

03/29/2018 - 3:19pm My only wish is that this

My only wish is that this game doesn't come down to FT's. They are a way better FT shooting team than we are, so please keep a 10+ point lead the entire 2nd half. Thanks!

GO BLUE!!!!!!!

03/29/2018 - 2:24pm Reposting b/c Relevant

I decided to go back to 2003 (as far back as 247 goes), and see the highly rated recruits (Top 100 based on 247sports ranking) MSU has brought in, and how they did in college (and if they had a pro career (NBA/overseas)).

TLDR Version:
Number of players who played to their high rating, improved every year at MSU, or were a diamond in the rough: 10 players (Neitzel, Suton, Morgan, Lucas, Summers, Green, Payne, Trice, Harris, Valentine)

Number who didn't play to their potential based on ranking: 16 players (Brown, Naymick, Gray, Herzog, Dahlman, Allen, Roe, Lucious, Nix, Sherman, Appling, Byrd, Dawson, Costello, Kaminski, Davis)

Number who were TBD: 6 players (McQuaid, Bridges, Langford, Winston, Ward, Jackson) Analysis below

2003:
(4) Shannon Brown - Highest rated on the list. 3 years at MSU with a great JR year. 408 games in the NBA (only 60 starts). Currently in the NBA G-League
(63) Drew Naymick - Below average 5 years at MSU. Playing overseas.

2004:
(26) Marquise Gray - Terrible 4 years at MSU.
(48) Drew Neitzel - Improved every year, great Jr and Sr year. NBA D-League, retired in 2011.
(119) Goran Suton - Improved every year. Playing overseas.
2005: None in the Top 100

2006:
(34) Raymar Morgan - Great 4 year career, playing overseas now
(47) Tom Herzog - Garbage at MSU, transfer to UCF for 4th year in college.
(87) Isaiah Dahlman - Garbage 4 years at MSU

2007:
(31) Kalin Lucas - Great 4 years at MSU, playing overseas.
(40) Durrell Summers - Improved every year for 4 years at MSU, never a great player. NBA D-League and playing overseas.
(45) Chris Allen - Bad 3 years at MSU, transfer to Iowa St for senior year

2008:
(15) Delvon Roe - Below average 3 years at MSU, ended career with knee injury. Currently an actor.
(69) Draymond Green - Great 4 years at MSU, got better every year. NBA All-Star
(78) Korie Lucious - Terrible 3 years at MSU, transfer to Iowa St.

2009:
(76) Derrick Nix - Bad 3 years, then good 4th year at MSU. Playing overseas.
(80) Garrick Sherman - Terrible 2 years at MSU, transfer to ND

2010:
(22) Adreian Payne - Great Jr and Sr year at MSU. NBA and NBA D-League injury problems.
(37) Keith Appling - Decent 4 years at MSU. Currently in jail.
(96) Russell Byrd - Terrible 3 years at MSU.

2011:
(17) Branden Dawson - OK 3 years, great senior year at MSU. NBA, NBA D-League, overseas career.
(188) Travis Trice - Good to great career at MSU. NBA, D-League, overseas.

2012:
(19) Gary Harris - Great 2 years at MSU. Good NBA player.
(89) Matt Costello - Average 4 years at MSU. NBA D League.
(95) Kenny Kaminski - 1 bad year at MSU. Transfer to Ohio (in the MAC).
(112) Denzel Valentine - Great Jr and Sr year at MSU. In the NBA.

2013: None in the top 100.
2014: None in the top 100.
2015:
(26) Deyonta Davis - Average Fr season. Left for the NBA. Injuries sideline the 31st overall pick.
(71) Matt McQuaid - In his 3rd year at MSU. Bench player who can hit 3's at a 37% clip in his career.

2016:
(12) Miles Bridges - Probably did not play like his rating suggested, and is leaving MSU with a bad lasting memory for MSU fans.
(19) Josh Langford - Still not playing up to his rating; need to see massive improvements on both ends of the floor.
(31) Cassius Winston - Very good on offense, very bad on defense. Probably a 4 year player.
(42) Nick Ward - Writing on the wall; looked to be a strong 4 year player in the typical Izzo "5" position. Status is on the fritz - outlook = Europe after 2 years.

2017:
(8) Jaren Jackson - Looks like an NBA player, needs to start playing like one. Will likely go pro, but you never know with MSU players. This still holds true. Never really took over, but all the tools are there. Go pro dude. Get millions and actualy develop your game. I would say he didn't play up to his rating, with 99% of the blame on Izzo.

03/28/2018 - 7:21pm Tigers stink up the league

Tigers stink up the league and finish in last place (only 1 game worse than the CWS though!)

Tribe win the AL, Rockies win the NL. Cleveland finally wins it all this year! Cubs miss the playoffs.

03/28/2018 - 11:33am JJJ not

03/28/2018 - 11:33am OOH is the perfect player for today's NBA. he's a

OOH is the perfect player for today's NBA. he's a stretch big that can knock down 3s, block anything that comes into the paint, and is crazy athletic. Give him 2 years in the nba and he'll be borderline all star status.

03/27/2018 - 8:31pm I love that teams and

I love that teams and "experts" still think Michigan has a soft defense, then act surprised when we're physical, tough, and contest every shot.

Looking at our starting 5, no way you'd assume they are a top 3 defensive team. It's a rude awakening for opponents when they finally see us in action.

03/27/2018 - 8:20pm I was 110 pounds when I

I was 110 pounds when I played football in HS. If I ever tried to tackle with my head, I would've crumpled into a ball of broken bones. I either hit the dude with my shoulder and wrapped up behind the knees, or I tripped up their ankles and held on for dear life.

And I still broke my wrist trying to arm tackle some dudes leg. I don't see why anybody would allow a kid to learn to make plays by leading with their head with their eyes looking at the ground.

03/27/2018 - 6:44pm I think having (hopefuly)

I think having (hopefuly) Patterson could help Ruiz, since he has the most experience out of our QBs. Speight was very good at reading schemes and making calls; Peters + Kugler...not so much.

I think I like a Ruiz/Patterson combo making reads and adjustments. We can't be predictable again. We need to have somebody keep D's on their toes so they can't correctly guess every play we're going to run. And I think Patterson could go a long way in making this happen.

03/27/2018 - 4:09pm If by wiriting a war and

If by wiriting a war and peace length post, you actually mean copy and pasting the relevant Michigan section, then you can call me the modern day Tolstoy!

03/27/2018 - 3:58pm I disagree with the comment

I disagree with the comment as well. We all know conference coaches know systems and tendencies of every team in their conference. Obviously this means more on a short turnaround vs having an entire week to prepare, but nonetheless it's still a leg up.

He knows their system, he knows those players, and he knows that coach.
