He's also the Associate Head Coach
Oh my God
The M tie is a nice touch.
is one of the greatest GIF's I have ever seen.
I am always amused at people who worry about what somebody else makes. To me anyways, a person is worth EXACTLY what somebody else is willing to pay them to come to work - not a penny more or a penny less. Are move stars "worth" 10s of millions of dollars per movie? Yes - cause somebody is willing to pay it. Are baseball players "worth" 25MM a year to hit 240? Yes - cause somebody is willing to pay it. And is Brady Hoke "worth" 500K per year to coach D Lineman? Yes - cause Tennessee was willing to pay it.
Unless Brady went into the negotiations with a gun and not a pen I say good for him. He got exactly what he was worth.
who's worrying? More power to Hoke. I hope he makes as much $$$ as he can. If the guy was a dick, he likely wouldn't have gotten another quality job so soon after 2 pretty awful outcomes. He may be a good DL coach. He most certainly is a good dude.
a good DL coach. Am I in the twilight zone?
I'm unsure what side of the fence you fall on in this discussion. Hopefully the side where Hoke is an elite identifier and recruiter of DL talent.
so happy is coaching somewhere not Michigan.
I would love for him to coach our DL one day under Harbaugh. He knows DL talent and can develop the DL. Look no further than the combine. After GMatt retires, Hoke may well end up here. I'm sure most of the Michigan fans would welcome him back with open arms.
Yeah, this is all fine and dandy until they whip out the dreaded "benchmarking study" though, wherein they will compare what you and your group does to totally dissimilar group across companies in the same business and then attempt to draw conclusions from that. That's when you find them suggesting that some should be paid pennies where once there were dollars.
I don't see a lot of people worrying, but I think it's always interesting to compare intrinsic value vs extrinsic or market value. Besides, it's always fun to come here for the snarky comments and gifs.
AFAIC, anyone who had to be David Brandon's sock puppet and take the heat for David Brandon's paleolithic offense deserves to make as much money as he wants for the rest of his life.
Personally i couldn't care less what Brady Hoke makes, and certainly it doesn't "worry" me.
That said, the statement "person is worth EXACTLY what somebody else is willing to pay them to come to work" is pretty ridiculous. It assumes that there is a completely free market and that there is an inherent fairness and meritocracy at work. Anyone who lives in the real world (as I think you do, actually) knows that there are plenty of times where the odds are stacked in someone's favor and the result is an unfair system that is gamed to benefit some but not others. The end result of that: some people get paid way more than they should be, and others way less. That doesn't mean that this is what they're "worth" but rather is some combination of their worth, luck, circumstance, connections, and a host of other factors.
And how have I never seen it before?

The answer to both questions is: "because the internet"
That crazy video has over 40K hits. And now someone is pissed at Hoke for taking credit for being a masterful erhu player. He's an international villain now.
Drugs or excessive masturbation has to be the reason for this video, nothing else explains it.
Great DL coach and a great recruiter. I don't care for Butch Jones but I hope Hoke does well there.
not like he doesn't have enough money to retire. Don't see many head coaches at major university being a position coach 4 years later
I never saw a reason to doubt his sincerity when he claimed to enjoy working with college kids.
Maybe he enjoys what he's doing?
The whole "Brady Hoke is a great guy" narrative drives me insane. As far as I can tell it's based largely upon him clapping a lot and speaking in a folksy manner.
Come on man. There are a ton of ex-players who will vouch for him as a person, including guys named Brady and Woodson.
But isn't that true of 90% of ex-coaches? I'm not trying to say Brady Hoke is a bad guy. I don't know him and have no idea. I just find it really odd how often that sentiment is echoed on this board in particular.
a great guy. All of his former players seem to love him and I've read nothing about good things about him from people who ACTUALLY met him. People who clap a lot and speak in a folksy manner can also be great people, can't they? Lighten up.
Posts like this - which assume he must be deficient as a human being because he was deficient as a head coach - drive me equally insane.
That's funny, I didn't realize I said anything negative about him. Too bad, because you had a great week of practicing reading comprehension, but for whatever reason you just didn't execute when it came time to comment.
Dude, you made a dumb comment. It happens. Move on instead of going down the "everyone's an idiot but me!" well.
Maybe "drives me insane" was a poor choice of words. In reality I just find it really confusing. I'm not confused that people who have met him like him, I'm confused by the people who haven't but talk about what a great guy he is like it's an indisputable fact. Plenty of people have met Rich Rodriguez and think he's a great dude, but no one on Mgoblog brings it up apropos of nothing (and that's fine, I don't think they should, it's just the disconnect that confuses me).

I know some people who have interacted with RR and don't like him. Now, obviously there are others who do like him. But he was a polarizing guy.
Hoke OTOH was pretty much able to get along with everyone when he was here.
don't you?
A big part of the love he gets from Michigan fans is that the guy bleeds maize and blue. He is not cut out to be the head coach at Michigan, but I will always root for him. He is genuinely just a good dude.
That's like a dollar for every clap and point. Not a bad gig if you can get it.
My reaction that Brady Hoke, after the performance in his last 2 years here and last year at Oregon making half a million this year can't be summed up any better.
This and the Jags fan gif have to be two of the best gifs of all time.

Good on him!
