VSIAP: Nick Ward Says He Didn't Trip Wagner On Purpose
I don't recall anything posted on this (sorry if wrong), but Ward claims he didn't trip Wagner intentionally. His exact quote sort of disclaiming responsibility:
"I really don't think I did it on purpose."
When piled on top of Izzo's classy and gracious comment on the matter - "Wagner can be a pain in the butt, too, so let's not kid each other about what goes on here" - this is just pure gold... <3 U Sparty...

obligatory no politics comment

Obligatory, don't take yourself so seriously.

As much as I agree with the no politics rule around here, when someone lies as often and as hilariously as Conway does, I wonder if it starts to leave the realm of politics and begins to be pop culture. Kind of like Bagdad Bob.

soothsayer is someone who can see the future not someone who tells the truth btw
February 9th, 2017 at 2:24 PM ^
Actually, that's EXACTLY what "Soothsayer" means. Sooth comes from the Old English word "soþ" which means truth. Even in Shakespeare, the word "Sooth" is exchangable with the word "Truth."

That might be what a sooth sayer is but it's not what a soothsayer is. Words arent just a sum of their parts.

I did not down vote you because that was such a Toby Flenderson comment and I am assuming that you are just being true to your username.

If you read RCMB, none of those idiots think it was done on purpose, which is flat out wrong.
February 9th, 2017 at 12:30 PM ^
Unrelated, but I read some threads on RCMB yesterday after someone posted a link....
What a miserable bunch of losers. I genuinely feel sorry for them. Imagine a life so sad where your entire fandom--and existence in general--is based off of hatred of another institution that is objectively better in every way. Imagine having so much real estate in your head occupied by another school. This is why the "little brother" thing is so genuine and why it bothers them so much. It is 100% true.
February 9th, 2017 at 12:45 PM ^
You're a better man (I assume you're a man) than I because I genuinely feel no sorrow for those jaskasses, especially what we have gone through since 2008. They can all fuck off. I hope their real lives are miserable forever.
February 9th, 2017 at 1:18 PM ^
If the 2008-2015ish period had never happened, the "little brother" moniker would still ring true. The mentality carries through the difference in academics as well. Also, I've had moments in my life where I was so mentally consumed by something, I very literally could not focus on anything else. It's a very dark place to exist in, and I would not wish it on anyone. I do feel sorry for them, because some things in life are bigger in life than sports. For their fanbase and athletic programs, that mentality appears to be insurmountable.

I don't know if their inferiority complex is quite as severe as that...

Reading the RCMB is "flat out wrong," Ohio boy.

you son't say "I don't _think_ I did it on purpose" if you didn't. It's pretty simply accident or not. You know definitely whether there was intent. Saw Wagner run in front of him and kicked the leg out a little extra for a moment longer than the natural stride.

To clarify, this is aimed at the excuse, not your request for a replay.

I for one don't give a shit about the trip, thanks for the free two points though, 29 point victory looks a little bit better than a 27 point one

I wish we had beaten them by 3-9 more points.

To be fair to Ward I think there is somewhat of a chance (30%) that he just was carelessly walking. I agree with the technical foul call but just from seeing the video it is difficult to conclusively say it was on purpose (like you can with Allen's many trips).
February 9th, 2017 at 12:11 PM ^
I think the most natural viewing of the footage is that he times his walk so that he can try to trip Wagner. It definitely seems like he lengthens his stride to stick his foot out for the trip right when their paths are crossing. But that is getting into Zapruder film territory, so I think there is some possibility it was an accident. Just doesn't seem likely to me.
Anyway, there are at least 3-9 things from that game more concerning for Sparty than how intentional Nick Ward's trip was.

you did there....3 - 9 in a sly reference to the recent sparty football record - taking a shot at sparty in two ways....GENIUS

The refs came to that conclusion.

He also doesn't shift his weight to his right leg as you would if you were walking. His weight is firmly planted still, which allows him to apply the force you are talking about.

So...he's not sure?
--------------------------
"Self, did I trip Wagner on purpose?"
"I'm not sure."
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

*takes off maize tinted glasses*
I mean objectively I think it's believable that it could have been accidental. Careless certainly, but he doesn't really do anything other than walk normally, and he's not looking right at Wagner or anything.
*immediately puts maize tinted glasses back on*

Watching the video for the first time I couldn't decide if it was intentional or not. Seems plausable that he saw Wagner coming at him and thought about avoiding him and just didn't. That wouldn't be as much intentional tripping as just not trying to avoid contact.
February 9th, 2017 at 4:35 PM ^
watching the slow motion video replay, it does look like he extended his foot slightly out. So maybe it was intentional. Very hard to say.
