John O'Korn to the forefront [Eric Upchurch]

Per a source, Wilton Speight has broken his collarbone and is out for the remainder of the regular season. Depending on the exact nature of the issue it is possible he could return for the bowl game.

FWIW, when Tony Romo broke his collarbone last year he was projected to be out eight weeks, and was supposed to be out 6-8 after collarbone surgery in May. Speight had a bad collarbone break in high school—that's why he's a year older than most of his class—and may be in line for a similar surgery.

Michigan will almost certainly go with John O'Korn in Speight's stead; in scattered snaps this year he's 13/18 for 114 yards and two TDs. O'Korn's mobile enough to incorporate some designed QB runs, so we've got that going for us.

and there's reason to believe the future is bright. But before everyone pummels this guy with sarcastic "you must be fun at parties" quips, look at the situation logically. We just lost our starting QB, one game before we have to go into Columbus, a place we haven't won at in the last 7 tries. And if Michigan loses that game, they will indeed be relegated to the Citrus bowl. The most likely scenario is Wisc/PSU (BTCG) winner goes to the Rose, and OSU goes to the CFP. Or am I missing something?

gotta say that puts a damper on my CFP & National Title hopes

Edit: I guess everyone thinks that what happened to OSU a few years ago is the norm. Goodness guys. It's bad to lose your starting quarterback

There goes our national title hope. I have never heard of a team losing their starting QB in the last few weeks of the season and going on to win a natty.  Never ever happens. Ever.

Why? Speight will be fine in a few weeks. He may even be ready for the bowl game, though i wouldn't play him. Still...he'll be the returning starter next year. It will probably be competitive but with basically a full year of experience I have a hard time believing he'll relinquish the starting job.

How many times in the last 10 yrs has this happened?

Henne played hurt in 2007 and was completely ineffective throwing the ball.

Didn't the back up end up starting the 2008 game (Sheridan)?  not that it would have made a difference.

2012 or 13 Denard gets hurt against Nebraska and Gardner ends up being the starter for the rest of the year.

Gardner broke his foot in the OSU game one year but kept playing.

Last year Jake gets knocked out of the game.

Now this year.

But OTOH...

In 2001, OSU suspended Steve Bellisari for drunk driving against us.

In 2004, OSU's starter (Justin Zwick) was injured midseason.

In 2011, OSU lost Terrelle Pryor before the season and had to start a freshman.

In 2014, OSU lost Braxton Miller before the season, and J.T. Barrett during the Game.

They've just managed to weather these storms better than we have.  Fortunately, we have the luxury of a guy who's already started 1.5 seasons (at Houston) to come off the bench.
