I don't like either one, but I think ND is going to win the game.

I want Sparty undefeated and thinking they are going to win the B1G and go to the playoffs when we crush them in East Couchburning.
September 13th, 2016 at 12:32 PM ^
This +100 but it looks extremely unlikely given their next 6 games. They just don't look good enough to run 6-0 during that stretch (not to say that they are playing the Alabama's of the world).

It's simple. You have to root for the team M will play. We want MSU as highly ranked as possible when we play them.
September 13th, 2016 at 11:44 AM ^
Definitely want MSU to win this one.
Would be way better to beat them ranked in their trashy home stadium than if they have a few losses.
ALSO, remember people, Brady Hoke's epic meltdown cost us all time winning percentage against Notre Dame. If Michigan State beats Notre Dame this weekend and Michigan beats Colorado, we are only 2 games away from reclaiming it. Fat chance the Irish beat Stanford in my opinion, so by the time we play Illinois we could only be one game away.
I typically don't pull for either in this game and am happy with whoever loses, but until we get all time winning percentage back from Notre Dame (shouldn't be too long), I want the Irish to lose every single game.

Good point.

Who do I like...? Who do I like to win? I can answer the first option in a heartbeat: f*ck them both. The second... ND based on results to date...

I only clicked on this thread to see how long it would be before someone said "giant meteor" or some variation thereof. Great job at #12.

Yes. Well said. Rooting hard for ND to do poorly. Rooting harder for Sparty to do worse. Hoping for an ugly no-one-deserves-to-win game. Sparty loss means more to postseason unless we're battling a 1-loss ND for CFP which seems highly unlikely (I think ND loses another).

but they better be on guard for 'little giants, part 2'.
as a fan of college football in general, i think it could be a very good game. usually is.
as a michigan fan, i think this is the weather forecast

I'd rather beat an undefeated, top 10 Wisconsin team at home and watch MSU fans take a 5 loss season to the chin.

A heartbreaking loss to ND and then pastings by Wisconsin, Michigan, and OSU, along with a loss at home to a bad team.
September 13th, 2016 at 8:51 AM ^
would be nice, but that kind of requires the game to be close. I would prefer devastating, like they don't belong with the big boys.
September 13th, 2016 at 9:07 AM ^
I would enjoy that, but it's probably better for Michigan if it's close, because then when ND goes on to have a decent season outside of the B1G while MSU struggles inside of the B1G, it helps the B1G champion.
September 13th, 2016 at 11:29 AM ^
Not sure that Notre Dame fits in the definition of "Big Boys". Looking at last season, their best win (and only win against a ranked opponent) was against (#21) Temple. While Michigan didn't beat a top 10 team either (lest I be accused of tossing stones in a glass house), at least they won 3 games against a similar level opponent: (#22) BYU, (#13) Northwestern, and (#19) Florida.
Both teams were mediocre/bad in 2014. Even in 2012 (Manti Teo's girlfriend's favorite year), Notre Dame didn't beat an elite (top 5) team.
More like this?
Or maybe you prefer this:

If we can just take care of our own business, then it doesn't matter how many losses MSU has when we play. Just win.
And fuck MSU anyway, they're due to come back to earth for a while. Pride, fall, and all that.
September 13th, 2016 at 9:40 AM ^
It matters. If recruits see UM as an up and coming powerhouse, and also see MSU having peaked and going back to 7-5 seasons, we will get whatever in-state recruits we want over them.

S&P projections currently have MSU with a 67% or less chance of winning 8 of their remaining games, with Sparty being outright projected to lose 4 of those games (ND, MICH, OSU, PSU). Right now I would take Wisconsin over MSU, although Mork may find away to score more points than the Badgers. Maryland has played garbage but they have won convincingly. Illinois can throw the ball around and BYU has a good QB if he is healthy going into that game.
I think you're right, if they lose a couple and the psyche slips the season could get ugly for Sparty.
Edit: Not to mention Franklin will probably coaching for his job in that MSU game.

I like Notre Dame more, because 100% less Dantonio, and substantially less cover-ups for felonious players. But emotionally it's a meteor game.
For the game, I think Notre Dame likely wins. They're a bit battle-tested, and I'm not sure a bye-week helps MSU at this point of the season.
I hope MSU wins, since I'm going to the UM-MSU game and I'd like them higher-ranked when spanked.

September 13th, 2016 at 9:34 AM ^
I prefer a third option. Blowing out a decent MSU team.
I'd like MSU to come in well-regarded (with, say, 1 loss), so the UM-MSU game gets a ton of attention. Then I would like UM to absolutely pants MSU in a game broadcast on ABC with Game Week there. In a fashion that makes it clear that we're superior to both MSU and Notre Dame. In a fashion that has OSU looking over their shoulder at Michigan, rather than down their noses.
With about 10 battled-for recruits, including DPJ, watching from the sidelines in E. Lansing.
All subject to what I think of as the Hatter Caveat.
September 13th, 2016 at 8:14 AM ^
Don't really care if MSU is unbeaten when they play us, although I see the appeal (might be a bit more inclined to root for this if the game was in Ann Arbor).
I'd really like to see Sparty get the L here.
