Report: Michigan to host five-star center (BBall) Mo Bamba for official visit
"According to a report by Sam Webb, Michigan will host five-star center Mohamed Bamba for an official visit this weekend. Bamba is ranked 3rd nationally according to 247 Sports Composite and Duke and Kentucky lead his Crystal Ball projections. He’s also considering Harvard, where he took his most recent recruiting visit."

That's what she said.

Great news.

John Beilein and 5* centers. I suppose there's a first for everything.

I think he was a 4* ..consensus at least. Maybe somebody rated him 5. The two 5 stars beilein has gotten (no centers) were gr3 and irvin.

McGary was a 5* for the early part of his recruitment, then he seemed to drop. Particularly after Duke sort of appeared to pretend like they lost interest.

Right. And then he fell.
September 2nd, 2016 at 10:29 AM ^
He was a 5 star when he committed. So your point really doesn't matter.
September 2nd, 2016 at 10:34 AM ^
He wasn't when he enrolled. It'd pretty much a moot point, who cares really. Still very highly rated and was a great asset.
September 2nd, 2016 at 11:19 AM ^
Yeah, but we don't know where Mo Bamba will be ranked when he enrolls either. At similar points in their recruitment, McGary was also a 5 star. But yes, I understand that the poster above wasb't trying to make a point he was just trying to be a dick. In which case, his point was made loud and clear.
September 2nd, 2016 at 10:55 AM ^
It matters if his point was to be an ass.

Are you talking about me? Was I being an ass or "a dick?" I mean, I didn't feel like an ass or a dick when I posted some mild snark. Please accept my sincerest apologies for questioning the recruiting abilities of our head coach w/r/t 5* centers. I enjoy the hell of John Beilein and appreciate nearly every other aspect of his tenure at Michigan.
We know this:
1) McGary was a highly rated recruit. Very early 5* with offers from everyone.
2) By the time he signed with us, he was a consensus 4* without as much interest.
3) We were glad he signed with us.
4) Despite his ulitmate and maybe unfortunate inability to stay on the court, we were really glad when he played like a 5* during the 2013 tournament run.
Peeps need to relax. It's a good time to be a Michigan fan and I don't want to be the one to ruin anyone's day.

When McGary signed, he was ranked #5 or higher. His recruiting never fell off.
September 2nd, 2016 at 11:55 PM ^
Rivals = 4*; Scout =4*; 247=n/a
He fell from #2 to #20 overall....

At the time Noel was in the class behind him and McGary's rep took a hit. It didn't look so bad after Noel reclassified to McGary's class and became the #1 ranked recruit. Still he ended up in the 20s, close to 5* star territory and the recruiting battle for him was certainly that of a high 5*.

McGary was ranked higher on the composite than Irvin was. If you're gonna count Irvin you can't leave McGary out.

This is a SHIT attitude, but at this point...call me when he signs. My little heart is on strike from getting excited about MBB recruiting until we start landing some of these top guys again.

Just waiting for the "Happy Trails, Mo Bamba..." post.
September 2nd, 2016 at 10:16 AM ^
The fact he's coming here on an official visit is amazing enough, which shows a great effort by the coaches. But when you see the crystal balls favoring Duke and Kentucky as usual, it's really tough to get very excited.
September 2nd, 2016 at 12:05 PM ^
it sounds like he also wants to play school. Serious school. (Yes, Duke's there too.) And the crystal balls are before he's seen Ann Arbor. Not a sure thing, but not entirely an unsure thing either.
