Objectively speaking, this team is terrible.

Subjectively speaking,  this team is terrible.

22-0 Michigan.
Defense scores

22-0 Michigan.

Defense scores two TDs and four safeties.  Offense watches in awe.

He's "TRYING" to fit in?  I'd say he's pretty snugly entrenched after just two weeks.  Sometimes I think headline writers don't bother to read the article before tagging it.  But what a great person he is.  No ego -- the team, The Team, THE TEAM!

While the CU depth chart is

While the CU depth chart is generally hilarious, some of their personnel clearly don't fit the positions.  For example:

At "tackle" (left or right), I would have listed

1.  Rod N. Reel

2.  "Fly" Spinner

While Luca Brasi was an inspired entry at nose tackle, Vito Corleone clearly does not have the bulk to make an effective back-up.  It should have been Clemenza.

At QB,  Elmer Fudd and Danny DeVito are reasonable choices; but there's no doubt that first-string should have been Verne Troyer (Mini Me)  -- 1'10", 37 lbs.

Why are the Blues Brothers listed as the Wide Receivers.  The WIDE Receivers should have been Eric Cartman and Fat Albert, who are listed as tackles.  If they played for Harbaugh, he would have shifted them to their appropriate positions.

I would have also listed "Slot Back" as a position:

1.  Pootie Tang

2.  Gash Mann

I could go on, because this is so much fun.  But I'l let others have at it.

While I applaud this project, be aware that the crowd funding site takes nearly 10% of your donation as an administrative fee. Better to simply donate directly to Mott. But, if it helps us beat Wisconsin at something, go ahead and donate here.

Very clever. Big ups to CU

Very clever. Big ups to CU SI staff. But, honestly, they ruined it by including the "answer key" at the bottom. Most of us could have figured out 95% of the references, and for those who couldn't, there's always Google.

OK State could have avoided

OK State could have avoided the whole issue by simply having the QB roll out beyond the tackle box before heaving the ball OB. Then, all it would have had to do was cross the LOS, and no penalty for IG.

Another point:  These QB

Another point:  These QB "scrambles" (they're not really scrambles, just recognizing opportunities to run from the pocket) are much more effective against man defenses than zone.  In the highlight play, the CBs are all looking at their receivers and sticking to them like glue; and don't even realize that the QB is running until he's at least 10 yards past the line of scrimmage.  In zone D, the DBs are pretty much all facing the line of scrimmage looking to pick up receivers coming into their zone.

Sorry for the double post.

The easiest way to illustrate

The easiest way to illustrate containment is to look at the way MSU and other teams began to deal with Denard.  They slow-rushed him and basically formed a cup in front of him, forcing him to pass from a closing pocket.  The goal was to make him come to them, rather than them chasing after him; and it was very effective.

You are correct.  I was a

You are correct.  I was a freshman in 1969, Bo's first year; and even his great defenses had trouble with mobile QBs, such as Cornelius Green and Art Schlichter, who were few and far between back then.  But, with the proliferation of the dual threat QB in the last two decades -- I can remember Donovan McNab torching us in '98, along with many others -- one would think we might eventually adjust.  The problem is, we don't usually have the personnel to effectively simulate these QBs and read option offenses in practice; so when we see them in games we're unprepared.

I'm told they taste like chicken.

I had a roommate in college

I had a roommate in college who actually did eat his boogers --regularly and in public.  When I finally got disgusted enough and brought up the subject he replied, "I'm a vegetarian.  I need the protein."   I swear this is true.  We were not roommates for long.

He's the best coach in the country.  It's all his players' fault that they don't hit, run, tackle, catch, listen, remember, or observe.

I'm rooting for an earthquake to suck the stadium into a bottomless black hole.

We are going to need a ton of

We are going to need a ton of help next year from these freshmen, so why not give them experience now and start evaluating them? Don't forget -- you can still redshirt some of them next year if they don't appear ready to contribute much, based on what they do this year! They might not like it, but if they don't produce, it's a viable option.

I read that we were only

I read that we were only credited officially with one blocked kick in the game. I guess the two punts went past the line of scrimmage, so were only "deflections"; but it looked like both FG attempts were touched. So, I would think both should count as blocks.

I hope this race never

I hope this race never happens until they've both graduated. I can just see one of them pulling a hamstring.

Well, we whiffed on the Boren

Well, we whiffed on the Boren family, and they have all contributed substantially at OSU. I'm still not sure what went on there to cost us the Michigan equivalent of the Bullough dynasty. Anyone have any REAL insight?

Nice one!

Nice one!

I would have loved to see how

I would have loved to see how Harbaugh would have been bouncing off the walls after a sugar blitz from that cereal trifecta

I wonder whether there is

I wonder whether there is some "spin" going on here re: how they expected not to be able to run the ball against UCF and planned all along to feature the passing game.  I'm hoping not; but it wouldn't be unprecendented in the annals of football.

I think next week will go a long way to showing whether we are a team dedicated to establishing the Harbaugh-style run game.  And, I sure hope we have it going by the time we face PSU and Wisky.

What was the "error of the

What was the "error of the officials" that may have contributed to their 87-yard run? I don't recall that being brought during the telecast.

I've seen Jim Abbott pitch a major-league no-hitter missing one hand.  I've seen a wrestler win an NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP with ONE LEG.  How do they do it?  With heart and indomitable spirit, and strength of character that says "I am as good as anyone else and will not be defeated."

You can bet Scott Frost would not have him on the field if he were not the best player on the team at that position.  HAIL to that young man's spirit.

Why do people tend to make

Why do people tend to make comments like this only about African-American players -- as if they're surprised that the kid is actually articulate?

Everyone is overanalyzing this. Why did he say it? Because he's a douche. End of story.

No. After yesterday's less

No. After yesterday's less than spectacular performance, the staff will kick the team in the butt. And because CU is 2-0 with with blowouts, we will be ready. Still will not be easy.

Jourdan suffering a new

Jourdan suffering a new injury is bad news. We will really need him against Colorado. I wonder if practicing while recovering from the first injury led to the second. Sometimes when you start compensating you hurt another area.

Don't let 51-14 fool you. W/o

Don't let 51-14 fool you. W/o the special trends domination this would have been a much closer game. Not only couldn't the OL block for the run, they couldn't keep pressure off Speight. And the D left their OBs unattended to often. If we replicate this performance next week, it will be a disaster and Colorado won't need a Hail Mary to win.

Fitzgerald didn't even seem

Fitzgerald didn't even seem upset at the end of the game-- smiling; congratulating everybody. Almost like it was a preseason scrimmage. Very weird.

So why would the Big Chill count? It wasn't played in a hockey rink?

Cal put up 51 on the Hawaii

Cal put up 51 on the Hawaii defense. The OL looked better, but I will save any real kudos until after Colo, PSU, and Wiscy. That said, Bredenson is the real deal and Onwenu will be a beast. Good to have some depth.

Among the fine performances today, Mike McCray's has been pretty much overlooked. He was a beast. Makes me feel much better about the LB corps.

He will sign with Duke or

He will sign with Duke or Kentucky.  We will be announced as his second choice.  Sound familiar?

Hudson Video

Just watched the K. Hudson senior video.  OMG.  This is not "man against boys" -- it's "Superman against potted plants"!

The Hole in the Middle

We will be super solid up front and on the outside defensively; but the inexperience and lack of speed of the linebackers, coupled with the troubling mistakes of the safeties, will leave us very vulnerable in the middle of the field.

I expect quite a few big chunk plays against us where the linebackers get sucked in on play action or misdirection and the safeties take bad angles or miss tackles on the ensuing pass over the middle.  This may be exacerbated by even bigger holes when Brown blitzes from the middle or with a safety.

Why would you ever go to

Why would you ever go to Bible class, when you could be watching Michigan Replay?

Ira Must Go

Marcus is the most intelligent commentator on football we have had on WTKA.  His analyis is almost always spot on.  Jamie is a gas bag who knows nothing about any of the sports other than football.

But, in all these comments why does Ira Weintraub get a free pass?  His gravelly, marblemouthed voice is virtually unlistenable.  He has diarrhea of the mouth -- just likes to hear himself talk, at a mile a minute.  And he almost never has anything to say that is not obvious to everyone.  It is so bad that on days when Sam is not on the air, I actually turn to NPR so I don't have to listen to Ira.  And he's not even a Michigan fan. (Who does he root for when Maryland plays Michigan?)

So, I am officially starting the Dump Ira club.  Any joiners?

It's all about the FB, 'bout the FB . . .

1. Garvie Craw

5. Bob Thornbladh

Shuttlesworth in particular could have been great.  (BTW, you can probably tell how old I am from this list.)

Stone Hands vs. Sticky Hands

Another point:  While the Michigan pass defense has been strong, it has not actually been blanketing receivers.  Northwestern receivers dropped numerous balls that made it to their hands (including the JL pick 6).  From watching MSU film, including Rutgers, their receivers have sticky hands and will catch anything that's put on the money.  Had NU receivers been able to do that, NU would have multiple opportunities to score.  We will have to put extreme pressure on Cook to cut down on his accuracy.

Regime Change

We have reason to be concerned, based on MSU's dominance of this rivalry the past 8 years, which has led to an extreme lack of self-confidence on M's part over the years.  HOWEVER, in major rivalry series, coaching changes have proven to cause almost immediate sea changes in the way the rivalry has gone.  Take for example:

Bo's taking over in 1969, immediately reversing the utter dominance of OSU the 15 previous years;

John Cooper taking over at OSU and immediately causing OSU to go into a tailspin in the rivalry;

Jim Tressel taking over from Cooper and immediately upsetting Michigan and taking complete control of the rivalry;

D'antonio taking over at MSU and turning the perennial losers in this rivalry into an instant contender (losing the first game in overtime) and then a perennial winner (6 of the last 7).

Jim Harbaugh is just such a sea change coach.  Therefore, while I do think MSU has a good chance to win this game based on their superior talent to the teams we've been facing this year; I don't think they will win due to any lingering lack of confidence on M's part or hangover from the last 7 years.  For that reason, I believe M will win, but it will not be anywhere near a blowout and MSU will absolutely score points.

Blind Pitchers

Nick, I'm ashamed of you.  Dock Ellis to exemplify the wild, blind pitcher? I don't think so.  You should be old enough to remember Ryne Duren.  His obituary is available at the link below.  Growing up in New York City in the late '50s, I remember with glee how batters would literally shake in their cleats when he entered the game.  Read the obit and then edit your column.          http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ryne-duren-yankee-pitcher-dead-81-100-mph-fastball-glasses-mound-article-1.150702
