Greg Schiano and Tom Bradley knew about Sandusky - unsealed Mike McQueary deposition

Apparently Schiano and Bradley mentioned seeing Sandusky commit atrocities.  Sickening.  Not much more for me to add but Schiano had a quote before saying something along the lines of it being a terrible situation and fewer words would be better (perhaps b/c he knew it could be used against him at some point).

That clip of the deposition said Bradley had heard rumors about Sandusky, and reportedly knew about McQueary.

The deposition says, according to Bradley, Schiano actually witnessed an incident involving Sandusky.

They fucking covered up child abuse to save a football team.  If there isn't a more glaring example of a lack of institutional control to warrant the death penalty, I don't know what is.  Honestly, I don't know.  I guess if the school covered up a series of murders to save the football program???  To me, the raping of children is just as bad.  Fuck State Penn.

had these human degenerates - Paterno, McQueary, Bradley and Schiano, and Mr. Dumb Ass PSU Janitor- done things differently and just gone directly to the police to report a sexual assault/child rape?

10 victims, 48 counts (proven guilty of 45).

The thing people at PSU still don't seem to grasp is this:

Those 10 victims are the only ones that came forward and agreed to get annihilated in court and the press.  How many other children in The Second Mile charity were sexually abused by this monster while PSU coaches had their arms folded?  Those victims exist, and are still silent today?

We will likely never know.

That is why this horror show WILL NEVER BE OVER for Penn State.

This is why you don't get your wins back.

This is why you don't deserve an apology from the NCAA or Big Ten or ESPN.

This is why you don't sell books or beer or eye glasses trying to capitalize on a lie.

This is why you don't petition to re-erect a statue of an enabler of a callous, cruel  pedophile.

they don't grasp it because we don't (as yet) make them. They did get their wins back. They do remain in the conference. They do get to show ads with joe paterno's image during games on the conference network. They were never made to shut down the football program for a single instant And so, we are guilty as well

...it was a different time. My mother was a victim of abuse not too long before the era of the Sandusky events. Even when her memories began resurfacing in the 80's, it was still a taboo topic, just like rape and other similar crimes. Today these things are more easily found out, and a victim's silence isn't controlled by external shame the way it used to be. victims are given more respect and support than they ever used to receive.

If there is one undeniable truth I've learned as a relative of a victim to abuse, it is that there is always far more depth to these things than what we see initially. I won't go so far as to speculate, but when it comes to abusing kids, the monsters aren't just under the bed...they are in far more places than we imagine.

I sincerely hope that more comes to light. The monsters need to be exposed.

if that were true, the victims at the sandusky trials wouldn't have received death threats and, in one case, had to transfer schools due to constant shaming. Nothing changes when it comes to accusations against the public's major addiction

If I'm Penn State, I would almost welcome the death penalty for football.  The program carries the stink of all those enablers and will never (nor should it) shake the fetid stench of all those creeps who came before.  Make a clean break from that past.  Take two years off.  Scrub away the vile and start anew.  Make a fresh beginning and rise from the ashes.

Answer: Because of coach Ron Meyer, lack of institutional control and for paying football players paltry sums of cash against NCAA rules.

Meanwhile, Penn State football coaches intentionally cover up numerous counts of felony crimes by a pedophile on the staff and no problem, all is forgiven by the NCAA. Everything continues just hunky fucking dorry.

Fuck you NCAA.

And fuck you Penn State.

I think part of it is he hasn't even coached an actual game, so they have no real attachment to him. If they were coming off a national championship season where their defense was the best in the nation, I would guess the reaction wouldn't be all good. And just imagine if it were Meyer we were talking about.

As a side note, if this story proves true, we might have dodged a massive bullet when Bill Martin's discussions with Schiano about becoming UM's head coach fell apart. This would be a mess for UM if he were currently our head coach.

Wow, dodged a bullet when Canham got Bo instead of Paterno.

Potentially dodged another one when getting Hoke/Harbaugh over Schiano. This could've been a mess of epic proportions.

And Penn State wonders why the world just won't let this go? If I were them, whatever else might be left that hasn't been revealed to the public yet, come out with it right now, get in front of it, and own it.

The repercussions can't possibly be any worse than they would be if they start trickling out later. At least if you own up to it now, no one can say you were trying to hide it.

the world doesn't let it go because penn st doesn't let it go. Had they acted with sincere remorse, had they self imposed the death penalty that was befitting such a cancerous program and truly cleaned up shop, they would be forgiven this now. As it stands, there is growing urgency to remove them from the conference and for the CBAA to wade into it again and with actual balls this time

I agree with all the criticisms and shaming of PSU.  Adequate words are hard to find.

This really is an opportunity for institutions to step up and send a message that the world has changed, and that colleges can't and won't have people who do terrible things, or fail to expose those who do, in their employ.  There can't be any statute of limitations on this stuff, the question is whether you want people of this character representing your university.

OSU and UCLA need to let these guys go.  Pay them if you have to but let them go.  It is a test of what kind of university wants they want to be.  Nothing will send a better message to the coaching profession, let alone other professions, if these guys get canned.

Sadly, I doubt it will happen.

One, there's now a sworn deposition that he witnessed the abuse.

A second, there's sworn testimony that he heard about it.

The third person's name didn't come up in the deposition at all.

Do they all deserve the same punishment? If so, why?

One has to suspend all common sense to doubt that all three knew what was going on.  You don't need to filter everything through a "beyond a reasonable doubt" test.  Given all that has come out does anyone truly believe these assistants didn't know about Sandusky?  These guys were around the program for years, even decades, while this was going on.  As an employer you shouldn't bring anyone in who was near that cesspool.

As for the why-acts of omission are as bad, and in some cases worse, than as acts of commission.

...I'd use the "do I have any evidence for what I'm saying" test. I don't call the cops every time I hear a piece of gossip and I don't want to live in a society where it's a social norm to do so.

Apparently that's not true for a lot of people. There's no distinction made between knowing something, vs. hearing about it, vs. "should have figured it out"; they're all equally culpable if they didn't report it to the authorities. On the one hand I can't say I'm surprised, on the other hand it scares the shit out of me.'

So many more people than just these guys knew.  When Sandusky retired he was 55 (purely for comparsion Harbaugh is 52, Hoke is 57, RR is 53).  Sandusky was coming off some really excellent defenses yet no one gave Sandusky an offer.  I mean sure he said he wanted to focus on his charity (gag) but still that kind of coaching talent would have ADs desperate for a good coach at least throwing an offer in his direction to see if they could lucky and lure him out of retirement.  Yet he had nothing, I believe someone fairly high up was quitely letting everyone know this guy was radioactive.

Hopefully B1G drops the sanction hammer.

I seem to remember there being buzz, even back then, to the effect that Sandusky retired from being Penn State's DC because Paterno told him that he wouldn't be succeeding Paterno as PSU coach (keep in mind that Paterno was 73 years old in 1999, so people expected that he would retire in the near future). Not only that, but Graham Spanier approved a special lump-sum payment of $168K to Sandusky upon his retirement.

In retrospect, it certainly appears like both Paterno and Spanier wanted Sandusky to go away quietly, but without actually exposing his crimes or stopping him.

So this will be the excuse to get UCLA off the schedule, and meanwhile, our biggest rival will no doubt retain its DC despite evidence of the very thing paterno was fired for (knowing of the rapes and not reporting it) Although i suppose court testimony is not being caught quite so red-handed as the email revelation in paterno's case

at that craphole in Tragic Valley, and I didn't think that was even possible. Either way, that hire of Schiano by Meyer seems to have seriously backfired. I wonder if Shaun Wade is gonna flip to us now

To nobody's surprise, both Schiano and Bradley are denying everything that just came out.....

Does 'committing attrocities' count as a legit reason to suspend 'adult response?'  I thought Schiano was a tough guy and IF he did witness the events, why didn't he kick the shit out of Sandusky.  IF there were witnesses, the location must have been public, at least to a degree.  Sandusky was asking to get the shit kicked out of him.

Hell, I kicked the shit out of my cousin when I saw him eat a booger.  I can imagine what I'd do now.

Edit:  I'm still angry about this one.

IF indeed these events were witnessed, NO ONE took personal responsibility for the safety of the kids.

What is the phrase...oh:  Edmund Burke:  The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

I'm going to go drive a few nails now....

I have no idea why, but 20 pages of McQueary's August 2015 deposition testimony (where he makes the claims about Schiano & Bradley) were NOT released in today's document release.  Note the "jump-start" from page 45 to page 66.

https://fjdefile.phila.gov/efs/temp/39vM5SbF.pdf

In assessing the truth here (as this has now become "McQueary vs. Schiano/Bradley"), it would be interesting to see that missing testimony.  I guess the court has their reasons, however, for withholding those 20 pages.

i think it's worth noting that it's not just that "it was so much harder to come forth back then," but Schiano is actively denying it now "I never saw abuse, nor had reason to suspect any abuse, during my time at Penn State" So if he is lying today...

A lof of assumptions have been taken here to condemn Schiano and Bradley.

1. Assumption that McQueary is telling the truth. Perhaps he is but nobody would deny that he has major beef with PSU. He has been on a mission to trash PSU as much as possible to help himself sleep at night for his own crimes. He is fortunate to not be behind bars right now, but this guy is a source we all put our trust in?

2. Assumption that Bradley was telling the truth if the conversation that McQueary alleges  actually happened. Now, why would a prima donna coach (bradley) speak false gossip about another prima donna coach (Schiano)? Maybe because Bradley hated his prickly co-worker Schiano (I would and so did everyone on the Tampa Bucs). Maybe because Bradley wanted to make himself look more informed in front of McQueary. Maybe Bradley is just a dick. Who knows. We all know idiots at work that gossip or trash us behind our back.

At the end of the day a lot of people will have killed Schiano's reputation because of this line of reasoning:  " Mike McQueary said that Tom Bradley said that Greg Schiano said he saw abuse in the early 1990's." Yep, that is overwhelming evidence. And since Larry Johnson was there for the last three years of Sandusky's tenure, lets go ahead and indict him too. I'll be the first to condemn Schiano if more evidence suggests he saw abuse. What happened at PSU was a tragedy and they deserved the death penalty from the NCAA. But we shouldn't condemn anyone because some proven scumbag (McQueary) alleges something. Hopefully we learn more and Schiano is either cleared or wrecked if it is proven that he saw something and didn't immediately go to the police. I doubt anyone here actually wants the facts though since some are still spinning a story that Urban Meyer had an affair with some coed. A story so revealing  that every newspaper and reporter in the country decided that it wasn't worth pursuing. Writers must not want clicks anymore. Weird.
