If that is true manuel should just go ahead and resign now unless it came with an announcement that msu is playing at michigan in 2018 now.

I think our experience with Brandon really gave us all flash burns when it comes to AD decisions. This is a faux pas. Not resignation worthy. Now, if Mr. Manuel announced that student ticket prices would rise for 2018, and that the Michigan marching band was disbanded...then yeah. But aside from MLive commenters, there's only one man that stupid.

And if it's true we are giving up a home SEC game for this, ND is completely raping us. They have two open weeks, and can't move Ball State to one of them?

So we are going to play @ND @MSU and @ OSU in 2018? How fucking stupid can Warde Manual be? We are going to wipe our ass with 2 million dollars to get rid of Arkansas and replace it with a road game at fucking ND...I am so mad right now.

Seems like it would have to be more than $2M.  If its $2M just to back out of the Arkansas series, you also need to factor in trading a home game for a road game, which I think is in the $5-10M range.

We are trading a home and away with Ark for a home and away with ND, so if you are factoring trading a home game for a road game then you will also have to factor trading a a road for a home game in a later year. That plus the fact that the series with ND will be a bigger draw,(tickets and merchandising) so the $2m cost would probably be much less if you factor that in.

It still pisses me off though, they got over on us when they cancelled the last series with getting 1 more home game than us, and now we are paying a buyout to ARK for what I can only see as convenience for ND, it's fucking pathetic.

we are in an abusive relationship and keep going back instead of just leaving the asshole and moving on. wonder how long before Michigan and Delaney start courting ND to join the conference again. it's been about 10 years which is right on time..

This makes us look like we are bending over for them. How the fuck do you allow something like this to happen after the last game was played in South Bend.

I have to say... Warde Manuel has been a huge disappointment so far. He should get the same heat over this that Brandon got for allowing MSU to have two straight home games.

I am fine with this rivalry resuming (it was probably inevitable that it would given the internal support as well as support from alums and donors), but if these had been the other way around and we had 2018 at home with 2019 on the road, that seems like it would have been much nicer, because then we only have Nebraska, Penn State and Maryland at home so far that year and....that's pretty "meh" as conference home schedules go. A high-profile OOC game at home would make up for some of that.

Without Arkansas, we still have two spots in the OOC schedule to fill as well, I think, if Notre Dame is taking that spot.

Why did we rush back into this rivalry? Yeah it's fun to play Notre Dame. But, we could have scheduled them again 10 years from now. We have excellent home and away series with programs around the country. We don't need to play Notre Dame. What the fuck.

Why, why would we ever agree to play at Notre Dame in even years when we already have to go to MSU and Ohio State? It literally makes zero sense.

I'm wondering if maybe we are still playing vs Arkansas in 2018 but cancelling the return trip in 2019. From a contract standpoint, I am not sure if that is even possible but that is the only way it makes any sense at all (and even then, it doesn't make much sense).

WTF?  This is the worst possible way to bring ND back!  Why can't ND move Ball St?  Who the hell is Ball St, anyway?

If this proves true, and MSU doesn't move to a home game in 2018, then Warde's time is up so far as I'm concerned.  He hasn't done very much that I agree with yet, anyway...

I realize we are in this situation largely due to Dave, but this kind of reeks of Warde screwing the pooch. This makes it look like UM needed ND, more than ND needs UM. I would have rather had him walk into the meeting and say, "So, you want to put us on your schedule again? Then join the fucking B1G." And just walk out the door.

A colossal fuck up if true.  What is the point of having this series if it means ND/MSU/OSU are all on the road?

Dave Brandon move all over again. Give up $2 million dollars, give up a home game and the revenue, and top it off go on the road vs our 3 biggest rivals in one year. CLOWN MOVE DUDE

I can't think of anything he's done right so far, except for supporting Harbaugh on satellite camps. No night games because he doesn't like them, he practically begs Red to come back because he doesn't have time to search for a new coach and now schedules ND on the road in 2018. We should've hired Bates or Parker.

2018, at ND, at OSU, and at MSU? Who cares? Harbaugh's machine will be an absolute juggernaut by that time, as we'll be working on our third NC in a row.

Relax, fellas.

No seriously WTF?  Is this for real?  Is Manuel drunk?  Or just an unbelievable idiot?

This can't be real right?  No one could possibly be this stupid.

Here's the complication:  in the Big Ten, Michigan will have 5 home & 4 away in even years, 4 home & 5 away in odd years.

If Michigan's going to add a perma-opponent, it would make more sense to play that opponent at Michigan in odd years and on the road in even years.  That way, Michigan still has the flexibility to schedule an away game in any year.

If they went the other way, and ND were at Michigan in even years, then Michigan would not be able to schedule any other road non-conference games during odd years (assuming that Michigan needs more than 5 home games in a year).

You're exactly right. In ND is home game 5 after the 4 B1G games. Doing it this way opens more flexibility with filling the holes in 2018-2019. ND away in 2019 would almost require two tomato can home games since there would be 6 committed away games.

The problem is having MSU/OSU in sync. That's the real issue.

Side note: I've thought all along that the MSU switch was a cynical move to punt even years in favor of a easy odd year schedule to set us up for a playoff run. In my view, Brandon and Hollis conspired, admitting that winning on the road is near impossible. Of course MSU did last year so anything is possible.

drjaws

but I don't mind it being a road game.  6 home and 6 road games that year.  Then we get MSU, OSU and ND at home in 2019.  2019 will be Harbaugh's second national title.

Also, don't see why we can't move Arkansas to the open date as it is their open date as well.  Why blow $2 million to shit-can the game when it can be moved a week?

I'm sure this was the only way they would play us. Whats better? Their going to abruptly drop the series so they have the last home game again. What a bunch of wanna bees.
