Michigan-Notre Dame to resume in 2018!
This is excellent news in my opinion. And so soon! As noted below, this will require a schedule adjustment for Michigan -- seemingly Arkansas will be cut -- in 2018. The tweet:

I had a dream that UM would get a chance kick their ass in a playoff game first. My dream is alive for two more years. That being said...to hell with Notra Shame.
they're independend. Loosely affiliated with the ACC for their other sports and they certainly wouldn't condescend to join another conference.
giving them an accommodation keeps them relevant. I'm convinced that if they joined a conference, they'd get their asses handed to them like Penn State.
Let's not pretend that ND doesn't play a really tough schedule every year. This year they're playing Texas, Michigan State, Duke, Stanford, Miami (The U), Virgina Tech, and USC...
it has to do with the an independent team being granted the privilege of playing Michigan. This goes back to the days of Fielding Yost.
Look, I don't mind playing ND in the regular season again but not every year and not with taking a fucking 2 million dollar hit, I hope Warde Manuel negotiated the hell out of this deal to our advantage.
ND sees not having us on their schedule lacks a certain luster and not knowing if/when USC will be back on top or if Stanford will sustain their program to where our great coach got them to, the ACC schedule where they don't have to play FSU or Clemson every year ain't gonna get it done for playoff considerations.
I'm just really not thrilled about this, I want to play other great programs while we play in one of the toughest divisions in any conference.
2 years on and 2 years off would have been okay I guess, but whatever.
If the rumor is true and Arkansas gets cut, that would be a shame because they might have been really solid by then. Frankly, I get little pleasure watching us blow out poor OOC teams. This year's OOC schedule is a joke amd while it may pad our stats, with the price of tickets, I'd rather play good teams, even if you lose one on occasion.
If we are as good as most of us think we are going to be under Harbaugh, beatng ND will help us with NC playoff consideration.
At least we'll get the home game in 2018 to offset the road games against MSU and OSU. Brandon would have allowed ND to have the home game because he just considered fans whiney.
Brandon would tell you he knows what the fans want (when in actuality he was living some sick fantasy of doing whatever he wanted).

We'd still have to play at Arkansas in 2019.
There are two open dates on the schedule in 2019.
Michigan is not going to play at Arkansas in 2019 and pay them 2mil to not come to the big house. Either the whole series will be bought out or Michigan will play there and the home game will be cancelled with no buyout.
So far the only thing that's being mentioned is the 2018 game being cancelled.

We'd only have five home games if we went to Arkansas in 2019. There is zero chance that happens.
He'll be more pissed off about not getting to eat at Culver's than the game here being cancelled.

I'm starting to have some concerns.
This place is probably the only place in the world where fans rant and rant about other schools (Michigan State, Notre Dame, etc) then try to say how stale, uninteresting, or irrelevant those programs are. The Irony.
Notre Dame, much to the chagrin of the fanboys here, is THE college program EVRYONE pays attention to. That's why the ACC kisses their butts, and that's why they are the Harlem Globetrotters of the NCAA. That's why they are allowed to have an easier path to the Final Four of CFB.
And THAT'S why Michigan ignores the little 12 year old minds here and plays them. It's a Big Time game between two Big Time Schools and Big Time Rivals who have along history of politicking and hatrted between them.
Why that doesn't register here is beyond...oh, wait, nevermind.
It's not as if The Irish don't come into Michigan to compete for recruits; it's not as if they don't already play other Big Ten teams; it's not as if the B1G wouldn't LOVE to have them in the conference; it's not as if they aren't relevant and popular enough to have their own TV deal...
But it is. If it "bores" this place, it must be a good thing, and if it does "bore" you--well, you simply are not a college football fan and just don't get it.
I hope I never get so bored, I log onto a site for one day to share it with the world. And if it's true ND could be in this conference if they so wanted, I wonder, no I don't - why they are 0-3 for each time they've petitioned to do so. But then again, they are represented by 12 year old kids who grab their parents computers from time to time and spoil it for all. Bye now.
It's not going to look like M is afraid to play Arkansas. ND has been pretty strong for the past several years under BK, whereas Arkansas has been losing to MAC teams. If M was afraid to play Arkansas, we would replace them with EMU.
Here's what it's going to look like: M decided it would rather play ND than Arkansas, so M said "whatever Bert" and dropped them from the schedule.
There isn't a program in the country that wouldn't trade a series against Arkansas (low tier SEC team) for a series against ND, not only because ND is a much more appealing opponent (and rival in this case), but ND is a much better program right now. Usually you don't appear afraid for cancelling a mediocre program to play a very good program.
and to trueblue2003, we'll see how long ND stays competitive when Brian Kelly leaves for the NFL, you just know that's his goal.
When he leaves we'll see who'd want to take that job and deal with the BS of being coach there while not being in a conference thus making them ineligible to play in the ACC CG and making it even tougher to make the playoffs.
Unless when Kelly leaves they somehow convince Urban to be their coach but good luck prying him from OSU.
to people talking about wanting Arkansas over ND which is totally insane. This is only about a two game series. There's no plans for anything beyond that right now.
Also, you're first two sentences about Kelly leaving for the NFL and who will want that job are the exact things many, many people say about Harbaugh and us. It's speculation. And it's mostly irrelevant to 2018 and 2019. Also, it's easier for ND to make the playoffs without a conf championship game. All they have to do is lose one or fewer games. Everyone else has to lose one or fewer and still win a conf champtionship.

We were also mediocre more often than not over the last 12 times we've played.
And, with a little research, rather than just pretending Michigan has been some gargantuan elite monster, here's what you can find:
This "mediocre" Notre Dame team is 5-7 against Michigan in that span (not bad, big teams usually go 50-50 against each other)
Since 2000:
Michigan: 129-72
Notre Dame: 125-75
Dude..Afraid to play the SEC..are you fking kidding me. When did Florida leave the SEC? Hell all off-season Harbaugh has been playing the SEC like a set of well worn congas.

were drinking buddies at Michigan. We all worked together at the Big Ten Network (I'm currently a Naval Officer), and this is a big break for them. Congrats and Go Blue to some recent alums!
We have an open date on the 8th, and Arkansas doesn't have a game that day, so why not play both? (Notre Dame could move Ball State to the first weekend and come to AA the second, instead, if Arkansas doesn't wantr to move their game with us). Think about how hot tickets would be that year, given that we also play Wisconsin at home that year!
This is a HUGE bummer for me. I'm all for the ND series (although the only game I've been to in my adult life was the last one at ND....talk about a bad trip.) but at the expense of Arkansas?
I get it, they're not a perennial power house but they're an SEC school, they have a RABID fanbase and it's another good chance to get exposure down here in SEC country.
Selfishly, I also want it to happen so I can drive 2 hours and watch Michigan play. Also, like 15 people I know were planning on making the trip up to AA in 2018 to watch the game. We've been looking at houses to rent for the weekend already. Sincerely hope Arkansas isn't left in the cold with this deal.
That does not make much sense. Not a good move by the athletic department. I'm sure Arkansas is loving it. Get 2 million bucks and just schedule an easy home game and make even more money. Smart move by them.
