Michigan-Notre Dame to resume in 2018!

Submitted by LS And Play on

This is excellent news in my opinion. And so soon! As noted below, this will require a schedule adjustment for Michigan -- seemingly Arkansas will be cut -- in 2018. The tweet:

Source: #Michigan and #NotreDame to announce their football rivalry series will resume play in 2018. Announcement expected tomorrow.

It's gonna be 2018-2019 and then take a break, unless Michigan starts cancelling everything.

2020 non-conference is already set.

  • 9/5 at Washington
  • 9/12 vs Ball State
  • 9/19 vs Virginia Tech

2021

  • 9/4 Open Date
  • 9/11 at Virginia Tech
  • 9/18 vs Washington

While I'm sorry to see that Arkansas seems like it will get pushed off the schedule, it was not a marquee game IMO - just a potentially good one.  Texas and Oklahoma are match-ups of historic programs.

Also, I wonder if Arkansas will agree to reschedule their game rather than take the $2M.  Seems to me that there's more upside to an Arkansas - Michigan game to Arkansas than to us.  Our program is historically shinier and currently shinier.

They def weren't "good" in his last four years, but they won bowl games in three of them and went 8-5 in the other. So by my definition, I'd say they were still "decent". Other could disagree on that definition.

you know if they were in such a hurry to start this in 2018 they will cancel everything. Hell they'll probably cancel both washington and va tech for good measure. I mean it's not like they had an open date and mid major SMU in 2018 or anything

Arkansas is like the Minnesota/Indiana of the SEC. No comparison to ND.

We should have Notre Dame 2 on, 2 off type of deal. Or 2 on, 4 off, but regardless, it's an important game to play. Harbaugh thinks so himself, as does Hackett; I trust them plus the historic, national-attention grabbing nature of the rivalry.

Arkansas has never won an SEC title. Ever.

They joined in 1992, so kind of recent, but both Wisconsin and Michigan State have multiple Big Ten titles since 1992. And it's not like the SEC was the best conference in the 1990s, or very early aughts, like it is today.

So not quite like MSU/Wisconsin historically and certainly not contemporarily.

MSU hasn't come close to hitting the 600 number yet. IIRC AR is around 22-25 and I think WI is closer to them. I wouldn't even know about MSU if it weren't for their fans and the noise they've made lately. In fact, that's how I know about- won't try to quote it - but WI's and ARK both have superior numbers. We aren't the only fan base they screw with. They were making noise at the Badgerts too.  They shouldn't do shit like they do. They always forget most people are only a keystroke away from google.

Uh guys..........I just looked at 2019 closer.........how in the fuck is this going to work?

If we get the home game in 2018, that'd be logical but the thing is we'd only have FIVE home games in 2019.

If we don't get the home game in 2018.......we'll have to play all 3 rivals on the road AGAIN.

there wouldn't be a $2 mil buyout then and that would be i think unprecedented to cancel the home game but not road. UM would never do this. Some of us had hoped to sneak in ND in 2018/19 and keep arkansas, but if cancelling arkansas, they will fill the open dates with tomato cans, which is even more disappointing do they think no one will notice this or give a damn?

YES!!!!!

Love this rivalry. Nothing quite like beating those pompous assholes. Plus, nice to have an academic rival bc obviously MSU/OSU are not up to snuff in that regard.

GO HARBAUGH AND HACKETT AND WARDE!

My wife took this photo while on vacation. The people were nice enough, until you started talking football. Given the news, this seems appropriate...

I agree with most here that I'd hate to see us cancel all these series we have with the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, and UCLA to accommodate ND. But I will be excited to play them again as both programs are in much better shape than they were the last several years we played.

After the way they cancelled the series, making sure to sneak in one more home game to an uneven number of meetings...GOD, I'm sorry but I don't see this as exciting news. I didn't mind starting the series back up again, off and on, in a few years but I was looking forward to this break from them to play some new blood for a while. First game better be at the big house. Fuck Notre Dame.

And I think it is; that's why I posted as I did. However, when Brandon is involved be careful.

He claims he reache out to a fellow by the name of Jim Harbaugh prior to hiring Brady Hoke. The only truth in that is he spoke to Harbaugh before hiring Brady Hoke. WE could have had a three year bump instead of an extended work zone. I just don't trust Brandon for Brandon's sake. He is one of Bo's failure, and it's not your fault coach. Even the son you work hardest with will disappoint because all people just aren't wired the same.

Was looking forward to a break from ND for at least a few more years.  Was also looking forward to playing Arkansas and other schools we don't usually play.

Sigh.  I really don't understand the obsession some in our fanbase have with playing ND.  Yes, it's cool cause we're both historical schools and all that, but we should be playing them occasionally, not all the damn time.

I consider this news displeasing.
