Jabrill Injury Rumor?

Submitted by MGoSwilly on

TIFWIW- Friend of mine who is an alum just sent me a text saying that his relative treated Jabrill Peppers at an Ann Arbor hospital after he punched glass and tore a ligament in his arm/wrist. Apparently out for the bowl game. Still nothing being reported, but just thought I'd pass it along. Apparently he has been seen in a cast around campus.

This is a rumor on Penn State's 247 site. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I am no surgeon, but that is a fair amount of damage to repair. The bones will heal quickly but the torn ligament will take 12 weeks to recover from surgery to full strength and then another 2-4 months for full range of motion following PT. I tore a PIP joint ligament in my ring finger and it took 6 months of PT to heal after which I had to wear a buddy sleeve for an entire year. It is totally fine now. Jabrill is a kid compared to me, so he will heal quicker and will be back 100% but it could take 4-6 months. Spring practice could also be in jeopardy, but he should be good for 2016 fall camp.

Odd they would release this rumor on a Penn State board, but okay.  Who knows if it's true.

I mean the DJ Durkin rumors seemed to be odd so anything is possible.

Pretty selfish to hurt the team like that if true.

Really disappointing situation, especially considering some of the negative rumors that are floating around campus as to why/where/when this happened.

Peppers was one of the keys to beating this stout Florida defense in my opinion.

I'm sure they'll be out soon enough.  I, however, will not be the one to spread unsubstantiated rumors that I overheard on the internet.

The people that were talking about it were hardly the type you'd expect to have inside information on something like this.  At least what they were claiming happened was a lot less severe than what I've seen on here so far.  So who knows.

Ah, yes. Jabrill is now beholden to all of us (the Michigan fan base) because of his prodigious talent. "Selfish" for risking our happiness over his own personal issue.

What a load of bullshit. Jabrill owes us nothing. I hope he makes wise decisions for his own sake, not due to some perceived obligation to people who have done literally nothing for him.

Missing the bowl game is a bummer and all, but does anyone else not think that's a big deal? It's not a playoff game or a rose bowl or anything like that. I hope we win, of course, but it's literally the least important game of the season.

National Perception is huge when it comes to recruiting.

A win against the SEC East Divisional Champion would be huge, especially when recruiting against the University of Florida in the future.

Florida's defense is the best Michigan will face this season.  Peppers injury is huge.

This isn't just a tune-up game.  You'd be foolish to think that this game isn't important in the coache's, player's, and recruit's eyes after losing our DC and getting blown out by OSU at home.

This game could be seen as a step back in the right direction.

No it doesn't really matter any more when it comes to reaching your goals. Perception only really matters when you're recruiting IMO, and we've been winning plenty of recruiting battles. It's time to start winning battles on the field and it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks of our team. If we win our games, we'll be in the playoff. That's all I really give a shit about.

Yes. Pretty much take yourself out of the playoff picture. That should be our goal. If I have a choice between losing to Florida, or say central Florida next year, I'll take the loss in a couple weeks. Frankly, you'd be stupid not too.

Without Jabrill and several other starters.  It's much harder to beat Florida with Jabril out.  I get your logic with losing to a terrible team, but realistically this game is much more important for recruiting and the direction of the program compared to a terrible September team.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Even if I had the choice of having Jabrill for one of the two games, I'd still take him against Central Florida next year. IMO this game will do little in changing the perception of UM. I doubt UM losing will effect the decision of any recruits. These bowls are fun to watch, great for the extra practice time, but as I stated below, the only post season I really care deeply about is playoffs. Any other bowl game is a consolation prize.

If this happens during UNLV week, Peppers misses as least half the season. This is not a one week injury if the report is true. Not great to have him miss the bowl, but I would rather take that than have him miss a chunk of the regular season.

Yes. It was more important for Michigan to beat UNLV than to beat Florida. Losing to UNLV would have been an embarrassment and reintroduced the Hokian tradition of losing to shitty teams. It would have sunk us in the polls and might have put the team on tilt for the conference season. Losing to Florida at worse hurts our rank next year and maybe, maybe, hurts recruiting. It's a pretty low stakes game.
