OT - Rumblings in the Bayou
Les rumblings getting loader and louder, now supposedly holding a "special team meeting"

People forget that Les is a midwest guy because he's been down south for so long. But if you listen to him speak he still sounds like he lives in Ann Arbor for the most part. I think he'd fit in just fine out there.

Miles to USC, book it. The reality show/sitcom potential of Les in LA is just too much to pass up.
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:48 AM ^
Miles at the other USC would be pretty great too.
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:51 AM ^
Only if they made Spurrier AD. That has "Work place comedy" written all over it.
November 23rd, 2015 at 6:48 PM ^
You'd need to make the AD someone up tight, have Les be the wild main character, and Spurrier is like the SID who is Miles crazy friend. The AD would need to be Roger Goodell or something like that
Goodell: "Les! You can't go streaking at the Lakers game"
Spurrier: "He sure as shit can't by himself. That's why I'm going too!"
November 23rd, 2015 at 12:22 PM ^
Miles & Snoop would make some epic recruiting videos.
November 23rd, 2015 at 12:15 PM ^
Who replaces Lee? Less of Spurier? There is just no wrong answer. Of course, ESPN will probably hire someone else.
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:23 AM ^
i guess they're saying jimbo fisher would be the frontrunner for the opening? that would be crazy

But Jimbo is a good 'ol boy in ways that Les never can be. That sort of thing matters a great deal in the land of Dixie.
November 23rd, 2015 at 12:16 PM ^
This sounds like an agent who wants a payday.
November 23rd, 2015 at 6:51 PM ^
His players can do whatever they want and no one inside of Tallahassee cares. He can get in front of the press and say "Ya'll. Jameis is just a sweet young man who would never hurt a fly" and everyone just eats it up down there
Might be the same in Baton Rouge but why risk it?

If their smart they actually land Herman

THEIR wish list isn't the only funny thing.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:03 AM ^
Dabo might make the jump to LSU if offered, but I will not be surprised if he does not; he seems to love Clemson. Patterson? eeeehhhh, no. Jimbo likely not. Gruden - good god, man. The sooner people realize that Gruden will never coach in the NCAA, the better. That guy loves his job first of all and is an NFL guy until he dies.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:51 AM ^
It is so much easier to win in the ACC. Dabo pretty much has a two or three-game season every year at Clemson. Why would you trade that for the unrealistic LSU expectations with a schedule against the SEC West + Florida every year?
November 23rd, 2015 at 7:35 PM ^
Dabo won't leave Clemson for any job except 'Bama. He's waiting for Saban to retire/die/malfunction. If Clemson wins the natty this year, he'll have a pretty compelling credential on his resume. If, after the Saban era ends, 'Bama hires someone else, then he'll entertain other offers. But as of now, it's 'Bama or bust for Swinney.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:39 AM ^
leave. What do you think they are willing to pay a new coach? I'd be surprised if they aren't prepared to make the right guy the highest paid coach in CFB. That's probably what they think they need to do to beat Alabama.
They might be wrong about some of the names on their list, but they aren't hiring an up and coming young coach who isn't yet proven.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
is where in the fuck do LSU boosters get that kind of money? Is shrimpin' really that lucrative?

black gold, Texas tea.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:58 AM ^
But that conflicts with my image of Louisiana being populated almost exclusively by uneducated Cajun rednecks, each with fewer than 10 teeth.
November 23rd, 2015 at 2:17 PM ^
good school, decent law & engineering schools who have done well in the o&g business.
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:45 AM ^
Personally, I think they are nuts for potentially firing Les.
I know everybody doesn't share the same view around here. The guy is one of the top coaches in CFB (Better than Jimbo IMO)
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
LSU needs to invest in a better quarterbacks coach and find a quarterback that can actually throw. They've always had a great running game but I can't recall a single LSU QB that actually beat the opponent with his harm.

I'd say it's fairly damning that Miles had Mettenberger, Odell Beckham, and Landry and I still can't ever recall LSU being known for any sort of passing offense. They feel like a more exaggerated version of the old conservative Lloyd Carr offenses. Like "you had all the weapons and that's the best you could do with them? Goodness"

does some weird things on offense and I think they kind of trip over their own feet. The straight "pitch" the halfback running essentially over center is a particularly odd play that is called a lot and never, ever, works.
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:42 AM ^
was #1 overall draft pick but that was about 10 years ago.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:34 AM ^
Spot on, however, wasn't he sort of like tebow in terms of he was a good fit for the wacky offense Les ran, but was not a real drop-back pro style qb.
November 23rd, 2015 at 1:11 PM ^
as well...but he was a head case.

The timing may not have worked out. Miles might not have done poorly enough in 2014 to get fired.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:48 AM ^
that if 8 of Miles' years were at San Diego and Stanford, that wouldn't be the case.
November 23rd, 2015 at 1:51 PM ^
Could have transitioned to Harbaugh, or we could have missed the opportunity to ever get Harbaugh forever.
November 23rd, 2015 at 6:59 PM ^
Ask your 2007 self: Would you go through seven years in the wilderness to get possibly the best coach in football, or get Miles right now and possibly miss out on that guy later?
I bet about 100% of people would've said Miles in 2007, but being where we are now we're better off having waited for Harbaugh

has issues with the NCAA or so I thought.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:10 AM ^
I think his show cause is over, meaning he can come back anytime he wants.
I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:17 AM ^
Kelly, now with the Philadelphia Eagles, did however receive an 18-month show-cause penalty, meaning any university that hires him will have to present its justification to the NCAA Committee of Infractions before doing so. Unless Kelly bombs after just one season with the Eagles and he seeks an entry back into the college game, this won't be an issue.

Herman lost to UConn on Saturday. I doubt LSU offers him the job. You don't fire Les Miles unless you have someone like Jimbo Fisher lined up.
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:52 AM ^
It's one game. Herman is a great coach and other people know that.
