Rudock Hate

Submitted by KRK on

I'm and old MGoBlogger.  I'm still an advocate for Haloscan.  I loved the WLA and posted a few things there.  I think RR was a great hire that just didn't pan out.  When I graduated from college this blog switched to Drupal and it was harder to post, the community changed and I found myself with a job that kept me too busy to post.  This blog is great, the community is too.  There's posters that aren't amazing and have horrible opinions but it's so much better than when I was here and we just handle-jacked each other all day.  It's been a rough 8 year for those of us who are still around and I remember watching UM football as a person old enough to think "this isn't what I watched as a kid".  I'm 30 years old now.  And I watch Rudock and think "this is so nice....he doesn't lose every game".  I read Bacon's book and everyone of Devin Gardner's stat lines included two picks.  I loved Devin and think he was such a great player who just was in the right place at the wrong time.  But Rudock is so much less talented and so much more solid than he is.

Please stop saying "if he could throw a deep ball we'd be a top 10 team".

Please stop saying "if we had a real QB we could be Ohio State"

Please stop forgetting that most people thought 8-4 was a good season this year.

This team has performed exactly as expected.  Rudock may have more picks than expected but those are mainly from the first game and that was just a better team.  He and this team will be good, not great.  I'm excited too but let's not act like this team are defending national champs returning 22 starters.  They are basically what everyone expected.  2-1 with a winnable game against a good BYU team.  They've improved and have a chance to be competitve against everyone they play.

Hate Rudock if you want but don't act like it's been better around here the past 7 years.

Really inaccurate and the interceptions are disappointing from someone who was supposed to be a boring game manager. Add in the frustration that there just are no better qb's and an inability to blow out one of the worst D1 teams in the country and this is what you get. There is still a lot of anger about how little has been done with the amount of talent people think should be in the program and its going to find a target in a QB not playing up to expectations. I feel for Rudock but the interceptions are out of control and it's killing the expectations I had for the team with him at the helm.

I don't think there were that many "misses." Just that there were that many players who were misdeveloped and poorly coached up. Lots of wasted redshirt seasons, and things of that nature. But when you have Juniors and Seniors who are just now receiving proper coaching, that can cause issues.

Oh shut the fuck up! Seriously! "It's been better than the last 7 years". That doesn't make it good. He is mediocre at best and your little hype story isn't going to make me feel any different.

Double reply to Rabbit & Dillon - Dillon YOU STFU, don't ever come on this blog & yell someone to STFU again! At least make a semi-coherent point if you're gonna bother posting AT ALL! This is our lives you're wasting with that rude, inarticulate, rude, immature, (did I say rude yet) BS?
Rabbit, what hopes DID you have for this year? Unrealistic much? Overly optimistic at all? Quit while you're AHEAD ever?
Let's all agree we're not winning the Natty with Rudock, and steep odds against beating either msu or osu (that osu)... were we REALLY EXPECTING more in year 1??!!
Hoping, okay, but expectations?

I miss handlejacking.  Brian, can we somehow modify the software to bring that back for one day or something?  I'd like to post a few messages as WD.

Not buying it. Drek Rudock has made some bad decisions and even worse passes. A game manager doesn't make multiple bad decisions per game. Surprisingly, he's had more than ample time to go through progressions on pass plays but still locks on to one guy and throws a shit ball. Hoping he will grow and turn things around otherwise get used to 8/9 in the box during conference play.

Interceptions are an unfortunate surprise (though he is in a new system, I suppose).  I think the passing game doesn't look spectacular because it doesn't have to right now, the run game was getting the job done this week and last week.  No reason to throw the ball if they can't stop you on the ground really.

Sure, there's room for a ton of improvement though.  I would concede that.

"Hate Rudock if you want but don't act like it's been better around here the past 7 years."

I will say that people say a lot of weird, emoitional shit during games - just look at the open threads and the liveblog, but I think also that there is a realization among most people that 2015 is essentially baselining the Harbaugh era at Michigan. He's working with what's here and - in his opinion to which we ultimately defer, I think - starting the players that maximize Michigan's chances of a win. What that says about Rudock and the state of the offense is up to individual interpretation (it could and should be better, I agree), but it is pretty clear that the staff believes this is the best road right now. The OP is right, however, in my opinion - what you're seeing right now, even if it looks ugly at points, is overall miles above some of the performances of recent years. I'll take it.

Not to be "that guy", but this dude is a student at the university you root for. He may not be the best quarterback in the world but Jesus Christ you don't have to call for his head. What will you say when he improves over the year, which he will, and leads us to big wins? My god.

He was screamingly wide open and Rudock seemed to stare at him...not sure what he was thinking/expecting, but the ball was way late and way behind him. His second worst throw was the INT. there were other late throws and throws behind receivers, but those two specifically stuck out. He seemed just out of sync for whatever reason.

That's true. If he throws it a second before, it's a TD. But as it was, he threw it where he had to. If he throws it towards the middle, where Butt was drifting, it's picked. I guess it depends on his read progression. If Butt was his first option, he gets a -1. If Butt was his second read, it might explain being late. Either way, Butt has to settle in the window instead of moving towards the coverage.

DGDestroys put up all snaps videos of both offense and defense, and if you go to 50 seconds in on the offense video you will see the play from behind the endzone. Butt is open right away, and if thrown then it is a TD. But that would have had to been Rudock's first read. The problem is Butt is drifting towards the center of the field and the MLB is drifting towards Butt. If the throw was on target, its an INT. If Butt drifts further towards the outside, away from the MLB and towards open turf, its an easy TD.

This is a weird mentality. I'm not making excuses for anyone. I think Butt is more at fault than Rudock. I assure you its not because I like one more than the other. Ruddock was poor yesterday and has not looked good in any game. But that play, in my opinion, is on Butt. Although as someone mentioned, I think Rudock gets some blame for not throwing it earlier.

Until we have played a few more games? Jake Rudock has not been on campus that long.  Yes he could be better, so could receiver routs.  He's brand new to us and we are brand new to him. I think we are asking a lot of him.  He's not going to be Connor Cook who has played in the same system for a number of years.   Michigan is in a huge transition on QBs. Probably one of the biggest transitions I have seen with a Michigan team.  And I have been following since the 70s.   Jim Harbaugh knows what he is doing and it will take him a couple of years to get the guy who knows his system, but it will happen.

And after seeing how the top 25 today have done, well, anyone is beatable. And that should be a plus for us.

Guys (esp. Darboh) are getting open down field and in the flat with regularity and he's either a) not throwing it to them at all or b) not throwing catchable passes. Jake Butt was literally standing in the endzone with no one within 10 yards and he threw it behind him... that's on Rudock and no one else. That said, I don't think we have an eligible QB that would be better which is frustrating.

but maybe giving someone who will be here next year some more experience (Morris, Speight, Malzone, Gentry) might help us in the future.  With Rudock, I was expecting the guy who threw 5 INTs all year at Iowa, not a guy who throws 5 INTs in the first 3 games and couldn't connect on even mid-range throws today.
