Will We Keep Anything From Hoke Era? Legacy Jerseys? Calling Them "Ohio"?
In addition to the flat-out stupid stuff - not wearing a headset, clapping like a seal, losing to every team as soon as they join the B1G - the Brady Hoke Era brought us the following innovations:
- Legacy Jerseys (although this was more of a Brandon idea)
- Numbering the teams (Team 135, etc.)
- Calling them "Ohio."
When he's gone, will any of these endure? I see the team-numbering one sticking around, "Ohio" will go away immediately, and legacy jerseys will be gone as soon as the current jersey-holders graduate. What say you?

I think we should keep ledgend patches but do not award them in a special way. If a freshmen wants 98 or 21 they should be able to have them.

seriously, Bo would be so pissed at all of you, he'd slap the crap out of you. He'd be embarrased of your gimmicks, and he'd hate what his school has turned into.
It's not even honorable to be a "rival" of yours. It just sucks. WTF has happened to you guys. l Even debating this BS.
Jesus.

Nothing is changing. The reason being that Brady Hoke is going to beat OSU and retain his job.

Brandon things that need to go:
1. Stadium music piped in through speakers. I'm tired of not hearing the band play in the background between plays or series that help to differentiate college football from the NFL.
2. Legends jerseys - quaint idea for a minute, but what happened to choosing your own number and building your own legend?
3. Commercialization of the team numbers. If Carr used them for the seniors as a special thing to build a bond and for underclassman to look forward to, then that's fine. I didn't even know it was a thing really until it's more recent use.
Hoke things that need to go:
1. Piss poor clock management
2. Calling Ohio State "Ohio." I've called them that plenty of times, but when you've beaten them once in their 1 down year out of too many years to recall then you don't get to invent special names to call the opposition until you start winning your fair share of the games.
3. Recruiting only "nice" kids. That's great, we need nice kids. However, where are the kids who do the right thing on/off the field and have a mean streak too??? Michigan teams used to be physical and nasty. The meme for all of Hoke's teams are that they are soft.
4. Not having a plan B for when the opposing teams adjust to plan A. The lack of adjustments have been utterly pathetic.

keeping the patches is alright. Need the numbers in any case.
I always had mixed feelings about the unofficial #1 bequeathing. The legend jerseys are an awful idea.
Ohio State is just that, the rest of it is horseshit. Numbered teams as well.
We could create a trophy for the best-coached game of the season, the Bronzed Headset...

The university keeps repeating its mistakes.
Need a new AD? Find a retread businessman with success in an unrelated field, and have said businessman learn how to be an AD on the job (which like any career takes years even if you're a fast study), instead of hiring someone with experience.
Does anyone here think that running an office furniture company is the same thing as running a public institution's athletic department? Raise your hand if you think the answer is "yes."
Finally, have said inexperienced businessman conduct and manage a search for a multimillion dollar football coach.
If you find a good one, it'll be down to luck, not skill. I have no hope that this project will be undertaken on any other basis.
November 23rd, 2014 at 12:26 AM ^
Do you think they will speed up the AD search now that Hoke is basically gone? There is no way you let Hackett go on a coaching search with zero AD experience. Unless he knows something about Harbaugh, I just can't imagine an interim AD making such an important hire.

Who is "you" as in "There's no way you let Hackett....."? Who's in charge of Hackett besides Schlissel? If it's just him, and there's no other oversight, we may be in for a bumpy ride.

My biggest concern with the ceo athletic director is that they lack the hubris that would help them succeed as an AD. In other words, they resort to the things that garnered success in the business world despite the fact that corporations and athletic departments are two separate entities.
I just hope that he gets the best coach and athletic director for this university, and quietly steps back into retirement.

No, purge anything and everything from this era of god awful football. Can we erase it from the record books? Maybe trade in these past 4 years of Michigan football and get the Fab 5 records reinstated?

It was always dumb to call Ohio State "Ohio" because Hoke did it. At this point of a 1-12 record against them it just looks childish. What would add to the rivalry is winning games against them, thats it. Not name calling, wins. I seriously wonder as to why Ohio State considers Michigan a rival since we as a program have dismissed far more competitive series.

I tried buying into the legacy jersey thing, but the more you look at it the more it was just a money grab. I would like to see it go. They should just retire 21 and 2 with them. It may be too late to change it back like some of the other comments said, but I'm not a fan.
I also never really thought much of the whole "Ohio" instead of Ohio State. It always felt weird calling them "Ohio", unless I was talking to another diehard UofM fan.

Legends jerseys are foolish on so many levels. It rewards players who have not accomplished shit in their careers (most of them). That type of rewarding is anti-team and drives a wedge of jealousy between teammembers. Players get rewarded for doing squat, and the other guys think "thats BS he has not done squat, not only does he start above me but he gets honored with a jersey too...wtf".
Stupid, dumb move by Brandon who shoved it down his gutless, lackey Hoke's throat, who of course accepted the idea, even though he probably (hopefully) knew that it was not a good team building move at all. Complete BS and something that never would have happened in 10000 years if Bo were alive.

At the beginning of every meeting - instead of asking historical Big 10 championships, ask players to enunciate how many Big 10 titles they have won THEMSELVES. Answer - 0. Start playing with a fire to earn one, not regurgitating past accomplishments. JMO.

you, know there's a saying that I've been trying to wrap my head around. I don't think it's the greatest thing for young kids (they should here it, IMO they need encouragement and positive feed back, but then again, why wouldn't young adults?)
The most dangerous 2 works in teh English language are, "Good Job."
I get the sense that the players have hear Good Job a whole hell of a lot under Hoke.

Out: Redo the Legends jerseys. I like WD's idea for one game or something. I don't understand a sophomore or junior getting a number just because they start at the same position as somebody with a retired number.
The team attitude seemed to lack respect for a lot of opponents and fans in a way that put the confidence/humility balance out of whack. I can't quite describe it but it is a feeling I get that the team seemed focused on inpsirational soundbytes and flippant remarks instead of winning games.
Also, bring back noon games though I imagine this was a Brandon thing. People aren't showing up at 3:30 either.
Keep: Night games, at least one a year and preferably early in the season. It can be great for recruiting and the atmosphere is great.
Graduating seniors and having high retention rates.
Whatever brings in the recruits.
Team xxx. I like it and I like the commitment to tradition as long as it is consistent (band not drowned out by the speakers, funky uniforms) and not distracting (like some 4 hour presentation to the team on the history of Michigan vs Iowa).
