OT: Same Old Lions, Same Old Lager
Well, that was fun while it lasted.
Speaking of getting canned, I predict Black Friday to be doomsday for our Dynamic Duo.

What dynamic duo? Patricia and Quinn?

Was this satire? This read like satire to me but I suspect it's all too real.
November 23rd, 2020 at 4:38 PM ^
It was real, for one shining moment:
"Enter Eastern Market Brewing Co., which has been debuting new and tasty beers left and right from its Detroit location and its Ferndale Project taproom this year. Going into the Lions-Panthers game Sunday, it announced a new beer release: "Same Old Lager," a crisp, 4.5% alcohol-by-volume lager that has one simple request: "Don't set your expectations too high."
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
If Eastern Market had used my logo they'd have been in good shape.

Vladdy does some manscaping....or nuclear waste causes hair loss.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:06 PM ^
Seems very suspect
November 23rd, 2020 at 4:34 PM ^
Nah, they’ll pull out some unimpressive win over the Texans that will give Sheila enough reason in her mind to keep dumb and dumber around for another season.
November 23rd, 2020 at 4:36 PM ^
I hope the OP is right about Black Friday being the day for Quinntricia being given their walking papers. I am hoping for a blowout on Turkey Day to confirm this fate.
Next on my checklist is for the QB and his opinionated wife to have a different zip code come Fall of 2021. Great QB's rise the talent around them and Stafford is mediocre at best.
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:23 PM ^
Kelly Stafford is a moron, but I don’t think the rips on Matt Stafford are fair. This isn’t basketball where one guy can make the team better or raise the level of the offensive line or play calling or the defense. He leaves a lot to be desired. But it’s also the Lions. Who here has succeeded?
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:33 PM ^
Meh, I wouldn't even say that Kelly is a moron. She has some bad opinions maybe. Don't we all though? I wouldn't call someone a moron without really knowing them I guess. Maybe I'm doing this whole keyboard warrior thing wrong though.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:14 PM ^
Same difference. You’re the wife of a professional athlete with over 100M+ in career earnings. You’re not in any way living in dictatorship because you can’t get your nails done as often as you’d like in the middle of a pandemic that’s raging out of control.
November 23rd, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Yeah, but she wasn’t complaining about not being able to get her hair done was she? She was speaking up in defense if people who are going to lose their livelihood because of questionable decisions by the governor (yeah, it was the health dept. Right!)
Whitmer hasn’t made many rational decisions. And they sure aren’t “following the science” when leaving gyms and salons open and closing restaurants.
November 24th, 2020 at 10:25 AM ^
I see, but you are the athlete making over $100M playing a little boys game, and living more ostentatiously than 99.9% of your fellow Americans, but you are obviously being put down by a systemically racist country. Thank you for making it clear to me
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:47 PM ^
I understand what you are saying about Stafford but he has done absolutely nothing here in 12 years. No division titles (there are only 4 teams in the division) and no playoff wins. Yes, he may have some wonderful comebacks but those are the result of him being garbage in the 1st half. He had the best weapon in Megatron that a lot of the top QB's never had and it was squandered. I am ready for something different and the 2020 draft was that opportunity. Man does Herbert look like the stud! Instead Bobby Q tapped a 2nd buckeye for another wasted 1st round pick.
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:58 PM ^
No QB has done anything in Detroit since Tobin Rote. Blaming Stafford for organizational incompetence is astoundingly stupid yet far too many people do that.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:35 PM ^
Rote had a pretty amazing career—I imagine he's one of a tiny number of QBs who won an NFL title and an AFL title.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:35 PM ^
only on mgoblog can i find a tobin rote discussion----thanks, guys!
closest i got to lion sports history is that i shook hands with the great karl sweetan
November 23rd, 2020 at 9:37 PM ^
There were a few that were ok
Galloping Greg Landry-1970
Gary Danielson-1980
Eric Kramer-1991 (led at half of NFC Championship game-closest the Lions have gotten to Super Bowl)
Scott Mitchell-1995
Few and far between but there have been flashes of decent QB play
November 23rd, 2020 at 9:53 PM ^
That Kramer game was 17-10 Washington at half.
Man that 1995 team with the #1 offense I believe. Sanders, Moore, Perriman, Morton in the slot
And just get crushed in Philly. At 16 that was one of my first real lessons on the lions.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:25 PM ^
Football is the ultimate team game. Him and megatron put up some great numbers. I’m not sure what he can do to fix the the o-line or defense. I agree it’s probably time to move on, but Stafford isn’t the problem. Once he’s gone, not everything is going to be magically fixed.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:01 PM ^
stafford is at least a top 10ish QB. he's not the problem. a team can win with that; several have won super bowls with worse.
i live in chicago (not a bears fan), and they haven't had a good QB in over 30 years. most teams ebb and flow on offense and defense, but the chicago offense has basically sucked during that entire timespan.
November 24th, 2020 at 11:39 AM ^
Jay Cutler is the best QB in Bears history, and it's not even remotely close. Jay Cutler.
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:30 PM ^
I can't agree more, Fatty Matty Patty and dumb Bob can fuck off, I was begging to anyone who would listen on POD for them not to take Okudah, I knew he was way overrated and clutched and grabbed constantly and got away with it way too much cause like all of us on here, we watched him closely., he fucking sucks, guys picked with the 3rd pick should shine right away, so pissed off about that.
Also agree on Stafford man he has happy feet and throws awful INT's.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:05 PM ^
agree about okudah. i said at the time hochenson was a bad pick. he may turn out to be a decent player, but no way take a TE with a top 10 pick in today's game of football.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:20 PM ^
oh, i don't know. would travis kelce be a good top-10 pick? woudl gronk have been? tony gonzalez? an elite tight end is no different than an elite wideout. hockenson may still become that.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:51 PM ^
A TE is a niche player and not worth a top 10 pick. Especially for a team like the Lions, who need good pieces all over the field...
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:43 PM ^
Stafford is impossible for me to figure out. I could defend him by pointing out that he's probably the best QB the Lions have ever had. Or that he's clearly been coached by a parade of idiots and surrounded with marginal OL and RB talent his entire career.
On the other hand, he has the smell of a Rivers or Cutler.....guys with a ton of talent that never seem to elevate the talent around them or play consistently enough to sustain success.
The biggest issue is that finding someone better is really hard. Half of the league can't figure it out. Daniel Jones? Sam Darnold? Mitch Trubiski? Josh Rosen? Carson Wentz? Baker Mayfield?
What QB not named Trevor Lawrence would you get?
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
I guess I would have started over with Tua or Herbert........12 years is too long in 1 place without success. Need to create a new story even if that story needs to be rewritten 3 or 4 years later because the chance for improvement wasn't successful.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:02 PM ^
Lions needed/need defense. Taking Okudah isn’t the issue. I suspect a full off season and better coaching will see an improvement on play,
Slay wasn’t good in his first season. Most rookie CBs are not.
Lions front 7 is beyond atrocious. Linebackers in particular are terrible.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:03 PM ^
No other team would've taken Okudah at 3rd overall. He is not the Charles Woodson-type playmaker to warrant being taken that high.
November 23rd, 2020 at 8:07 PM ^
agree. i was hoping for the best DL available, whether DE or DT; or trade down.
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
That’s an insult to Rivers. Rivers is a much better QB. Rivers has won playoff games and beat a Payton lead colts team, but had to deal with Brady and the Pats to get to the Super Bowl.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:00 PM ^
Because he had much better talent around him particularly defensively.
November 24th, 2020 at 8:29 AM ^
I agree that Stafford can be difficult to peg. He's never had a really good OL, which probably contributes to the high risk/reward throws he attempts. Plus, he seems to fumble a lot.
I like the comparison to Rivers. However, this year, Rivers has played a lot better, probably because he now has a good OL, a very good running game, and a top defense. If the AFC wasn't loaded, I think they'd have a serious shot.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:00 PM ^
Stafford is arguably the best QB the lions have ever had and played with terrible teams and horrendous coaching. I find it hard to blame him for anything. Consider how little the Lions accomplished during Barry's career despite him being one of the best players in NFL history. I acknowledge that running backs have less impact relative to QBs nowadays but even he couldn't get it done. With that being said, he's getting older and it might be time to move on. Sadly they won't have a shot at Lawrence the way the Jets are playing.
November 23rd, 2020 at 4:45 PM ^
We might want to look inward before dishing out insults. If UM experiences losses to a winless PSU, a virus-riddled Maryland team or another beatdown at the Horseshoe, we'll also see a fair share of heads rolling after the season. Also the Lions may be the easiest target in professional sports and certainly the NFL.
November 23rd, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
Um, a very vast portion of the people on this board are Lions fans...(I'm not, but being a Bears fan isn't all that much better atm).
We're throwing stones at our own glass house, if you know what I mean, and there will be plenty more of that (as if there hasn't been already) on the UM Football side of things. Trust me.
November 23rd, 2020 at 4:51 PM ^
Can someone please feel sorry for me, a packer fan who experienced an OT loss yesterday?
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:21 PM ^
Especially considering how the Colts really tried to give GB the win with the 400 holding penalties they committed in the last 3 minutes.
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
That was nuts. Also posed a game theory question about taking 1st and 30 vs 2nd and 20 on the edge of field goal range with less than ten seconds before the 2 minute warning with three timeouts.
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:25 PM ^
Are they just going to give up, or just change the artwork?
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:32 PM ^
I was surprised not to read some sort of rant about the Lions on here yesterday, but this is a nice substitute.
November 23rd, 2020 at 5:40 PM ^
Why not Harbaugh to the Lions? I don't see that discussed much (although I don't pay terribly close attention). He could keep living in Ann arbor, March on the diag, live next to his dad, and UM could move on
Seems good to me
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:39 PM ^
Not sure if you're joking or not, so I'll bite. I would actually be just fine with that. He would certainly be an upgrade over Patricia, and it could lead to an amicable split with his alma mater. The last thing we need is an ugly divorce with our once beloved coach. That's a bad look all the way around.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:58 PM ^
He would be a decent NFL coach and a huge improvement over Patricia. 4 years would be the right amount of time to improve the culture before he wore the team out.
November 23rd, 2020 at 6:51 PM ^
How do we know that was Barry Sanders? Could have been Billy Sims
