True story from a friend. He’s a cop. He has a couple that he is friends with and one of their Dad’s died from something completely unrelated to Covid.  The hospital pushed for them to put Covid as the cause of death because “the hospital was so full due to Covid that he couldn’t get in to see someone right away.”  They pushed back and refused.

But regardless of what side of the mask debate, the political spectrum, etc we fall on, I think examples like this prove out the scuttlebutt that the #s are being inflated.

This was in Michigan.

I love how people that claim the numbers are overinflated conveniently ignore the fact that deaths attributed to pneumonia, etc are way up across many states. 3-6 times more than normal through the first 8 months of the year. Do you really believe those are all deaths due to pneumonia unrelated to Covid? The numbers if anything are understated.

I'd like to see an updated video from that doctor, with maybe a little less drama on the way he presents his ideas.  The first few minutes of it was interesting and pretty accurate.  The rest of it, outdated.

I'm guessing, from the data he mentioned on Covid numbers, that it was recorded back in late March, maybe early April.

Yeah, the mask mafia is always ready to put you in your place on this board.  It'll be interesting to see how they react when they lose their jobs during the next lockdown and if they think it was worth it then.

Also kinda curious how the demographics play into it.  Older people have much more to fear of this virus than the younger folk.

I've spent the last 1.5 weeks in Mexico.

It's almost 100 degrees and 90% humidity.

You have to wear a mask everywhere in public - outdoors, indoors, driving your private car. Only exception is exercising, then you carry a mask to put on when you stop.

It's just not a big deal. Everyone is doing it. No one is whining about freedom, medical exemptions, etc.

Yup, driving to work I see daycares/elementary school kids happily wearing masks. A literal 3 year old is walking around wearing a mask, some of look like "surgical masks" or mini-KF94 (i.e., these are not some super loose bandanna).

The stupidity of a mask "debate" is that we are stuck talking about this... rather than about the type of mask (KF94 should be universally available), $ and tech to retrofit shared spaces for airflow turnover/ventilation or things like UV sterilization at the ceilings etc.(e.g., classrooms, nursing homes)...

My guess is the reaction to losing their job would be similar to my reaction losing football: you fucking idiots should have worn a mask from the start cause it’s common fucking sense, and then this shit would be over with like it is in half the world and I wouldn’t have lost my job.

something like that. No reason a virus that lasts a matter of weeks should still be ravaging a modern country months later. It’s pretty simple really, a coherent plan could have snuffed this thing out.

LOL, a single case out of China isn't really proof.

In other words it doesn't work. How many people do you really think are going to take a rushed not very effective vaccine multiple times a year? If this is the vaccine we're supposed to lock ourselves at home waiting for...

Nope.

That, essentially, was my warning to "Tate".

What saved him from an immediate banning is that I chose to give him the benefit of the doubt.

If he then continues to post such misinformation, then clearly he's made his choice and then I follow up with the banhammer.

Ok we get this person is fine with deaths, doesn’t care that we lead the world in deaths cause hey it’s maybe 1%.  But he should be thinking of the economic impact of hospitalizations and even mild symptoms can have long term consequences and can dehabilitate the physical condition (thus might ruin athletic careers): https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-08-24/covid-s-lingering-malaise-adds-to-35-trillion-economic-cost

If the SEC really wanted football so badly, they should have gone with no kids on campus and dedicated/isolated housing for the teams.

The idea of safely playing football is much less absurd than safely having kids on campus, which is quickly proving to be true. And now they've made it just that much harder to play football as a result.

To your point, if Trump were a Democrat, I have no doubt that the responses would have been reversed entirely. We'd all like to believe that "our guy" wouldn't be so dumb, but history has shown that "dumb" and "acceptable" are almost purely a function of tribal instinct.

I fucking hate politics.

I guess they are going to go with the infect the whole campus quickly so everyone will be immune strategy? That is a crazy rate though. For perspective Colorado had 141 new cases today in a state of 5.7 million people. The university of Alabama has more than that  as a daily rate among a population of 38,000.

Assuming some percentage has already had it and some percentage is naturally immune they could achieve heard immunity there by the end of October.

We probably should get some scientists down there to study this as it could provide some good data around several unknowns about this virus

Some people just have a different risk tolerance.  Half of this board sees 500 cases and thinks the world is going to end.  They probably see 500 cases and shrug their shoulders.
