D-Line CC: Mike Trgovac?

I’m hearing a lot of chatter about Michigan alum and current Raiders D-Line coach Mike Trgovac. Nothing confirmed, just a face to keep your eye on.

i don't think i ever saw that movie, at least in total, only bits a pieces.  just watched that clip though.   clarence, you are way too cool of a guy to be that guy in the movie.  maybe get a better outlaw, maybe butch cassidy or the sundance kid.

I think you're missing the bigger picture here: Robocop is set in Detroit (though it was filmed in...um...Houston); I'm a Michigan grad, and Ann Arbor is a suburb of Detroit; this is a Michigan sports site. I'm never, ever changing this name. Also: you really should watch Robocop. It's iconic. We're living in the future it predicted. It's funny as hell, by design. The acting performances are incredible, and none more so than Kurtwood Smith as Boddicker. It's one of the greatest films ever made and easily makes my top 5 sci fi list.

This would be a pretty good hire I believe. The year he was fired from the Packers, they were 4th in sacks and 5th in rushing TDs allowed.

Yes, it is a picked stat from Twitter but promising I guess :/.

People bring up alums the most because that’s who we know the most about and who we have tracked since their playing careers finished. It’s natural. There are usually better candidates, but it’s not like most posters here are attending that coach’s conference and have a scouting network of coaches

No no no no no. We don’t need a recycled ex-NFL guy who hasn’t recruited in 20 years. I don’t care if he is an alum, there is a reason very rarely do pro coaches work out in college. Yes I understand that would include Harbaugh but I don’t think it’s wrong to think his homecoming has gone quite as well as people hoped.

They aren't looking at Trgovac to be the head coach.

Dude said he's just retread that hasn't won anything and got proven wrong.

Your post makes zero sense from a comparison standpoint because you're only shitting on Hoke because of his tenure here as head coach.

I hope this is a joke.  Who the fuck is this guy going to convince to go blue?  You beat OSU, ND and make CFP with better players.  You recruit those players with young, innovative position coaches.  Not NFL retreads that look like Jon Taffer.

I'm not calling him washed up, but I think wondering whether he can recruit is a legit question, and an important one. Simply being a DL coach in the NFL doesn't mean he's a dynamite recruiter—those are two different skill sets.

I realize that not every assistant has to be a force on the recruiting trail, but from everything I've heard and read Mattison was generally pretty effective in that role, and replacing him with somebody who isn't puts additional pressure on other assistants to pick up the slack, so to speak.

As a coach, yes. But if he's not gonna hit the recruiting trail with any impact then it's not as great in my mind.

We absolutely need guys who can coach the hell out of our players, but we also need guys who can consistently bring in great talent. Dude has been out of college coaching for over 20 years, not saying he wouldn't be a decent recruiter but it doesn't seem likely.

If this hire happens, I think its Harbaugh admitting UM will never recruit at the level of Bama, Clemson, OSU, etc. - so he feels he needs coaches who can scheme, teach, know technical aspects, etc. more than recruiting so he can try to level the playing field that way.

As we saw with Watson trying to cover OSU's crazy athletic WRs - that does not work. So I really hope this is just smoke and not who we're going after. We need a younger DL coach who is a lights out recruiter.

I didn't say a coach who could only recruit - my post says Harbaugh is putting more emphasis on coaching than recruiting. This is in direct contradiction to what Saban, Meyer, and Swinney - ya know the best coaches in the last 20 years - are doing.

Obviously coaches who can coach are important, but I'd rather have a position coach who can recruit his ass off and is only a sufficient coach than a position coach who can really coach but recruits a bunch of guys who have very definitive ceilings (thereby making his coaching prowess less of a factor).
