|01/21/2019 - 2:08pm||I should have been clearer-…||
I should have been clearer--there really wasn't irrefutable evidence to overturn that call, IN MY OPINION. The refs made the call on the field and although it did not appear to touch Edelman, once again, the replay has to be solid enough to overturn it. In that instance, I didn't see enough, as the ball rolled through his hands, to overturn it.
And yes, correct. I forgot the interception on the next play anyway! Great point.
|01/21/2019 - 1:08pm||Michigan is the ultimate …||
Michigan is the ultimate "buy stock for the future" investment. Bought (Company X) and 50 bucks forty years ago; today it's worth 75 bucks. Increase in value only because it increases in value--the things that make Michigan Michigan are decidedly NOT wonder years (and NC's) or even consistently challenging for the championships--just being a steady 9.3 up and 3.3 down for 40 years. 110,000 butts in the seats, on television, selling millions in merchandise, and everyone knows about the fight song and the Helmet.
Other than that? Nothing. But a good, steady value, fun to watch most of the time, just not gonna get rich off them. Even had a market crash in there, now back up to historic levels of steady slightly better than mediocre.
Ohio State--not going anywhere. They'll be a high value forever because, as we saw even with Cooper, they still challenge for the Big Games even if they lose to a 7-4 Michigan team. They keep on keeping on, and until they crash, you cannot assume they will.
Wisconsin--a recent player on the market, but I see them going the same direction for years to come. They know who they are, and they do what they do, and they are comfortable with it. Great buy--see Michigan--only getting better returns because they never panic and they are steadier, now. They DO have great years in there--years they are happy as hell to go 13-1 and win a NYD bowl, and they do that fairly often! BUY, especially now as their stock, in this "What have you done for me in the last 5 minutes" world, is slightly down.
Penn State: Stay away. Too volatile. Shooting up, jumping off the ledge--all in one day. All the potential in the world, but the HC's success really depends on a star player or three AND good coordinators--not always going to pan out year in and year out. The Brazil of the college football stock market.
Nothworstern: A sleeper, steady stock that should be in everyone's portfolio. It's not just Fitzgerald--by my recollection they've had three good coaches in a row: Barnett, Walker, and now Fitzgerald. I think of Barnett and Walker as the Founding Fathers of what is going on now. Fitzgerald is 87-65 since 2006 who would have thunk that? Good buy, and again, have them in your portfolio as long as Fitz is there.
Michigan State: The MOST interesting stock option of all, and harder to predict than anyone except maybe Iowa. Hell, put Iowa in this category. As long as they have the coaches they do, and you just simply expect modest returns (8-4)--keep them in your portfolio. When these two coaches hang it up, package them and SELL SELL SELL.
Nebraska: BUY NOW. That's all I can say. Frost has a SYSTEM and he will recruit to it, and Nebraska will give him what he wants. If his coaches flail, they will be gone. He already has probably the best QB in the B1G for the next two years, and they showed tremendous improvement. They did get a little unlucky in a coupl losses--those losses won't happen again, so BUY BUY BUY!!
The rest? Penny stocks, who cares
|01/21/2019 - 12:43pm||I cannot think of anything…||
I cannot think of anything that I would rather NOT be doing than watching a replay of a game, especially a loss.
Wow--to think someone would ever have that much time on their hands, unless they make money to do it.
|01/21/2019 - 10:33am||Tom Brady--guts galore.
Tom Brady--guts galore.
Two inches saved the Pats--I do NOT know how Edelman didn't touch that ball, and how the replay officials reversed it, although it did appear to miss his thumb and definitely did not touch his arm.
That play, and the inexplicable pass by Seattle from the goal line a couple years ago reveal how much sports is about the very smallest of details as much as it is the incredible athletic ability of the athletes.
And the Rams--will they win the Super Bowl and have everybody talk about a very obvious no call on a very obvious penalty?
Poor Kansas City, though, and Mahomes is GREAT> What a bright future ahead of him.

|01/17/2019 - 10:30am||Our grades have to be given…||
Our grades have to be given the caveat that w2e are message board guys who have NO IDEA of what we're talking about, AND that fortunately, those who have these kinds of jobs don't think or act like message board guys.
Therefore there some things to discuss:
The football schedule. OP says Warde hasn't gotten them "flip flopped"--as if Warde can storm into Jim Delaney's office, saying, "This is Michigan fergooddsakezz give me my wants or we'll go join the SEC! SCREW OFF!"
Nope. It happens to all, the scheduling is effed up, DEAL. Buy your 100 dollar Michigan jacket, get another GO BLUE! tattoo on your neck, and move along.
Rhonda Faehn: Since we know nothing about the process, we can't know what to say about it. Should not have done it--I agree. But still, not something to get worked up over. The woman's life needn't be over for whatever message board guy's judgments entail. Get a maize and blue tattoo on your shaved head, move along.
Staved off the Pistons: MMM Okay. IF you believe that one was in any way possible--Bridge. New York. Yours. Cheap
Notre Dame: "Hello! This is the Real World speaking to Michigan Message Board Guy. EVERYONE wants Notre Dame on the schedule. It has always been this way, and always will be. You're jealous of Notre Dame, and want everyone to want Michigan the way everyone wants Notre Dame. Not gonna happen, and Michigan will play them. A lot more."
Referees Every message board guy in the country blames the referees for everything from a bad call in a game to the fact their wives aren't banging them anymore. Sorry, not on Warde, a coach, or a university. Referees are universally good or bad depending on the outcome of that particular game. yes, in 2016--very, very bad. But Warde can do nothing about it.
Television Now, see, I could get on here and talk about televising more games, but I don't think it's that easy, and I'm not sure anybody other than channel 98.65b in Copper Harbor (where there is absolutely nothing to do even when there is something to do) would want to televise college hockey. This could be blamed on Delaney and the creation of the B10 conference, which sucks.
Overall Grade: Good enough for Michigan good enough for me. I mean, really, what is there to grouse about???

No one on the basketball team is ready for the NBA
But, like many before them who were also not ready (Hardaway, Robinson, Burke, Harris, Stauskas, Levert, McGary, Wagner, DJ,) Three will go: Matthews, Iggy, Poole.
They will flail about helplessly, like the others, for several years, and get many threads here on the odd night they manage to actually score baskets in the right hoop for as many as 10 points, and everyone will shout about how Michigan gets players ready for the Big Time.
|01/15/2019 - 8:44am||Hypothetical:
My fourth grade team vs my sixth grade team. (Both teams won the Briarwood Elementary Intramural Thumb Wrestling Championship)
Sixth Grade: We were ELITE because of one player: Fencer Tingbot. He was 5'2 the guts and glue of the Brown and Orange.
The boy was the best thumb wrestler of all time. The one weakness of the team was Larry Goobdarch, who had a midseason collapse after he became the first "transitioning" student in Briarwood history. We tried to support him, but the emotional toil was too much and he really floundered down the stretch, losing his last four battles.
More on that team and the 4th grade team in the next hypothetical thread.

You have no idea why more people aren't taking this seriously?
Well, here's a few guesses:
Daily threads about this.
We're FANS--we have NOTHING to do with the process.
If we did, it would be a disaster.
We really know NOTHING about Harbaugh, who or what kind of assistant he likes, with whom he will or will not be able to tolerate, or how much money is available.
Who would want to come to Michigan, what, if any, are the recruiting restraints (GPA, High and Mighty Michigan Standards, etc).
Who would want to come here if they can NEVER EVER cheat or pay players.
Really? Take this more seriously? Why? After two games the guy will be a hero, then when Ohio State scores 1200 points, he will be a goat.

Geez, even if Michigan had "elite" DL and QB play--they SYILL have more weapons--and who is to say our DL wasn't elite? Maybe their OL, which seems to be full of veterans and high recruits, made our previously elite DL look ordinary???
They have: Elite QB play--probably one of the top 2 QB's in the country. They coach to his strengths. They have better running backs. WAY better OL.
Except for Purdue, OSU, remember, was outscoring even a team that put up 50 on them.
It is OK to say we might have done better, but there was a whole lot more to the game than their QB and our DL play.

Players commit when they have a relationship with the coach or recruiter ALL THE TIME. I think it's fairly rare to get a commitment from someone with no affiliation with a school UNLESS it's because of the coach or recruiter.
