Yeah I could not understand why the announcers were harping on this point all game. There's a max of 5 games left, he can play in 2 more. I don't think you can expect any garbage time against osu or in the post season. If for some reason you need him, you don't want his first pass to be on the road at OSU. He needs game reps, if he really is better than Peters then screw the redshirt and play him in every game if you have to. It's not a huge deal. Milton looks like a freshman out there. Peters is better than him right now and I have confidence that Peters can beat Indiana and Northwestern.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
Not stupid at all. He either doesn’t play at OSU or the Championship game and gets his redshirt or he plays because we need him and he has gained valuable game experience.
Notice how engaged he was on the sideline all day because he was the backup. On the headset and with his wristband. That huge experience. And, save the “he should always be engaged” stuff - only the backup gets the headset and is therefore allowed that type of mental participation.
November 10th, 2018 at 8:19 PM ^
Any idea why if he was the backup Peters came in before him?
November 11th, 2018 at 12:42 AM ^
Man you don't know football... The dude on the headset is the dude who is farther from seeing the field. The other needs to be fresh.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:32 PM ^
Maybe they don't think he's close to ready and won't be an option in those games if needed in meaningful situations and aren't passing up opportunities to get him some live reps.
November 10th, 2018 at 11:06 PM ^
What the fuck are you actually talking about?
November 10th, 2018 at 6:43 PM ^
Michael Sessa was amazing on his one play at QB! Pushing Shea hard. ?
Peters made a perfect handoff on his one play.
Milton has some time to mature and gel as a QB.
Shea is getting better and better.
November 10th, 2018 at 11:01 PM ^
Sessa is also really good at being 6'-8" tall.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:45 PM ^
The most unimpressive 42-7 win ever. I hope Brandon Peters is the true 3rd string qb because they burned a Joe Milton game if they truly intended on preserving his red shirt.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
Meh, if Shea and Dylan are both back next year then he can play in 4 games next year and redshirt. Doesn't really matter if he uses a year of eligibility this season.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:54 PM ^
Agreed. Too many dropped balls and defense easily getting gashed in the run game. Hate to say it but Ohio State gonna run all over us.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
Lol did you forget the /s? Or did you not watch OSU today? They can't run for shit.
November 10th, 2018 at 9:04 PM ^
Right. The first 9 games of Michigan stonewalling the run were a ruse. THIS game truly represented the true nature of our defense.
November 11th, 2018 at 6:52 PM ^
Huh???
November 10th, 2018 at 6:59 PM ^
This fan base!?! Amazing to see your all back to being grumps.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:29 PM ^
Maybe their outlook would improve if we had a top 5 defense, beat three ranked teams in a row, beat a rival, improve the offensive line, get a better QB, have a 1000 yard rusher, have respectable backups at most positions, and be a realistic playoff contender. If we can do all that, I bet people would be more optimistic.
November 10th, 2018 at 8:39 PM ^
You'd think so, but here we are lol
November 10th, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
Amazing isn't it? We got gashed for an 80 yard run, otherwise dominated on both sides of the ball, and people think it was somehow a let down? We didn't exactly play lights out, but, Jeebus, we won a conference road game by 35 points.
November 10th, 2018 at 9:05 PM ^
We are the worst 9-1 team to blow out the majority of our opponents in the history of football and that is UNACCEPTABLE.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:45 PM ^
The offense today was Shea Patterson plus ten guys who decided to phone it in. Especially Higdon.
November 10th, 2018 at 8:13 PM ^
We rushed for nearly 200 yards at 4.8 YPC, and the OL only gave up one sack (the intentional Milton one). I guess Shea threw all passes to himself too.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:45 PM ^
I thought before the game that Michigan would not cover the spread. Mainly because the game plan would be conservative to the max, and it pretty much was. No keeps for Patterson. Ran things that we’ve been seeing all season. Bell, Martin, Wilson, etc. all got plenty of snaps early to keep the impact off the starters.
It was enough to win against a completely outmatched opponent. I largely expect the same thing next week.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
I always worry about Indiana, they could be a trap game.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
Not on Senior Day. They will bring it.
November 10th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
Wish they would have kept the zone read reverse in the barn. That was one block away from breaking big.
November 10th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
M almost never covers a spread like that. Especially on the road. Though I guess they were only one play from doing so.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:48 PM ^
Everyone contributed to this 42 point road production after the gauntlet.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:48 PM ^
This game was difficult to watch. Not much energy out there. I hope they don't lose that momentum they've built up over the past three games.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
Not being able to impose will on 4th down is the only gripe. Not hanging 50 is fine.
November 10th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
I was a little annoyed by that 4th down play as well. Does anyone else when it is 3rd or 4th and short say out loud “it’s bench mason time.” Asking for a friend.
November 11th, 2018 at 8:15 AM ^
And then Bench tried to get cute and lost a yard.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:51 PM ^
Lots of focus on Martin, Bell and Wilson throughout the game.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
Passing offense has 19 TD and 3 picks for the year. QB was really holding us back until this year. That's why it's the most important position on the field
November 10th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
Amazing job with the passing game but how in the world did Higdon not get a 100 yard game like he had against Michigan state which has a MUCH better run defense. Also I am confused as to the reasoning behind Milton coming in with potentially 5 more games ahead of us and only 3, now 2, games of redshirt eligibility left. Was the 5 plays worth it?
November 10th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
Rutgers sold out to stop the run. We could have had anything we wanted in the pass game given how much cushion they gave out receivers. Run calls were vanilla. All that adds up to a bunch of pitch and catch after running into stacked boxes.
I also am not sure what all the hand wringing about Milton getting into the game is about. Milton is not playing in the BIG Ten Championship game or the playoffs if we get to either unless Shea and Peters both get hurt. Also by the time the playoff comes around Dylan will probably have recovered from the collarbone injury. Thats like a 4-6 week injury and he is already had a week to recover.
Let guys get some playing time he is redshirting this year. That might have been his last chance to get into a game this season.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:37 PM ^
Stop being rational!
November 10th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
Higdon staying fresh and healthy is way more important than some meaningless stat. We rushed for nearly 200 yards at 4.8 YPC so it's not like we weren't mashing them.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
Did Tarik take any snaps?
November 10th, 2018 at 7:00 PM ^
He did, early on.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:03 PM ^
He played maybe 30-40% of the offensive snaps. Don't think he had any catches, I don't remember and targets either.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:07 PM ^
Yes I saw him in several times in the 1st half. I stopped noticing him however.
November 10th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
Vanilla. Boring. 35 point victory.
All that really matters is the latter
November 10th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
Shea came to play. Absolutely love that guy, don’t have to worry about him competing. Interior O line on the other hand... Terrible, really poor performance. Nico has great hands, he catches practically everything. I can’t believe the lack of using Black in this offense. He is only out there on run plays. Martin out there contributing was awesome to see too.
November 10th, 2018 at 7:04 PM ^
Remember, Michigan doesn't want to put too much on tape. Doesn't make much sense to be super flashy when you can still will comfortably doing vanilla stuff
November 10th, 2018 at 7:54 PM ^
Have we ever seen Michigan hold back a bunch of stuff we only see for the first time in the OSU game? No. Zero. We see the exact same stuff with varying degrees of success.
November 10th, 2018 at 8:22 PM ^
Did you see last year's game against OSU?
November 10th, 2018 at 8:33 PM ^
Dumb. We had a ton of new shit last year.
Do fans like you watch games, or just make up shit and then complain about it.
RCMB is full of losers, but mgoblog is #1 in ill-informed, pissed off, sad sacks.
November 10th, 2018 at 10:25 PM ^
Yes. Have you watched Ohio games under Harbaugh? We've consistently hustled them with unexpected looks leaving guys wide open. I'd suggest you go back and read the UFRs
November 11th, 2018 at 12:08 PM ^
What UFRs? Brian rarely does UFRs for the OSU game.
(You're right about the creative gameplans though)
November 10th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
WTF, interior OL was fine.
