The Real 'Wife Day' Thread
Mates,
It is obvious we need a 'Wife Day' thread since everybody wants to talk about it. There was one on Monday, but because everybody was uber-amped after stomping Sparty, that thread lasted about 30 seconds on the board and was in the rear view mirror. There was a misfire today in that the 'best Bye Week' strategy was interpreted as a clever lead in for that topic - but not so, that was actually a football topic so those are wasted too.
I have hopefully linked up the first and all-time greatest 'Wife Day' thread by (former?) mgoblogger Six Zero
here:https://mgoblog.com/diaries/preview-wifeday-2010
It is required annual reading.
And now the single question is this: What are you doing for Wife Day?

We drove her car into the ground and just got her a brand new Flex, so on Saturday I'm driving the old Explorer to a junk lot for $$$.
It's an emotional day, really, because we brought our first son home in that car. Took many trips up north. Moved with it. It's going to be rough. But the transmission is shot so I'm praying I can get it from where it is currently resting in Pittsfield township to its final resting place on Rawsonville without any incidents.

Fox Motors? Say hello to my old Impala, a former interceptor with the V-8 and the really nice suspension. I miss that thing sometimes, as the Jeep does not exactly turn smooth in a pinch.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:14 PM ^
You dumped a V8 off at the junkyard? The dude working that day was probably cackling with glee when you told him he could have it.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
I got a pretty good chunk of change for it, considering the condition it was in, but I am sure it has been parted out for a long time now. I am not crying. That car and I had a decent run, but I was facing a total rebuild of the engine (it had several problems - it was a project car as it was, already old when I bought it), and I had neither the time nor patience.

Wife, daughter and I are watching college football all day, just like we do every fall Saturday.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
Dang. Is your wife single?
October 25th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
I hope not. I don't think I could find another one who will put up with me watching football from 12 until 2 am on Saturdays.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
Sure you could. Probably isn't going to be a looker though.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
Neither a looker nor cheap.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
Took me 20 years to get my wife to actually watch with me and be interested in football. I could always watch, she never cared, but we'd spend the day mostly apart in separate rooms. Now she yells at the TV as much as I do.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
I'm getting married in December and expect the first part to be my life, but I hope one day I can get my future wife to watch at least a little football with me on Saturdays.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:21 PM ^
It’ll work for a few seasons, and you may even get her to attend a few games (pray for good weather).
October 25th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
I've been with my wife for almost 10 years, and she not only watches the games with me and does all the cheers from the couch with me, but she even pretends to care when I repeatedly back up the DVR and point out blocking schemes.
I like this one, I think I'll keep her.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
Be careful. RunTheFootball might try to steal her from you.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
My girlfriend is just starting to care, at least a little, about Michigan football. Her favorite players are Chase Winovich (in part because of his hair) and Ben Mason.
She even asked, "where's Mason?" on a short yardage situation during the Wiscy game when he was banged up and saw fewer snaps.
October 25th, 2018 at 6:37 PM ^
My wife pretends to care.
Which is far worse than openly not caring, honestly.
October 25th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
Yep. My wife is the same way. On Saturdays, all work stops when a Michigan game is on. Doesn't matter what it is.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
Family camping won out over writing poetry and tagging along to “Michaels” - and maybe getting to hold her purse. Then we’d watch ‘Beaches’.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
I hate that store. At least it smells nice though.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
It's literally designed to take the life out of you. My wife isn't crafty, but I like to buy frames there for sports memoribilia mostly.
Every time, one or two frames and it takes 15 minutes to check out. Usually because there's some one trying to buy things with 14 coupons, one doesn't work, they have a return or returning it to reuse a coupon or get a better price.
Get two lines Michaels, one for quick sales/ten items or less and the other for that nonsense.
Going old school with a dedicated customer service desk would work too.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
Dealing with my wife's irritation over the fact that Michigan isn't playing.
And raking leaves.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
Quite possibly, witnessing the birth of my twins.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
my avatar heartily approves of that activity.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:26 PM ^
I have identical twin girls one year-and-a-half old. Good luck.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:15 PM ^
That is some varsity level planning.
Congratulations! I have a Halloweener myself and it makes remembering the birthday so much easier.

October 25th, 2018 at 4:32 PM ^
Congrats! Here's a children/Halloween gif from me to you!
October 25th, 2018 at 4:59 PM ^
Wow, timing it down to have them on the bye week. You are my hero.
October 25th, 2018 at 8:12 PM ^
My twins are currently fighting again.
I'm going to ship them to you.
October 25th, 2018 at 9:35 PM ^
if that 'you' is the XM household, we'll take them but you might not get them back. and if they're llamas, like you are, then you definitely aren't getting them back because they aren't going to want to leave the farm.

This is really more Wife weekend. She has been wanting the kitchen cabinets painted for some time. So this is the weekend. I am getting double points for this happening during bow season here and I am forgoing hunting this weekend as well to complete the task.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
can't you bow hunt at sunrise/sunset and work the rest of the time? that's what i'll be doing besides supervising the mucking out of the hen house and the 'harvesting' of our last remaining cattle for the year.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:32 PM ^
Hopefully I can get it done by Sunday and get an afternoon hunt in.
October 25th, 2018 at 10:00 PM ^
Seriously, get your supplies Friday, get to bed early, get up early and paint. Your in your tree stand by 4.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
Mucking the henhouse on Wife Day really isn’t a euphemism? Lol.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
oh, mr funny man!
actually, the 6 youngest kids will be tasked with that chore. i don't even need to drive the tractor as the older kids are plenty competent to do those things. we probably need to hang some heat lamps in the hen house too since its getting chilly up here. 25 degrees this a.m.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
6 youngest kids ...
Are you sure you are rooting for the right school?
I'll show myself out
October 25th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
This is a BYU joke?
October 26th, 2018 at 12:00 AM ^
I thought it was an ND joke. You know -- Catholics and birth control.
But I have no fucking idea. OP, we need to know! I am so INTRIGUED by your thought process on this!
October 26th, 2018 at 5:31 AM ^
smiling here. you guys are funny. as to 'right school', i am 4th generation U of M grad, and have 2 nieces who are 5th gen grads. U of M is definitely my school. as to faith, we are neither of the two mentioned, simply blessed with a larger than average number of children. i don't think its possible for us to have any more at this point in our lives, but if it were to happen they would be welcomed.
October 26th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
Mucking barn.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
Please do yourself a favor and paint the doors when they are lying flat.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
Every day is wife day. We don't need another one
October 25th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
Cleaning the basement... and she's really excited about it
October 25th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
I am strongly considering heading over to Durham and watching my alma mater and reigning DII National Champion Ferris State Bulldogs play at Cameron Indoor. Just not sure I want to pay $60+. Although going to Cameron Indoor is a bucket list thing for me, so maybe.
I also thought about going to the Lexington BBQ Festival in Lexington, NC. It's a short drive and the weather is supposed to be decent. Problem is the wife doesn't like BBQ, so it'll be a tough sell.

Busy weekend. Taking little Hatter to the DSO for Halloween at Hogwarts. I'm not really sure what it is, but I'm assuming they play music from the movies? His first time at the DSO so hopefully it goes well.
I'm taking Mrs. Hatter to an "art" show called Damned. We go most years and it's usually a pretty good time.
Link maybe nsfw http://www.thatdamnedshow.com/
Oh, and two rounds of trick or treating too, one each on Friday and Sunday.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
Holy crap i clicked on the link and the first thought i had was of a music awards show i watched several years ago and it closed with Marilyn Manson doing "Beautiful People" for the first time.
The host of the show was Chris Rock and once the song ended he just stared into the camera for see several seconds and then started yelling "GO TO CHURCH....GO TO CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
That looks really interesting. If I lived closer I'd check it out. How adult does it get?
For my thread contribution: I was going to try to get in 36 holes, but it's supposed to rain all day here.
October 25th, 2018 at 7:52 PM ^
The art and live performances are pretty provocative and some of the guests wear pretty revealing costumes. Several were topless last year and I've seen a vulva on more than one occasion.
So it's fun for the whole family really.
