The Real 'Wife Day' Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on October 25th, 2018 at 3:08 PM

Mates,

It is obvious we need a 'Wife Day' thread since everybody wants to talk about it.  There was one on Monday, but because everybody was uber-amped after stomping Sparty, that thread lasted about 30 seconds on the board and was in the rear view mirror.   There was a misfire today in that the 'best Bye Week' strategy was interpreted as a clever lead in for that topic - but not so, that was actually a football topic so those are wasted too.

I have hopefully linked up the first and all-time greatest 'Wife Day' thread by (former?) mgoblogger Six Zero

here:https://mgoblog.com/diaries/preview-wifeday-2010

It is required annual reading.

And now the single question is this:  What are you doing for Wife Day?

We drove her car into the ground and just got her a brand new Flex, so on Saturday I'm driving the old Explorer to a junk lot for $$$.

It's an emotional day, really, because we brought our first son home in that car. Took many trips up north. Moved with it. It's going to be rough. But the transmission is shot so I'm praying I can get it from where it is currently resting in Pittsfield township to its final resting place on Rawsonville without any incidents.

I got a pretty good chunk of change for it, considering the condition it was in, but I am sure it has been parted out for a long time now. I am not crying. That car and I had a decent run, but I was facing a total rebuild of the engine (it had several problems - it was a project car as it was, already old when I bought it), and I had neither the time nor patience.

I've been with my wife for almost 10 years, and she not only watches the games with me and does all the cheers from the couch with me, but she even pretends to care when I repeatedly back up the DVR and point out blocking schemes.

I like this one, I think I'll keep her.

My girlfriend is just starting to care, at least a little, about Michigan football. Her favorite players are Chase Winovich (in part because of his hair) and Ben Mason.

She even asked, "where's Mason?" on a short yardage situation during the Wiscy game when he was banged up and saw fewer snaps.

Family camping won out over writing poetry and tagging along to “Michaels” - and maybe getting to hold her purse.   Then we’d watch ‘Beaches’.

It's literally designed to take the life out of you.  My wife isn't crafty,  but I like to buy frames there for sports memoribilia mostly.

Every time,  one or two frames and it takes 15 minutes to check out.  Usually because there's some one trying to buy things with 14 coupons, one doesn't work, they have a return or returning it to reuse a coupon or get a better price.

Get two lines Michaels, one for quick sales/ten items or less and the other for that nonsense.

Going old school with a dedicated customer service desk would work too.

if that 'you' is the XM household, we'll take them but you might not get them back.  and if they're llamas, like you are, then you definitely aren't getting them back because they aren't going to want to leave the farm.

oh, mr funny man!

actually, the 6 youngest kids will be tasked with that chore.  i don't even need to drive the tractor as the older kids are plenty competent to do those things.  we probably need to hang some heat lamps in the hen house too since its getting chilly up here.  25 degrees this a.m.

smiling here.  you guys are funny.  as to 'right school', i am 4th generation U of M grad, and have 2 nieces who are 5th gen grads.  U of M is definitely my school.   as to faith, we are neither of the two mentioned, simply blessed with a larger than average number of children.  i don't think its possible for us to have any more at this point in our lives, but if it were to happen they would be welcomed.

I am strongly considering heading over to Durham and watching my alma mater and reigning DII National Champion Ferris State Bulldogs play at Cameron Indoor. Just not sure I want to pay $60+. Although going to Cameron Indoor is a bucket list thing for me, so maybe.

I also thought about going to the Lexington BBQ Festival in Lexington, NC. It's a short drive and the weather is supposed to be decent. Problem is the wife doesn't like BBQ, so it'll be a tough sell.

Busy weekend.  Taking little Hatter to the DSO for Halloween at Hogwarts.  I'm not really sure what it is, but I'm assuming they play music from the movies?  His first time at the DSO so hopefully it goes well.

I'm taking Mrs. Hatter to an "art" show called Damned.  We go most years and it's usually a pretty good time.

Oh, and two rounds of trick or treating too, one each on Friday and Sunday.

Holy crap i clicked on the link and the first thought i had was of a music awards show i watched several years ago and it closed with Marilyn Manson doing "Beautiful People" for the first time.

The host of the show was Chris Rock and once the song ended he just stared into the camera for see several seconds and then started yelling "GO TO CHURCH....GO TO CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
