Would you rather beat OSU or make he CFP?
I was just thinking that I would rather beat OSU this year than make the Playoff (assuming only one of those things were possible and I had to pick). My thought may be different if, in my mind, it seemed realistic to beat Alabama and win the whole thing. But, I think at this point that seems like a heavy lift.
Anybody agree?

How about both!

I don't know. That seems more grassy knoll than smoking gun.

That's the biggest smile that creature has produced since the doctor slapped his hiney in the delivery room.

I vote for both as well. Not sure what the point of this thread as if we beat OSU, we are in the playoffs. There really is not a scenario where we get in after losing to OSU.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:41 PM ^
Only answer for a Michigan fan is to beat Ohio State. If that happens playoffs or at worst a Rose Bowl will follow.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:45 PM ^
Both indeed.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:43 PM ^
Agree. The original post is dumb. The options are both or neither.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
Beating OSU is our raison d'etre...the CFP is just icing on the cake
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:16 PM ^
I hate to accept this because a National Championship should always be goal number one, but I agree. I want to decimate OSU more than I want a title (this year).

I think I was still playing with GI Joe guys since the last time we legitimately (Fickel win doesn't count in my book) beat OSU. I am so effing tired of my OSU co-workers and friends. I don't care if we lose every game this year except for the OSU game. We just need a win against them. Its been SO LONG.

Isn't that essentially the same little brother mindset we make fun of MSU for? You would seriously be happy with UM going 1-11 in a year if they beat OSU? That is ridiculous
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:26 PM ^
The question wasn't would you rather lose every game but, win the Osu game. It was beat OSU or win a national title. Every other year I'd say win a national championship easily but, man it's been a long dry spell VS. Ohio state
October 22nd, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^

October 22nd, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
Yep. I'm a minority on the board I'm sure, but if we never win a NC under Harbaugh but have consistent elite seasons and beat OSU/MSU often, then I do not care if we never win a NC
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
Beating OSU is our raison d'etre
Don't phrase it that way - it makes us sound like OSU's little brother.
Winning championships is our raison d'être.
October 22nd, 2018 at 10:18 PM ^
They're basically saying I never want to be the best, just better than OSU. That's very little brother-ish. Ew.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
This one is easy, if we don't beat OSU, making the CFP will be in jeopardy so the answer is I want both, I want it all....I want to win the whole damned thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
Making the CFP is only possible if we beat OSU. We need to beat OSU!!! Then finish the Revenge Tour by exacting revenge on 'Bama for the 2012 Cowboy Classic and then beating ND in the Natty!
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
Much like the muppets video's, can't have one without the other.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
I think this is a silly hypothetical (and I'm making it sillier), but I think one plausible (though unlikely) way would not be a choice between losing to OSU and making the playoffs or beating OSU and missing the playoffs, but rather what if the OSU game were canceled due to weather or something? If we're 8-0 in the B1G and that game is never played, we're going to the B1G championship and potentially onward to the CFP without beating OSU.
Anyone know how canceled games affect B1G division winners?
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:28 PM ^
There is no way. That game would be played on Sunday or Monday in a golf bubble on closed circuit TV before they would cancel it..
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
They would take the score of the Blood Drive to determine the winner.

October 22nd, 2018 at 5:09 PM ^
Beating OSU will tend to lead directly to the playoffs. And honestly, because we are who we are, it almost has to be both. Because, as silly as it sounds, a NC after a loss to OSU will feel wrong.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:09 PM ^
I would say at this point, like the OP said, I would feel beating OSU would be a bigger deal.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:10 PM ^
Beat OSU. I honestly don’t care what happens later if they can win that game.
October 22nd, 2018 at 7:11 PM ^
If we beat OSU and were 11-1, I don't care what happens next, honestly. Make the playoff or not, win the bowl/playoff game or not, I'm good
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:10 PM ^
I don't think there's any way you can make this an either/or proposition.
One of the fundamental reasons UM-OSU is, historically, the best rivalry in American sports is because The Game matters so much in the conference and national pictures. And it matters again this year; we are not making the playoff without beating OSU.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:18 PM ^
If OSU loses to nebraska, Maryland, or MSU then?...
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
We still don't make the playoff without beating them.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
Confused. So if OSU loses to MSU lets say, and we lose to OSU, who goes to B1G championship game?
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
In your scenario, if OSU was our only loss we would. But unless a lot of weird stuff happens around the country, a two loss B1G champion Michigan would probably not go to the CFP. One of Clemson, Georgia, Alabama and ND would also have to have two losses for us to sniff the CFP.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
We go to the Big Ten championship game, but not to the playoff with two losses.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:03 PM ^
Logic fail.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:06 PM ^
Never mind.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:11 PM ^
Beat Penn State, avoid disaster in between the two big games, beat Ohio State, put Meyer out of his misery, win the Big Ten and make the playoff.
That's the season. That's going to be the season.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:12 PM ^
I hate this stupid question.
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:12 PM ^
No reason to debate, a win in Columbus this year could accomplish both
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
If we were regularly beating OSU, I'd would say make the CFP, but beating is OSU is another hump we need to get over before we can considered "back"
So this year I would rather beat OSU
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
October 22nd, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
Can't make the CFP without beating OSU. Just not possible this year. Maybe in other years but not this year.
