Devin Bush was on the field WAY to much in the second half. Pointless
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
Agreed. Can’t risk getting him hurt or a targeting penalty.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
My thought there was for conditioning. Sure, the outcome wasn't in question, but the guys still need the experience of playing deeper into the game so that they don't get winded against the better teams on the schedule.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
Yeah, there were a lot of back seven starters in late. I don’t get that...
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
They did this last week too. Don't understand the personnel decisions at all. Pick your spots, get your starters off the field, and get everyone to next week uninjured and un-targeted.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^
Not just starters, but guys who rotate a lot. If Paye's injury is serious, that is very frustrating that it occurred with six minutes left in the game. If he can't go next week, who rotates in? Ruben Jones? I think he is still at WDE. Otherwise no idea.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
Good job, staff. No complaints.
Prepared team. Good focus.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
Well we outhit them, which is quite a remarkable achievement
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Good game, exactly what was needed.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:53 PM ^
I endorse taking this show on the road next week.
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
My only complaint is them keeping Hudson in the game up 50
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:14 PM ^
Agreed. That’s a mistake. Get him off the field. He was almost hurt when a Nebraska OL illegally blocked him low.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:00 PM ^
I disagree. Hudson didn’t play the first half, he needed to get his reps in the game too. Doesn’t seem to make sense to sit him for the entire game; you can’t assume he is going to target the QB.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
Um what? No one is saying he should have sat the whole game. He had played over a quarter and a half at that point. That’s plenty of reps.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
Says you. He worked his ass off for a week to sit a half on a questionable call. He wants to play, I'd bet, and that he did when he could. More than one effing quarter. They're not chess pieces, they're humans and have humanely desires...which don't include sitting 3/4 of a game. They only have so many in their career.
September 22nd, 2018 at 11:26 PM ^
he did play for more than one effing quarter
September 22nd, 2018 at 9:45 PM ^
Yeah the thought process makes logical sense on the face: he missed 2 halves and Harbaugh always says the best way to get better at football is to play football.....but i mean yeah the rest of the backups were in and Hudson plays violently it was a risk
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
Great performance- but what the hell was Hudson still doing on the field with 5 minutes to go?
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:57 PM ^
My guess? We had out the first half so they wanted to get him some reps in the 2nd. Still a dumb move by the coaches having him in with the game that out of hand in today’s “targeting world”
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
Targetting
September 22nd, 2018 at 3:58 PM ^
Personnel: Why is Hudson out there in garbage time?
Personnel: Why can't Hudson not target?
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:14 PM ^
He didn’t play first half. Also he didn’t target last week. Probably 4 or 5 hits this week as bad as his hit last week that went uncalled / unreviewed.
His ejection this this week was earned.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:22 PM ^
1. Last week was a pretty clear targeting call. Put down the homer glasses.
2. Just because he didn't play the first half doesn't mean he needs to play in garbage time.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
If last week is a targeting call, then the rule is completely fucked... He clearly led with his shoulder... all you can do is use proper technique, which he did.
it is physically impossible do avoid helmets smacking in every single case. the ball carrier can make a last second adjustment and the defender is f'd.
Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit, i cant say it enough
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
The whole second half was “garbage time”.
Mason took at least one hit worse than Hudson threw last week and it didn’t get a peep. Why? Because it was a between the tackles play and the helmet to helmet wasn’t blatantly intentional, but an incidental effect of two people coming together at speed. Exactly as Hudson’s was last week (he made an intentional effort to go shoulder to shoulder, but their heads hit).

explain now what Hudson did last week was worse than this uncalled and uncommented hit. And I take back my earlier statement - this was way more blatantly leading with the helmet than, honestly, either Hudson hit.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
Clear to some. Not all. Hisnoen goddamn coach doesn't know what to tell him to do differently. So, you should go chat with Don on the ease of clarity of the rule.
September 22nd, 2018 at 11:22 PM ^
Because he tackles people. Sonse targeting is totally random, as you increase your sample of tackles, so will you increase your amount of targetting.
I believe it follows a Poisson distribution.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
Harbaugh went ballistic on the no call with Bell’s return and he was working the officials.
Just like old times!
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
How exactly does the flag come out so far after the play?
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
Instant scoreboard replay...new rule, just implemented today.
September 23rd, 2018 at 8:21 AM ^
Scott Frost must have been livid.
I don’t understand how it was missed initially, but I also don’t understand how they could let the crowd make the call for them.
The nonsense about the illegal forward pass was the best, though. “On second thought, we just realized we don’t know the first thing about officiating, and our made-up ‘never touched the ground’ explanation didn’t hold water, and even if it did, there wasn’t an eligible receiver in the area, which is also a penalty. So, uh, safety, or whatever, I guess. Please don’t replace us with eight random dudes from the crowd who can actually pass a rules test.”

Where does Peters transfer to after the season?
September 22nd, 2018 at 11:16 PM ^
I get the negs, and the reality of football today is that this is what happens. Probably a better time than this to bring it up though yes?
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:25 PM ^
Great gameplan. Great preparation. That is all.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
Coaches did a very good job of having them motivated and focused.
September 22nd, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
I have to preface by saying great overall performance in all three phases today. But I do wonder what the point was in having Hudson and Bush in the game so late into the fourth quarter when the game was already so well in hand.
Why risk an injury when you’re up by over 40? Now we’ve lost Hudson for another first half next week for a stupid, unnecessary targeting call. Not that Hudson’s bad decision is Brown’s or Harbaugh’s fault, but having him out there just felt unnecessary to me.
What if this had happened the week before Wisconsin, MSU, PSU, or god forbid OSU?
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:11 PM ^
Maybe it's a blessing in disguise, he will most likely change dropping his helmet from here on out and probably won't happen before/during one of those games.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:05 PM ^
They outhit us which is all that really matters
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:41 PM ^
This was one of those games where the coaching staff looks around and asks if everyone got in the game.
I know Peters needs reps but man, gotta see Joe Cannon toss a few this season.
September 22nd, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
The first half was one of those you could frame and put in your living room on the wall over the sofa. Didn't have any like that last year, had a few in 16 and 15. The fact we do have these with Harbaugh is as good a reason as any to not doubt the man too much. I don't remember ever thinking we looked that good for even a half under Rich Rod or Hoke - no matter who the opponent is (and even this frosty Nebraska isn't exactly a MAC team).
September 22nd, 2018 at 6:07 PM ^
For the love of G*d, please stop calling that stupid fake jet sweep, draw up the middle for no gain. Every time they call that play, I say ok it failed miserably, they won't call it again. And sure enough ...
September 22nd, 2018 at 7:43 PM ^
Sometimes you have to run low-probability plays to get the payoff later. Maybe the coaches know something that you don't, so don't lose your shit over this.
September 22nd, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
The package of plays with jet sweep action is largely successful. The sweeps themselves get 10-11 yards often enough. The fake jet sweep block to off-tackle worked for 7 yards with Tru Wilson last week, the fake jet sweep fake dive cross to DPJ was a 35 yd TD. Perhaps the dive you mentioned was just a missed block or perhaps showing that tendency keeps things like DPJ’s cross or other things open as the D has to play a bit more honest. I would think most teams have to respect all of Michigan’s dive plays after watching the RBs and Mason do serious work with them.
September 22nd, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
If there was no jet motion and they just handed off for 2 yds up 40 would you still be mad? They weren't trying to fool anyone they were just trying to run the ball and go home
September 23rd, 2018 at 12:17 AM ^
Every time? It sets up stuff like last week when they called a fake jet, fake draw and threw to DPJ for a TD.
September 22nd, 2018 at 7:13 PM ^
On Bells TD, Mayfield whiffed badly and McCaffrey was about to get clocked.... Now we know why Runyan is still in... So chalk one up for the coaches..
September 22nd, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
1st half yardage 305 to 17. Utter domination. It was part talent differential but also coaching. Michigan was better prepared with a better gameplan in every phase. That hasn't been the case too often recently so hopefully this a trend. It looks like this team is getting better game by game instead of trying to hold on and fading at the end of the season.
September 22nd, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
Our team was better prepared, plain and simple.
So I’d like to continue to pile on John O’Neill and his crew for being the worst by far.
Let us not forget that O’Neill was the ref for the 2015 MSU game in which Joe Bolden got ejected on a targeting call in which he was chucked head first at a downed runner by a MSU O-Lineman.
He is the new TV Teddy. You know you’re gonna be pissed when his name pops up.
September 22nd, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
he was in our last MSU game we lost, and last IOWA game we lost too. That's not a coincident. It's Denaly, he's evil.
