Was just about to post this exact thread. Saw this on Twitter and the 247 forums. Doesn't look good, but I'm hoping it's bs. We know for a fact he was healthy a few days ago when he talked to the media.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
Two separate posters on 24/7 talking about it through different claimed sources and umbig11 saying cryptic stuff.
Unlikely to be false.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
What "cryptic stuff" is umbig11 saying?
Edit: He said below he doesn't know.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
Yeah 2 posters on The Michigan Insider said they saw Black on a scooter thing. Nico Collins time.
August 25th, 2018 at 10:09 PM ^
If he was on a Scooter it doesnt necesarily mean he won't be ready to play in a week if needed. For example, a scooter may be used for a quicker recovery for soft muscle/ligament pain from overuse, lots of minor ailments go away in a few weeks, but with 100% off load bearing and less movement they heal quicker.
Our bodies sometimes protest when we go all out for three weeks. Here's hoping...
August 25th, 2018 at 11:24 PM ^
If we're talking scooters the only experience I have is when I broke 3 bones in my foot and had to use a scooter for a few weeks. I hope his experience isn't the same as mine, but I would guess he'll probably be back at some point in the season even if he is hurt. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Even if he isn hurt, I'm more worried about the OL play. I think we'll be fine if OL play is ok at least.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
Seen this as well. I guess if he is not spotted on the field tomorrow then something may be up.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
Seems like every year we lose contributors during fall camp; moreso than other teams.
Does Harbaugh run a "tougher" camp than most other teams?
August 25th, 2018 at 8:23 PM ^
Nah that's just the nature of camp. I'm working for a different college team right now and they've lost a couple significant contributors to injury during fall camp, one of which might be out a significant amount of the season
August 25th, 2018 at 8:32 PM ^
Injuries often are fluky things. A guy makes a cut and his knee buckles. Black’s broken foot last year was not due to contact, IIRC.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:07 PM ^
Black got hurt while being tackled against Air Force.
August 25th, 2018 at 11:14 PM ^
Yes, but I remember one of the doctors saying that it was one of those situations where there was already weakness in the bone and that happened to be the play where it cracked. If not then, it would have been some other time in the season.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:32 PM ^
We really don't. If anything, we've been remarkably injury-light this year until now. Black would be the first starter to get hurt enough to miss time, if he is that hurt.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:36 PM ^
Moreso than other teams because we pay far less attention to other teams.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:48 PM ^
No we don’t. Ask Wisconsin.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:09 PM ^
Weren’t all our injuries in season games?
August 25th, 2018 at 9:56 PM ^
Nope, this is honestly one of the healthiest teams we’ve had coming out of camp at this point in a long time
August 25th, 2018 at 10:11 PM ^
I must remember it wrong, who in our two deep was injuried coming out camp last year? OL was healthy, WR were all heathy, QB healthy, top RBs healthy, top 2 TE healthy, all starting DL healthy, LB healthy, DB healthy, I remember a couple of incoming freshman and our No. 4 TE that were injuried at the start of the season. I would say that is pretty good to start a season.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:19 AM ^
Knock on wood! Never mind.... did it for you.
August 25th, 2018 at 10:45 PM ^
Starting to wonder
August 25th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
Word is that he is done for the year...
August 25th, 2018 at 8:26 PM ^
If the injury happened today, would they know something like that already?
August 25th, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
They probably don't. This is fog-of-war rumor stage. Barring an obvious knee destruction, people probably just speculate based upon what they see. Seeing Black on a cart would be both a pretty discouraging data point and also something that people could easily overstate without knowing the whole story.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:20 PM ^
Is that like when that “surgeon” posted on Twitter that Crawford had torn his ACL at Purdue based on game film and it turned out he had just had a bad cramp?
August 25th, 2018 at 9:43 PM ^
To be fair if that’s the same surgeon who gave detailed information on what he thought Grant Newsome’s situation was, he was exactly correct about Newsome.
Injuries and these kids are too important to speculate about though and being correct half the time is not enough to keep doing so.
August 25th, 2018 at 10:01 PM ^
Newsome was a contact injury where you could practically see his knee be destroyed in slow motion on the replay. The Crawford thing was non contact and was pretty ridiculous.
August 26th, 2018 at 1:10 AM ^
I’m the physician that described Newsome’s likely course, as posterior knee dislocation comes with a pretty stereotypical set of injuries. I was not the one commenting on Crawford-I’m not on Twitter, so that ain’t me! If rumors about Black’s injury are true, I wonder when it happened. Let the dust settle and see what is going on.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:08 AM ^
I feel good that surgeons say ain’t.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^

August 25th, 2018 at 8:19 PM ^
If true, we are really thin a WR, which is a bad thing.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:31 PM ^
Well we also have a bunch of TEs
August 25th, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
Which are also not WRs.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
Thanks. You telling me Gentry or Eubanks isn’t terrifying in the slot for defenses.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:20 PM ^
They’re good but not terrifying, just because they won’t take the top off the defense.
August 26th, 2018 at 5:26 AM ^
I’m pretty sure a 6’8” TE in the slot is terrifying for any opposing defense...
August 26th, 2018 at 7:40 AM ^
We have slots, thin on outside WRs with size and non-TE speed. DPJ and Collins are pretty much it without Black.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
If needed we have Ambry Thomas who was one of the best WRs at The Opening as a DB. DPJ, Collins, Perry, Martin is a good list... Just can't afford any more injuries. Losing Black for another year really blows though.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:00 PM ^
Unless they have been working him out at WR, Ambry isn't just going to come in and pick it up. Also, Collins and Martin have almost no game experience.
August 25th, 2018 at 11:58 PM ^
I mean, Black has almost no game experience as well. He played in 2.5 games before getting injured
August 26th, 2018 at 12:25 AM ^
He will if he needs to. And neither does Dwumfour, Ross, Ruiz.. All guys expected to contribute at a high level. Nico has been called the best wide receiver of camp and Martin was pushing Perry. You're confusing what is necessary with what is ideal. When injuries happen guys have to step up.
August 26th, 2018 at 10:11 AM ^
Harbaugh is on record as saying Perry has had the best camp.
August 26th, 2018 at 12:24 PM ^
According to one report Ambrey was taking snaps with the Offense at WR, started when Crawford transferred.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:01 PM ^
I posted here when he was still in high school that I thought he should have played offense. He's...something, with the ball in his hands.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:19 PM ^
Well that is unfortunate. If true he could just be one of those what if stories sadly. Can’t catch a break.
August 25th, 2018 at 9:53 PM ^
Poor choice of words - "can't catch a break". Receiver... broken bones...
Anyways, hoping it is not as bad as some are speculating.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:19 PM ^
Hearing the same rumors as everyone else. I don’t know yet.
August 26th, 2018 at 9:30 AM ^
I am hearing Black is the other foot and it’s eight weeks. Also hearing cryptic shit about Rashan and his shoulder. Arghhhhhhh.......
source: Former player.
August 25th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
Goddamnit. We are cursed
August 25th, 2018 at 8:38 PM ^
First things first: Best wishes to Tarik. I hope he can recover from whatever injury he may have.
Now, WTH do you mean we're "cursed?!" Some data would be helpful. Do we have a higher average number of preseason injuries than other teams? If so, what are the numbers?
