Joey Velazquez on commit watch

[ED:BiSB - I modified the tone slightly. Let's try not to be unnecessary assholes to commits on the very day they commit, eh?]

Everyone on this blog would gladly have an open discussion with you if you chose to relay positive news on here from time to time. The way you express yourself now, it just comes off as being 1) not a Michigan fan, 2) a troll, 3) a masochist.Yes, Michigan is recruiting 3 star kids. But the quality of those kids matters. Velazquez is not a bad athlete in any way and should he commit, he could be a starter down the road.

Now you point out Alabama and Georgia as where we should be. Let's be real, as you said, and understand that we are not the juggernauts that they are. Those 2 teams plus OSU have been absolutely dominant for the last 10+ years. It takes time to get there and we are much better off than before. Recruiting is a marathon.

Now if you want to make a comparison, look at Clemson. They are similar to Michigan in many ways in that they are not in a state that produces a ton of talent and have other teams in their conference that are better recruiters. But they utilize 3* recruits along with their more heralded 4* and 5* recruits. That is a program that was built up in 7+ years and only recently has gotten to where it is now. I hope Michigan can get there faster but at the end of it all, I just want Michigan to get to that position at all.

Staying on topic:

There are no five star vipers, sir.

Hudson was likewise a 3 star.

Are you saying Don Brown should scrap the viper position and body type/playstyle that the position excells at in favor for some Alabama defense?

I think what people are saying is if trying to follow Michigan recruiting is so insufferable, then fucking stop. It's that easy. I did the same thing with my Aunt Tracy and Uncle Mike's twitter after they posted non-stop about their camping trip to Ludington. Nobody cares that your camper got a flat tire but you "made the best of it" and for pete's sake stop feeding the raccoons marshmallows!

But yeah, nobody likes you...

Bluey, look at Georgia over the past 10 years. Is this what you want to be as a team? Never worse than the 12th ranked recruiting class, never played for a National Title until last year. Had three 5 loss seasons, one 4 loss season and a 7 loss season. That's 5 out of 10 years they had a season Michigan fans would consider unacceptable despite consistently winning on the recruiting trail. No thanks.

And before you point out the #3 ranked class correlating with the National Championship, we all know Kirby Smart plays the game the way Saban does, and there is not a true Michigan fan around who wants to go down that path.

YEAR/RECRUITING RANK/RECORD

2017 / #3 / 13-2

2016 / #6 / 8-5

2015 / #6 / 10-3

2014 / #8 / 10-3

2013 / #12 / 8-5

2012 / #9 / 12-2

2011 / #7 / 10-4

2010 / #11 / 6-7

2009 / #4 / 8-5

2008 / #7 / 10-3

supposedly Lance Dixon wants to leave the state - if that was his mind set, tough to blame coaches

similar to the OL kid that went to LSU

The alternative being do a better job recruiting. How many more kids outside the Top 247 have to commit before people realize we're basically 3 star University. The only difference between our class and everyone else in the Big Ten not names PSU or OSU is Chris Hinton.

Most of us realize, right now, UofM is a 3* university in football recruiting but we're gonna go ahead and root for who wants to play for this 3* university, especially when they value education.

It's you who think the recruiting should be five star level and act like a petulant jerk when it's not.

So it's you, it's ALL you and thank you because it's sooo nice to have a lightning rod to focus all the disappointment I feel to have to be part of one of the most reactionary fan bases in all of sport.

But hey, Cleveland, Philli and Washington recently got championships so maybe it's UofM's turn.

There are many sites out there with good information.

Maybe much of this will go away once the season starts and Michigan starts winning football games.

I pray that Michigan has a successful season and this ass hat Bluey goes away.

Its not that I wear rose colored glasses and can't listen to negatives, it's the fact that his argument about recruiting is exhausting.  I have followed recruiting for years.  I have watched so many 'can't miss five stars' bust.  #1 RB in the county who going to be a program changer.  Best QB to ever commit.

Again, it's what they do when they get on campus.  What is their ceiling.  Are they maxed out in high school?  I'll leave it up to the staff to figure those things out.

I'm holding judgement on all the recruiting drama until this plays out over the next few years.

Can we honestly criticize a Viper recruit Don Brown goes after or any defensive recruit until the defense falls out of the Top 10 defenses in the country?

Lots of buzz surrounding all of his other hand picked guys....Paye, Uche, Black.

Then obviously the problem is with Dixon.   Don Brown is praised universally and the Viper spot in this defense is a glamour position.

Hometown team, respected coach, position of need, glamour position....he says nah I'm good.

It's on him not Michigan

A good coach is honest about what they need from a recruit in order to succeed.

If the player isn't willing to actually study, go to class, not miss practice, hit the weights hard, and learn a new position, etc, it's not the recruiters fault for not improving, it's the guys motivation. Not saying that's what happened, but if the guy wasn't even willing to visit it's less likely the recruiters fault at all. Please stop posting.

Mods, the fact that you caved me for months for making a sophomoric but yet quite PG comment about Wagner’s mom while you continue to let this asshat post nonstop disparaging young men who have committed to our program is absurd.  Shame.

Couldn't agree more. I have no idea why they allow this to continue. The only thing I can figure is they don't have the power to cave on this new site yet. If they would simply cave maizen he would never get enough points to start a thread again since you don't get points anymore.

Have you read some of Brian's comments about recruiting? He's more depressed about it than I am. I've followed UM recruiting since the late 90's and I can safely say unless it's been a year where UM is going through a coaching transition, they have never recruited this poorly. Ever.

I've heard Brian talk specifically about offensive line recruiting...you complain about every 3 star highs school kid who even mentions Michigan.  Then you fail to comment on a discussion about a 5 star offensive linemen says Michigan is at the top of his list.  Seems like someone doesn't really want to discuss recruiting, and it's you.

Honestly, there is no real rhyme or reason to what the mods do with sending people to Bolivia and such. It's often just how they feel on a certain day. I don't know what your comment was, but you probably just caught them on a bad day.

Give it a rest.

He has not even player his senior season...high school senior season.

How about we wait and see where these kids end up before judging?

Spare me the argument that Bama, OSU etc only recruit 5*'s.  Recruiting is filled with hits and misses.

Would it matter if this kid has a monster senior season and becomes a 4*?  Does it matter that player development is a huge part of any successful program?  Sure, it is great to have top 200 kids across the board, but if you can't develop them then it does not matter what the rankings say.

Yes, it appears Michigan will miss on Dixon.  Move on.

Hate to agree but this isn't great. If this was MSU doing this everyone would be laughing. If the kid had better football offers I could get onboard. But a low ranking plus no power 5 offers tells me this is a huge reach by our staff.

Thank you BiSB. That is a good start. But instead of having to edit every one of his ridiculous troll posts, why not just cave him?
