At some point, the way these guys are trained has to be looked at. Although, I don't know what you'd find out from it. This blows...

What the fuck are they doing in their conditioning that would cause so many torn ACL's?

TE depth is terrible behind Butt. Just terrible. Big guy who can't block and parties too much, converted DE, and a freshman who is more of a WR than a TE. Fuck it all.

Yes. Probably be more 3 WR sets with a FB and a RB. No more 2 and 3 TE sets....
Seriously, Williams needs to get his act together. Recruited to be a blocking TE and he can't block for shit. Add that to the fact that he's about as fast as a really large bear, and you have one useless TE. The partying and subsequent arrest the week of the MSU game was just outrageous

The amount of improvement we saw from Butt last year shows he is a very hard worker and was probably practicing with his teammates when this happened,   We all saw the benefits from Gallon practicing in the off season with Gardner and hopefully it has rubbed off on the younger recievers and TEs.

Hope that Butt can put in the work that Ryan did(and practicing in February implied he can), because this is a month earlier than Ryan tore his ACL and he was back on the field by mid October.

At least the OC is no longer married to multiple TE sets and we won't be forced to play a 220 lb true freshman Bunting at TE even if he's not ready or move Funchess back inside.

This basically means Funchess back to TE. AJ Williams HAS to step up and improve. Khalid Hill and Ian Bunting will have every opportunity to spell Funchess. I could even see Shallman getting reps at TE in the spring.

What a shame. Hopefully Butt can do what Ryan did and come back earlier than expected. He looked great toward the end of last season. Funch back to TE, I suppose

Butt was one if the reasons why moving Funchess to WR was such a great idea. Now that he's injured...Funch may likely be a primary TE again (correct me if I'm wrong). Which means I sure hope he learns how to block. This seems like a bad injury because it could also effect our WR depth chart.

Fuck ACLs.

I know it's mostly unproven, but the WR depth could be very good this season. Replacing Gallon will be no small feat, but we're not short of plausible candidates. Funchess will probably get moved back to TE on the depth chart, but I don't expect it to have much impact on how he's used.

I wonder if we are really having an above-average number of these injuries (in relation to other teams), or if it just seems like it because they have been to important players like Countess, Ryan, and Butt.

It seems like we've had a lot, until you think about how many injuries other team have had (like Purdue and Iowa).

It does seem to be an epically bad stretch and especially seems to hit the more critical positions and depth guys.  This may just be bad luck, but between the lack of push the OL and DL were getting and this stretch of ACL tears in the past year there does seem to be something going in the Strength and Conditioning program.

This season is going to be horrific, again, unless some pass catchers STEP UP.

Not that it matters since DG will be running for his life half the time in the backfield due to WE GOT THE FUNK.

Well, may as well skip to the 2015 season then.

This is getting suspect. Last week listening to Cowherd, he said he "knows" college football analysts who go to michigan practices and they are not impressed. Specifically said, "the training and practices they have seen are not at the level you would think of a big time football program"

NFL Coach, a former NFL Nutritionist, a former NFL Equipment Manager, a former NFL LB a former NFL QB, a Coach who has coached 15 All-American or All-B1G players, and a guy who spent multiple years at IMG in addition to the rest of the staff who contribute 50 or so years of experience. We should get someone that knows the game, like Cowherd.

And he's a USC slappy. Their shit don't stink.

I like listening to him, until he talks about Michigan. Because it's never good. Even when Michigan does something good, there are always caveats involved. He talks about not being a "prisoner of the moment" all the time yet that's basically the only level of analysis he gets to with anything Michigan related.

CompleteLunacy

He was SO QUICK to point out that surely Nuss wasn't stolen from Bama, that Saban wanted Kiffin and shoved Nuss out the door. He was harshly criticizing Michigan fans. Because surely nobody would abandon the almighty Saban. The Nyss hire was "luck". He not once had anything good to say about it. This was the morning after the hire too.

Turns out there is a nonzero chance that he's dead wrong. There's a real possibility Nuss wanted to leave from personality clashes and Nick knew ahead of time. He was scapegoated, after all. And...ugh, Colin actually thinks Kiffin is an upgrade. It might be, but there's not much on his resume to point to other than the time he was co-OC with Sarkisian under Caroll. So, shove it up your ass, Colin.

Colin Cowherd is right up there with Mark May, Lou Holtz, Skip Bayliss, and Stephen A Smith as far as guys who think they are the biggest geniuses in the history of sports but they make me want to punch them every time they open their mouth and try to pretend like they know things

Do not run.   Do not cut.  Do not walk to class (ice slippage danger).  Do not use stairs.

We'll have a well-atrophied team by early August, but at least our ACLs will be intact.

Get well, Jake.

When our walk-on punter steps out of the shower in the morning, he better damned well be wearing a knee brace.   I'm even advocating for a fleet of electric sit-down scooters to transport our players to class.   Elevator use is mandatory because stairs are evil entities just waiting to rip apart an ACL.  I have reached ACL panic mode.

Butt hurt!

/ too soon?

Seriously, This sucks. For the team and for a kid who seemed to be developing into a damn good player. As far as return date goes, I am not sure having him hurry back is smart. Ryan wasn't the same player as in 2012. Depending on the prognosis, it may be smarter for Butt to take a medical RS and come back fully healthy in 2015.

In conclusion, this sucks.
