10/08/2017 - 11:37pm Not bad when there's no rain

but man that was a miserable experience yesterday.  At least the temperature was still warm.  I need a better poncho than the cheap $5 one I bought for 2014 Utah and have re-used like 4-5 times since.  My cousin thought the 2014 Utah game was worse, but I always feel like the latest miserable weather game is the worst.  Except the 1995 Purdue game.  That will forever be the worst.

09/30/2017 - 4:04pm Time for the smoking infomercial to get crazy ratings again

the TBX people are getting incredible return on investment

09/30/2017 - 3:34pm Barkley is just scary

going to be quite a test on 10/21

09/19/2017 - 3:24pm I'm probably one of the few that wonders

what the historical accuracy of that commercial is.  I assume he's speaking modern Italian, but Marco Polo died in 1324.  English was pretty different back then.  I wonder if Italian was, too.

09/18/2017 - 2:55pm Gus just needs to wait a little while for football passes

in basketball, when a guy shoots, the odds are good that it has a chance to go in and the flight time is relatively short.  In football, when the QB throws, it could be nowhere near anything, the flight time is longer, and you just sort of have to wait and see.  You can't just say OH SHIT HE'S THROWING TO THE ENDZOOOONE every time the QB drops back to pass.

I admire his excitement, though, because it did take the USC-Texas game to another level.

09/12/2017 - 3:54pm I thought for a sec that Brandon Herron

had two in the 2010 game against WMU, but one was a fumble return (not a pick six).

09/11/2017 - 6:14pm Watched the highlights

one of his TDs was a 75-yard screen pass where Chapman completely ran past the entire KU secondary along the sideline.  A lot of wide open receivers in this game, but he still had to make the throws.  No INTs.  Looked pretty sharp to me.

08/11/2017 - 12:34pm Good points

I'm definitely not a lawyer and don't really think about it much

08/11/2017 - 12:28pm Not defending the guy

But I was surprised that the NFL is allowed to operate outside the normal judicial system and form their own investigations.  I mean, it's not any diffiernt than what the University did against Brendan Gibbons, but I guess I never really thought about the legal implications at the time.

08/11/2017 - 10:23am They definitely made them difficult in those days

beating a game was a badge of honor instead of a foregone conclusion

I never got past 6-2 in Ninja Gaiden and the sword chucker guy that kept respawning.  The trick to despawn him was not well known.

08/04/2017 - 9:26am I agree

why is a basketball player the prominent figure on a football shirt

08/03/2017 - 10:46am Hard to say between kick six and Kordell

I didn't go to games in 1994, so there was an insulating distance there.  Being there for kick six and having to listen to braindead Sparty fans for another year was just infuriating.

The Horror's pretty bad, too.

08/02/2017 - 11:42am Woodson punt return

UTL1 was cool, but that punt return was the most euphoric Michigan Stadium has ever been for me.  Probably because I was a student at the time and the whole student section was like a big mosh pit with people jumping up and down.

08/01/2017 - 3:44pm When I was in high school

I worked in bottle return at the local grocery store.  This was back in the day when customers turned their bottles and cans in to a cashier, and then the cashier put the bottles and cans in a cart for some high school kid in the back to sort/crush.

We had a lot of filled plastic bags on the floor because either the Coke or the Pepsi rep was there to pick up their returnables.  I reached across the pile to put a bottle in a box, my foot slipped on the plastic, and I landed balls first on the corner of a box.

Stars, cold sweat, everything.  I just kind of sat down and spaced out for about 30 mins -- there was absolutely no one back there checking on me or anything, so it's not like productivity with the bottles and cans was lost.  One of the weirder evenings at the grocery store.

07/30/2017 - 6:12pm It's not hard; if you're an athlete, avoid these things

- Motorcycles

- ATVs

- Pot

- Driving drunk

- Firecrackers/fireworks

- Guitar Hero

they will cost you millions of dollars

07/26/2017 - 10:37pm Great shot Jozy

that's exactly how you do that

07/20/2017 - 11:02am I've only watched a few

Metropolis -- the shift change scene is pretty cool

Cabinet of Dr. Caligari -- CRAZY ENDING OMG

07/19/2017 - 10:20pm heel straight to the nutsack

no faking on that one

07/19/2017 - 10:11pm Just need to know Polish

straight up Polish pronunciation of those letters.  The "ch" should actually be a little more harsh of an H sound (like the ch in "loch"), but Lehigh is not bad.

07/19/2017 - 9:32pm wtf linesman

nowhere near offside

07/13/2017 - 4:36pm Lichaj is straight up Polish with Polish pronunciation

i --> long e

ch --> like scottish "loch" -- a harsh "h" sound

a --> like "open up and say AHH" at the doctor's

j --> soft j = y

07/12/2017 - 10:38pm Well this game just got out of hand

defense optional for both sides

07/12/2017 - 10:28pm Oh come on Guzan

wake the hell up out there

07/08/2017 - 6:09pm Saw the 2006 OSU game on BTN a couple days ago

I'd forgotten how bad the Shawn Crable call was

07/08/2017 - 9:43am Advanced metrics have no clue what to do with this team

When you lose that much from the previous season, it's clearly going to be replaced by something, but how good that something is going to be is anyone's guess.  They don't have advanced metrics for guys that haven't played yet.

07/08/2017 - 9:15am Get everything in order at work and just die

I'm not much for sentimentality

07/07/2017 - 1:28pm So maybe 2 teams have a chance of winning a title

the other 28 teams (93.3% of the league) might as well not exist.  Even the most lopsided European soccer leagues have more parity than that.

07/06/2017 - 6:11pm I wonder about Cabrera this year

I'm not going to dig up photo proof, and it looks like complete tinfoil hat conspiracy on my part, but the dude looks skinnier to me this year.  Worst season since his rookie year.

07/01/2017 - 8:23pm Guzan had some comicly poor footwork on the Ghana goal

took like 20 steps to go 4 feet and the ball ends up a half-foot out of reach.

Did stop a PK, though

06/28/2017 - 11:06am Everyone's going to have different opinions on this one

Personally, I think the kid should be gone regardless of the deferment.  Every time we have a crime thread someone always says "what 20-year-old didn't do ___"  I must be the only kid that didn't commit a felony growing up.

06/12/2017 - 12:45pm The next Najee Harris to string us along for 2 years

I'll start giving a shit on February 6, 2019

06/04/2017 - 3:56pm One of the worst contracts in baseball history, really

Currently 16% of the Angels payroll for .708 OPS and he's signed through 2021.  Imagine if LA had Cabrera instead, especially in 2014-2015.  The window for success is tiny, and he pretty much sank the team.

05/29/2017 - 12:20am Disregarding the entertainment aspect

The Dixon crash is evidence of some incredible engineering by the brightest safety engineers in the world.  He had no business surviving that crash and just casually walked away.  That sort of technology doesn't just confine itself to the racing word; it trickles into normal cars as well.  For me personally, when a guy walks away from a 200+ mph crash, it gives me some confidence that I can walk away from a 50 mph one.

05/19/2017 - 3:51pm One of those desperate U-M finals week meals

No time to go to the store.  Had Ramen.  Had hot dogs.  No hot dog buns.  So I cut up a microwaved non-kosher hot dog into pork Ramen (they're both pork, right?).  That was a horrible mistake.  I had two spoonfuls and thought it was better for my health if I starved.

That one is closely followed by some kind of acorn squash rice casserole that my vegan friend made.  Like the casserole went in the left over husk of the acorn squash.  I hate all squash but ate it anyway in the vain hope that previous squash meals were just not prepared as well as this meal was.  No, it turns out all squash is indeed terrible.

05/16/2017 - 1:41pm I've gone over this before on this site and gotten flak for it

- Changing lanes at the last second to take the empty lane at a red light when you're the slowest motherfucker on the road

- Taking the right lane at a red light when you're going straight, preventing anyone from turning right on red

- Pickup trucks in general.  I've gotten road raged by them more than any other type of vehicle and I just don't trust the people that drive them

- People that pull up next to me at a red when their lane is going to merge after the light.  Unless you absolutely slam on it with a Mustang, you're not going to beat me to that merge.

-  People that use the Michigan-U loop-a-round that's closest to the light, looping into stopped traffic and just expecting you to let them in.  Use the next loop-a-round 200 ft further down and you won't have to 100% rely on someone else to let you in.

- People that creep up to a 4-way stop and think they've won the tie even though THEY NEVER STOPPED.

- Doesn't really affect me much, but I always find it comical how stupid people are when they try to leave a corner gas station.  Why are you turning left into stopped traffic when you could go out the other side and turn left at the light?  I actually saw someone turn left across 5 lanes of traffic to make a right at the light, when they could have just made a right out of the other side of the gas station and gone straight.

05/10/2017 - 4:39pm Looks like a dangerous intersection

I've google-mapped the area where the accident occured ("near Sherman Hill and Tuttle"), and based on the photos that are out there, it's hard to say what exactly happened.  It looks like there's a side street (Trolley Bed Road) that intersects the main road at a sharp angle, and it's possible the other guy pulled out in front of her.  It's not easy to see the oncoming traffic coming around the bend on Sherman Hill.  So "rear ended" might not be "he was stopped and she just hit him."  People are quick to blame her in the accident.  Awful wreck and the cars were totally demolished.

05/06/2017 - 2:40pm NBC needs more coverage

the coverage-to-event time ratio is incredible -- 4.75 hours for a 2 min race

05/04/2017 - 7:55pm Dan Carlin -- Hardcore History

the WW1 podcast is free on Youtube.  It's six parts, about 15 hours total I think.  I'm not even a big history buff, but it was pretty interesting.  Took a while to get through the whole thing, but it was worth it.

04/27/2017 - 8:38pm That's immediately what I said

sad day

04/26/2017 - 10:04pm Megacorps give you five minutes to pack your box

before security walks you out.  That's just how it goes.

04/25/2017 - 10:35am Defensive players shouldn't be able to cut an OL

Technically not a dirty play (it's legal), but I don't think a pulling OL expects to be hit below the waist.

04/20/2017 - 1:07pm Spartan Stadium was shockingly bad last year

I'd heard it was bad, but wow.  Concourse is super narrow, concessions look like a bunch of individual lemonade stands, troughs in the bathrooms, the winding ramp to the upper deck that takes forever, the 20,000 coats of peeled paint everywhere.  That place just needs to be blown up and rebuilt.

04/15/2017 - 1:38pm Offense wears blue, defense wears white

for both teams.  They switched to the Brandon Peters team after Speight took the sack on 4th down.

04/15/2017 - 1:34pm Louis Grodman

04/15/2017 - 1:25pm Harbaugh with a bullhorn

haha I wish I was there

04/15/2017 - 1:17pm Watch, the 3pm replay will just be the intro 40 times

what a clusterfuck

04/15/2017 - 1:12pm Was wondering who that was

thanks for the update

04/15/2017 - 1:10pm Haha Marcus Ray

I forgot you were going to tease me back?  WTF is going on?

04/15/2017 - 1:05pm Someone plugged in the btn2go live stream

here we go!

04/11/2017 - 12:33pm Yost definitely was a shock to the system

the first time I went to a game.  As an angsty sophomore getting crushed by engineering, it was the outlet I desperately needed.  It's hard for me to imagine a modern American sport that so closely mimiced gladiatorial Rome with venom-filled bloodlust from the fans.  It was amazing to see opposing parents first experience the lion's den/snake pit of Yost after years of watching their son play calm, mind-mannered games.  They always fought back when their kid was a freshman.  They never fought back after that.
